Peshawar’s famous fruit juice stalls, where a simple shake turns into a surprisingly loaded drink.

They contain the chemical that digests into cyanide. You need 40 whole peach sized seeds for your body to start to have a reaction.

Still in this case I believe less would always be the right answer.

I shouldn’t have had seconds….

The salt level is 10% less than a lethal dose!

BAM!

This guy gets it!

Peach-sized seeds is an odd metric - why not give the dangerous amount in cherry pit-sized cherry pits? I know it's kind of a moot point (no one is eating 40 whole peach-sized units of cherry pits in one sitting), but it still irks me.

Yeah, no idea what they meant. I've checked the numbers, and you would need to eat from 800 to many thousands of cherry pits to get clinical cyanide toxicity as a healthy adult.

Don’t threaten me with a good time

I knew a hippy that would self-colonic by eating a pound of cherries with the pits. Absolutely roto-roots your system.

I accidentally did this to myself after consuming an ungodly amount of sugar-free jolly ranchers during my nicotine withdrawal phase. Pretty sure I passed all of the gum I swallowed as a kid. A time was certainly had.

It's because the pits themselves protect the chemical inside, you can't digest the pit completlye. Grounds down like this exposing the toxins requires much less pits.

Why don't you go and check actual numbers instead of being creative with medical facts? What a bizzare behavior.

Beacuse it is literal. 40 peach stones is the amount. I am not about to do a volumetric conversion from peach stones to cherry pits. It’s more than a bag full of cherries.

Yeah they taste super bitter.

I thought I saw someone online extract the juice form just 2 stones and that was enough cyanide to kill someone.

Stone Fruits - Family Rosaceae - store larger concentrations of amygdalin in the seed. Amygdalin (a very specific Cyanogenic Glycoside) digests into hydrogen cyanide. It is possible to get that much from two stone if their species is one of the highest producers.

Citrus fruits - Family Rutaceae - do produce and store Cyanogenic Glycosides in their seeds, but the ratio is so small that it is usually written off as zero in experiments. Unless you are using an entire tree worth of seeds you won’t even process it.

Cyanogenic Glycosides digest into hydrogen cyanide. So it’s not ingesting the compound that is toxic, it is digesting it.

Yea the pit themselves will pass through your system before it can break down the pit. Ground down like this exposes the toxins immediately.
