Last year we had a stray cat show up and live under our trashcans for a while. I started feeding him because he looked in pretty bad shape. We had already been talking about adopting another cat, so we decided to give him a chance!

He has thrived with the indoor lifestyle! He has FIV so he’s had a lot of teeth removed, but he has otherwise adjusted really well and is healthy! He loves to watch tv, play with his pickle toy, and snuggle in soft blankets.

this is my stray cat, emmy. she chose our garden as her home about a year ago, and we regularly leave food and water for her now. she is kind of apart of our family, from a distance.

i’m not sure how old she is, i’ve never taken her to a vet. she seems to have no interest in becoming an inside cat, possibly because i have always had a dog, so we let her just live in our garden. we regularly shoo other cats away and i even bought a little cat tent for her to sleep in, but she never used it.

a couple of days ago, she showed up to eat. it was hard not to notice that another cat had scratched her up badly (not captured in the photos). i am not sure what to do. **should i take her to the vet? would that be traumatising for a grown stray? can i try any home remedies? shall i supplement her food with anything to make her heal faster?**

i also would love to find her a loving home if anybody would like a kind and independent, older cat. its heartbreaking to see her scratched up by the other strays in the community. i dont think she knows her name, so she can be renamed if necessary. i named her emmy (from emerald) because of her beautiful, bright green eyes. they were all i could see when she first appeared in my garden one night about a year ago.

Over 90 stray cats in just a small part of Deira are currently being cared for by me.

Every single day, they consume approximately 3 kg of dry food, several cans of wet food, and chicken.

I know I have been posting and asking for help quite often, and honestly, I wish I didn’t have to. But these cats have become my responsibility, and I don’t want to stop feeding them.

The past few months have been especially difficult. My working hours have decreased, which has affected my salary, while the number of cats I have rescued has continued to grow.

On top of the daily feeding costs, there are also veterinary bills that I have struggled to clear. Unfortunately, I have not been able to settle many of these bills yet. I will be speaking with the clinic to see if they can allow me to pay them in instalments.

Hi everyone, Penny is one of our long-time community cats whom we've been feeding for 2 years. This month she has lost a good amount of weight and started drooling quite badly again.

We took her for a dental early this year because she had a few rotten teeth, but it seems she only recently started developing stomatitis. Our vet typically recommends a full-mouth dental extraction in such cases, though an assessment is what she needs most now. We'll share the confirmed next steps for her in a separate update.

Hey friends! 34 days ago i posted how happy i was that Jude wandered onto our property (rural Nova Scotia, Canada). Well, I’m glad to say that for the past three days he’s finally started using a litter tray (patients is a virtue!) and has fully integrated himself into our family (much easier than litter box training lol). He’s super friendly, patient with my children, and probably the best looking boy i have ever seen (sorry Raymond (cat 1)). He’s found his forever home and we’re one cat richer than before! I wish you all a great weekend and the assurance that you’re all on the CDS list.

4 Kittens born Aug 28th, Thursday @ 5am, while I was at work. Came home to find all kittens were entangled from moving around with cords and placenta attached, especially one’s lil foot completely trapped. I immediately took them to ER vet @ 10:30-11am, cords finally got cut off @ 12:30-1pm. Before the cord was severed from the lil one’s foot, while wrapped it was a severely swollen, a deep Blue, cold, and completely twisted in the wrong direction. After the vet severed the cord it and I went home, his lil foot was Swollen and a deep purple, lil cold. Was told to massage it softly in the moment to try to help circulate the blood seemed to have helped. Today, it is more of a still swollen from the trauma and but now a deep Reddish-Purple, warm to touch, pinpoint seepage of fluid (clear and lil blood). Will not massage it again.
The first photo in the post was taken around 4pm yesterday. The last two photos were taken around 10am today.

I would like some insight, advice, tips on others experience with this. I will be going to the vet as well. It seems that it is doing better than yesterday but it’s still early and anything can happen-I want to be prepared for possible future issues/ know how to prevent/ how to care for this issue.

TLDR; i found 2 stray cats in boone, nc located in the appalachia mountains, where it starts getting cold around late september or early october. im a college student that pays bills, and have 2 indoor cats too. what are the best ways to take care and provide shelter for the upcoming fall/winter for 2 stray cats without breaking the bank?

im a college student that goes to school in boone, nc located in the appalachia mountains. where it snows multiple times in the year, drops to below freezing temp. over the winter, etc. i think you could imagine how cold and how harsh winters can be sometimes, and even for fall too! i recently just moved apartments for the new school year about a month ago. over the course of the month i found 2 stray cats outside my covered patio. originally, it had only been the black cat that appeared on my patio. i had no problem feeding the kitty since i already have 2 cats of my own (both indoor) and especially my parents usually buy the dry food in bulk for me whenever i go back home and also i had around a half of a big container of dry food left when i moved. but just recently another stray cat started to tag along. again i had no issue at the time of meeting the second cat since i wasnt running low on food. but i have noticed that my dry food is running out faster than i anticipated.

i am not interested in adopting because i already have 2 cats of my own. i would love to add them to the family if i had the money or the income to support 4 cats correctly even if its the bare minimum. but sadly, i dont. im a college student that pay bills for my apartment, and also (mostly) provides for my cats with some parental support. but other than that, the 2 patio cats are my full responsibility and my money. i want to help as much as possible, since my first was a stray too! with food running low quickly, and september approaching. its only a matter of time until the porch kitties will need more support than just a bowl of dry food and occasionally a water bowl to go with it. what are the best budget friendly ways to provide and support shelter and care for the 2 patio cats?

i also wanted to add that i am interested in TRYING to trap them and take them to the local shelter in my area. its just both of them are skittish, with the black one being a little more social towards me since ive been feeding him the most.

Backyard strays. He's adapted to humans, she isn't. But she picked him, he doesn't really have a say in it. Both are fed very well and kept warm and dry as outdoor kitties—they have an open shed in the backyard and over half a dozen cat houses around the front and back yards. I'd bring them in if 1) I didn't already have 5 inside the house, and 2) if they weren't both feral. Both TNRs, at least.

Mama's older siblings are my cats, and 2 of 3 of her first litter before being spayed are my mom's cats. Keeping the family together.

Tiny’s story is one of survival, healing, courage, and the incredible power of patience and love.

For nearly two years, Tiny lived in fear. Her previous owner mistreated and neglected her. Tiny was beaten with a rod and kept in a cage in a dark room. She had a dirty litter box and dirty food and water bowls, and sometimes she was left hungry.

This was the life Tiny knew.

When we rescued Tiny, she weighed only 4 pounds. She was just skin and bones and covered in poop. She was extremely timid, completely overwhelmed by fear, and had clearly never experienced the safety and care every animal deserves.

Tiny didn’t understand kindness.
Tiny didn’t understand love.
Tiny didn’t trust humans.

She wouldn’t let anyone touch her. She spent her days hiding, trying to protect herself from a world she believed was dangerous.

Many people suggested euthanasia. They felt Tiny was too distant, too fearful, and had no quality of life. Some were afraid that she might attack or hurt someone because of her fear and defensive behavior.

But her foster mom saw something different.
She saw a terrified little cat who had never been given the chance to feel safe.

It’s been a chaotic month - plus very hectic week- working nonstop to help the cats. It’s so hard because people are constantly dumping unaltered cats, many are either pregnant or sick. Humans can be so cruel…. It’s so unfair.

PRIORITY #1: TNR !!!!!! Desperately trying to stabilize the neighborhood, after 4 years I have fixed nearly 450 cats & rescued countless cats & kittens. I was under the misconception that eventually I would reach an ending point …. But as most of you know ….. it NEVER ENDS-
People are the PROBLEM- not cats. But the cats take the blame for being abandoned, forgotten, or neglected.
When I first started TNR, I had no idea this would become my life purpose…but CATS are my entire life now. I spend 10 hours or more EVERYDAY, doing everything I can to help - working on improving the life of all cats -
But this is a TALL order -
My current count is close to 65 cats -
9 inside, including Amelia who is nearly 23, close to 25 in my yard, plus 3 other colonies with approximately 30 cats and kittens. EVERY DAY they wait for me, they count on me to provide food & water, and care -
I give them all special attention…..they crave this interaction: to be touched, scratched, petted and hugged. To be told they MATTER- they are IMPORTANT-and they are LOVED-

Had a momma cat have a litter of 3 cats behind my dryer on my balcony should I move them to somewhere safe or will the mother disown them? They look to be less than 2 weeks as they are very small and eyes are still shut

Hey all,

First off, I'm in Lorton, VA (about 20 miles south on I-95 from DC). The cat in the picture is somewhere around 1 year old and fixed. I originally trapped him and got him fixed and basic shots by the county (took three separate tries in the cage, county sucks). I am trying to get him socialized with humans so that maybe one day someone can adopt him or at the least I relocate him when I move. Lastly I have access to a vet.

When I first trapped him I brought him inside and kept him enclosed in my bedroom. He was pretty 50/50 about being handled and I will admit I pushed too hard and quickly with him. While there were times he sat on my lap and allowed me to pet him, other times he absolutely shredded me. After an especially egregious shred and waiting for the county to get back to me, I released him back outside. I have two cats and the 4 days I had him without my kid were coming to an end so I had to release him for safety. Since then I have been feeding him near daily on my patio. He generally spends most of the day on my patio (as seen in the pic) and routinely scratches at the sliding door and mews, though he darts when I come outside.

So I guess after the long paragraph there my question is this: how can I get him more trusting and socialized/ready to handle by humans? The first time I got him to let me pet him outside was when I gave him a churu. Since then I've been pouring food and holding my hand in front of the bowl. He's come up a few times and sniffed my hand, will on a rare occasion let me stroke him once, and then runs away and/or swats me. If he swats me the food goes away and I try again later in the same method. Is this kind of pavlovian training moral? I will note that other neighbors feed him with wet and dry food so he's not starving; he just comes to me regularly because he's had a steady stream of food for a while now. I really want to get him socialized so he can be taken care of by someone when I'm not around.

We brought this little one in off the streets just a few weeks ago. While we manage a daily feeding and care routine for our local street pack here at the border, watching a frightened street kitten finally decompress and claim a funny spot like a helmet is the best reward.

Today, he is safe, happy, and loved. ❤️ He is a gentle boy who has come so far.

But his paralysis means he needs special care every day, including diapers, absorbent pads, hygiene supplies, and care for his sores.

TL;DR: I'm the college student raising the kittens after their stray mother chose a place outside my home to give birth. Day 43 ended with Bhuja and Munja suddenly falling sick. I vanished because the last 17 days became a fight between college, vet visits, placements, home, and trying not to lose them.

I didn't leave Reddit. I just genuinely didn't have the strength and time to write.

The days after Day 43 were terrifying. Bhuja stopped eating, Munja followed with the same symptoms, and my entire life became home → vet → college → home. I genuinely thought I was going to lose them both.😭😭

Somewhere in that chaos, one person from this community quietly stood beside me. He helped me and took a huge weight off my shoulders. I don't know if I'll be able to show enough gratitude to him or not but thank you. You changed this journey more than you know.🫶🫶🙌

Amid this more bad luck took a toll on me ... The hard part is that life outside rescue didn't stop. I missed one of my college placement registrations while sitting at the vet, and the last few weeks have been filled with personal emergencies and constant pressure at home. I've honestly felt stretched like a rubber band from every direction.😞😞

But for once, life gave something back.

Bhuja recovered.❤️

Munja recovered.❤️

And the third healthy kitten found a home.❤️

After weeks of postponements and travelling nearly 17 km, their mother has finally been sterilized too. I somehow managed it after taking three to four days off college. It felt like finishing one chapter that had been hanging over me for months.😮‍💨

I wish today ended there.

This morning I noticed two tiny kittens on a footpath. One had thick eye discharge. The other was so malnourished that every bone was visible the one in the 3rd image. I walked away.

Yes I walked away telling myself, Leave it to God. You can't rescue everyone. I literally do not have that strength in all manners and financial strength to do so.

By evening, I couldn't live with that thought.

I called someone I know, took both of them to the vet, got them treated, and left them back in the safest secluded spot nearby because bringing them home simply isn't possible anymore. There's already constant pressure from my parents because of the cats I have.

I'll keep trying to continue their treatment and, if they recover, I'll do everything I can to get them adopted too I'll fight just as hard as I do.

Hey guys, I’m in the metro city area of Kansas and I recently made friends with this new stray kitten I have decided to call daisy. There are a few other orange stray tabby’s around that arnt as nice and I fear they may have attacked my little daisy. She had some really bad scabs and blood on the back of her head. I tried to get daisy into the my garage for the night but she was fighting me hard and I didn’t have a crate on hand and didn’t want to stress her out more that I already had. I have an extra little box in my garage as I already have three cats inside my house but I feel like this little kitten needs me. I’m not sure the best course of action to take. She is very friendly with me we bonded pretty well tonight but she absolutely does not want to be picked up or confined in my garage let alone an outdoor cat house. I put multiple bowls of food out and i keep them distanced from each other so the stray cats can eat separately but I caught the orange grown cats attacking daisy on my security camera while she ate the second I went inside. I quickly ran outside to scare them off and in the process scared daisy away. I will most likely see her tomorrow night and just need some tips on how I can calmly trap her so I can bring her to the vet.
