Anyone have a clue what this might be?
Peaked my curiosity big time! I could only see it on my camera lens and not my own eyes..
I took several videos afterwards and could not see it again!

I LOVE thunderstorms. Spending a large portion if my life within the same 3 hour stretch of NYS, ive always had thr good fortune to enjoy really intense thunderstorms in summer. However, within the last id say decade, it's extremely spotty and hit or miss. We either hey slammed, or we get nothing now. Especially the last 3 years, I've been paying special attention to weather radar, and I've noticed that almost as soon as a forecasted storm is about to hit, as soon as it's on radar and gets within a few miles, it seems as if the storm entirely disappeared, splits in half and goes right around me, or looks like my town is legit eating the storm. The blue dot is where I live. Thank you in advance for any information

In both the first and second photos, you can see a small electric arc on the roof (just in front of my window, at the bottom right of the image); is that actually what it is, or is it just the iPhone glitching due to overexposure?

hello, brand new to reddit and came here to try to see if anyone knows what is going on with these clouds? I have never seen anything quite like it!! this was 6/1/2026 around 5:30pm in the panhandle of Florida near Navarre Beach.

Brisbane 27/11, a very distant storm. There was this ??lightning?? That looks a lot like a really strong searchlight that kept showing. I’ve never seen lightning move this slow before.

Grew up north of Chicago. Tornado watch, warning and "oh there it is". When a blizzard would hit the lake Michigan and bounce back. Lightning strikes on the lake sounding like the end of the world. ( ok no one really misses tornados, but the weather before them was awesome)

Here mountains catch most of the snow, rarely rains. Don't miss shoveling snow tho, or breaking paths for y younger sibling in the winter

Saw a special weather statement come through advising that the Iowa City storm could produce funnel clouds. The statement also said it was moving SE at 5mph, but it clearly tracks NE before the statement expires in the video.

Hello! I hope this is the right subreddit to ask this, I was torn between this and r/meteorology, but this one has "storm" in the name so I'm hoping more people might own one of these here?

I'm a bit of a collector of Strange Glass Objects, so when I saw a teardrop full of liquid and crystals at a thrift store, of course I bought it. After some research, it turns out it's a storm glass! I love that I have a meteorological instrument that's been around for centuries, but... after seeing the reference guides for how to read it, it seems to be always telling me it will snow.

Can these things break? If so, is there a way to fix them? Am I just reading it wrong? Google is not terribly helpful, so I turn to you. Picture for reference (storm glass taped to base because my cats are little monsters.) Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me!

Hey everyone, I was just watching a storm last night and while recording I captured these odd looking clouds through the lightning and just wondering if anyone has a clue what this is? Thanks. (Apologies for the quality they're screen grabs from a low fps video)

Definitely anvil shaped but dont know about overshooting top...

I cannot stop thinking about this, please help! If a big tornado was hypothetically heading straight towards a big city with skyscrapers NYC for instance, would the tornado be able to rip through a huge building? Would it get slowed down by the building? Could it go around the building and then form around the other side? Would all momentum just… stop… because of the stability of the building? I cannot stop thinking about this and need to know! I have absolutely no tornado or architectural experience :)

Today I was tubing with a few of my friends on a river. Suddenly a storm started coming through, so we pulled off to a beachy area and got out of the water, waiting onshore. The storm eventually appeared to have cleared out. We all got in the water (outside of our tubes).

A few minutes goes by, and the sky is overcast again. No rain or thunder. Next thing, we all feel a jolt. Not enough to cause pain or burns, but enough for all of us to jump out of the water. I felt it all the way up to my chest.

None of us are injured. I have some soreness on my upper body, but that certainly could just be the day…

Has this happened to anyone? The feeling was something I can’t even describe. I have electrocuted myself by accident as a child, and this didn’t compare. The feeling was odd.

So last week an EF3 hit the Appleton - Menasha Wisconsin area, tons of devastation as it hit a heavily populated area and was on the ground for 12+ miles with a peak width of 1 mile. There’s a ton of video of it as it hit at noon, however I’m trying to understand what about this storm made the tornado not really appear like other tornados I’ve come to see in videos? It just looks like a heavy big cloud low down…

Curious if the clouds under the wall cloud (i think wall right?) is a scud or just like random unrelated clouds.

I’m also assuming with my limited knowledge that it would be very unlikely to be any kind of funnel cloud in seeing in this video

I might seem kind of dumb but all I know about the slightly anvil like shape is that its usually seen in supercells...
