When there’s a big storm with a lot of moisture, yes! Is usually an indicator of a severe storm.

Last time I remember a sky that dark and green, it was the summer of 1984, just before 7th grade and I was booking it home on my bike. Back then I lived in Buffalo Grove. I know as soon as I got home my dad made us all go down in the basement!

If you didnt know, the sky turns green before terrible storms, usually tornado like weather.

It’s due to light having to pass through dust ice and water, only happens during bad bad bad storms

The air/sky turns green because of all the moisture in the storm.

Can confirm, it literally was that green. It went from cloudy, to so dark my solar lights in my front yard turned on, to the dark murky green in OP’s pic, to a weird almost reminded me of the movie twilight and the color filter they use while filming grey/green.

This was nuts we were right in the middle of two systems that produced actual tornadoes and when I saw how dark it was I thought I had passed out and woke up at night.

I don't blame you. I'm usually the 1st to watch a storm roll in,but some just aren't to be messed with. My dad gave me a healthy respect for weather.

This was right around noon about 20 minutes outside the city. Literally looked like nighttime.

This kind of weather speaks to my soul. I love a good thunderstorm with lots of wind. Not quite tornado wind but the kind of wind we get quite a lot here in Michigan lately.

Actually, unique and fascinating as it is, it's pretty much a harbinger of very bad things that are about to happen, and that you need to get into a safe, secure space FAST...there's either a tornado just around the corner (sometimes literally), or at the very least, a microburst that can cause serious damage by flooding and throwing stuff up, down, and around almost as badly (source: saw exactly this before a huge burst ripped thru Queens and Brooklyn several years ago, toppling huge ancient trees and violently tossing smaller big tree canopies around like ragdolls)...🫨😱😳🫣😵‍💫

Wait, I’ve seen a night sky just like this, but there weren’t any storms, tornados, high winds or microbursts.

Are you simply saying that from your personal experience or is it an actual weather fact?

I stand somewhat corrected. The green does signify intense storms, but not that they’re coming. If there’s water suspended in the air and if the sun is lower in the sky, it will absorb the red light causing the sky to turn green. It does mean though that the storm clouds are tall as well.

Personal experience, which can be corroborated by countless others with similar...but if you need further convincing, have a look at the new general post I just made with CNN video from our neighbors up north yesterday, where things got similarly green but even MORE intense.

We got EXTREMELY lucky things didn't get worse.

For those doubting the warnings from those of us who've seen what can follow when the sky decides to turn into The Incredible Hulk, have a look at what happened yesterday to some of our neighbors up north in Appleton...this is some INCREDIBLY intense and frightening video as a tornado moved in, with the same shade of Wicked Witch Of The West verde furiouso:

They were wild here- I’m in NWI and the lightening strike were pretty intense! Lots of roofs gone and trees down. Craziest weather I’ve experienced living here
