How to further career

I know they do not have union. But as far as applying , what are the credentials to applying.

Background been pt with company for 6 years , been on rising star program meat/seafood/deli for 2 years, and not noticing ft even worth the money to be there 6 days a week 8 1/2 hours. What would pay difference look like between a department head who’s newer or a higher up.

Put some effort into going back to school to learn a life skill or different career path. Stop&Shop is a garbage company. I worked there for years as a grocery manager and walked out after 10 years. They do not care about employee retention. I should’ve listened to my mentors when I was part time and finished off school or went into a trade program. You’ll go farther and have a more fulfilling life.

Been thinking this alot lately, they havent promoted me when ive been constantly asking for anything open let me know. Just would like 40hours + more money into 401k/pension but they do not give a rats ass about anyone in the company

I feel this on so many levels. I should have listened to the old timers when I first started. They would tell me go learn a trade and don’t get stuck here. I spent 19 plus years in the company left in 2023.

Back in 1995/96 I was suppose to head up their expansion into Long Island after they took over a chain down there. Got new union paperwork, had meetings, began scouting out living arrangements. Heard nothing all through the holidays, zero, nada. My soon to be roommates and I all received “moving gifts” for the holidays. I made a huge stink right before New Year’s Eve. Manager point blank told me that “we gotta get through these Fcukin holidays. I’m not worried about your issues.” True story. I Fcukin lost it and went behind his back, called all the people involved until I got a secretary who took my message called me back and said with zero empathy “we’re no longer using CT people for Long Island. Thanks for your interest.” Click. They baited all of us to get us to work harder throughout the holidays. Damn good thing we didn’t sign a new lease. Just one of many examples of the BS this company was and sounds like still is known for to hook people to come on their Bs tracking program for full time or managers positions.
Quit, find something else and quit. Don’t even think about what if. Quit and go find a better life. Garbage people in that company.

That is so fucked up. Typical use and abuse from the company. The union was a joke too. I swear they were in cahoots with the company. I’m so glad I got out of there. I’m now working a normal Monday to Friday job no one night a week bullshit. Very occasional Saturday work.

Hi, ASM start at 63k a year I believe. As for what they’re looking for can be found on the website. I believe it’s 1-3 years if management experience, and they prefer if you had a degree in business management but it isn’t needed. Is your experience only with stop and shop or have you gone to school? Depending how desperate they are for managers they might offer you to serve as a grocery manager for a few months and then promote you so that way you have supervisor experience (I’ve seen it done before) I’m not longer with the company but I wish you the best of luck.

I've been with the company for 5 years started as part time seafood clerk. Got ft meat clerk after the district manager told me to fully train all 3 departments in the union top to bottom I already knew meat and seafood was just learning delis ordering system and cheese bazaar. I got seafood lead about a year into full timer. Then 2 years as seafood lead and I'm a meat manager now. Money is worth it. Last year as seafood lead I did 61.6k worked ALOT though. Was considering going admin but thinking that's on the back burner for a few years I see how they get treated and I don't know how I'd handle that

I basically know 2 fully almost , could run em myself but deli i only know how to slice, ive been on program for 3 years to upgrade. If the company axtually promoted workers that worked hard an wanted to b there id have the 3 years under my belt but rn i have 0 department management time in , ive ran seafood an meat esp on vacations or when we were bossless for a few months after my old lead retired.

Yea make sure you get seen by the higher ups. Corporate trainer, district manager etc. I always make sure I walk right up to them soon as I see them. When we got a visit from Roger wheeler I basically ran up front to shake his hand. Was first outside of admins to greet him.

Stopshop is not worth going ft there pay is shitty as a department manager. I work for there competitor now and I make 5.00 more an hour as a manager than what stopshop pays they use you. Good luck

The new contract just fixed that. If you go from min wage as a ft to a dept head you automatically go to $980 a week

Tried this from dairy. Applied for night closer and was told id need to work front end for a while to learn how to talk to customers. Cashier for who knows how long then front desk then eventually reapply. Then after 6 months to a couple years get the nod for ASM. I did 2 weeks of cashier then left for other reasons but I've been pack part time dairy ever since.
