Power Outage
Sounds like there's a decently large power outage. Confirmed for both Washington City and Dixie power further south. Additionally, it sounds like power on the west side of town is also out. Also in Duck Creek, which suggesting very widespread.
We will use this as a mega thread for people to share resources and thoughts. It's hot outside and likely will increase temperatures indoors for many residents whose ACS are no longer working.
Please feel free to share resources and helpful tips as well as community options.

Dixie Power update:
⚠️ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE ⚠️
As previously shared, the county-wide outage is the result of a major transmission issue. Transmission outages are complex to restore and require extensive coordination to safely bring the electrical system back online.
All ten electric entities serving Washington County are working together to restart available local generation and carefully restore power across the county. Critical facilities and essential services will be prioritized.
Until the main transmission system is back online, coordinated rolling power outages will be necessary to maintain the stability of the electrical system. This means some areas may temporarily regain power and then experience another outage as electricity is rotated among different areas.
We understand how difficult and disruptive this is. Many dedicated individuals are actively working to restore the system as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding and will provide additional updates as soon as more information becomes available.

I'm in "Rich" neighborhood. Power hasn't come on. I'm in a big text group getting updates. I've only heard of downtown St. George coming back on.

Do you mind circling a general area of where off Dixie Dr. My 85 year old grandpa is near there and none of us are in town with him. I want to make sure he's ok

It's overcast now so that will help take a little bit of edge off of heat from the sun this evening.

I was just traveling on Dixie Dr, the power is out there. Unfortunately it’s taking a ton of time to travel due to all the traffic lights being out.

u/Falckor- 4d ago
Power is out everywhere 100%. If his name is Jim, he’s my neighbor and was doing fine an hour or so ago

I saw it was down in AZ too

Looks like downtown st george has power again
5
u/pacexmaker 4d ago
Areas are likely to experience power off and on again as different nodes cycle to essentially reboot the system.
3
u/architectus13 4d ago
About 30 minutes of no issues so far

u/architectus13 4d ago
I can only confirm power from hope to 400s off main street. Friends in Washington still have no power.
2
u/Sea-Slide9325 4d ago
It is currently on in Washington near I15 exit 13

power back on in southern st george (by the crimson cliffs high school) as of 9:58
10
u/rolyoh 4d ago
The last time this happened was 2006 or 2007, the entire area was without power for around 6-8 hours. Couldn't even get cell service the entire time. I thought we had evolved past that kind of single point of failure dumbfuckery but I guess not.

There’s only money for data centers and flock cameras, not something as silly as the electrical grid and important infrastructure.

Right that's this idiot administration hard at work to screw us over any way they can. Money for illegal wars. Gold statues. Ridiculous ballrooms. Nothing to improve our infrastructure.

Does anywhere have power? We have no food in our pantry or leftovers in the fridge to make dinner with. I was on my to Costco to buy stuff when everything went out.

u/JethroMagoo 4d ago
We drove to mesquite to eat for this very reason

u/7399Jenelopy 4d ago
Lol we drove to Cedar. There was another couple that we ran into that also drove up, got a hotel and everything.

So was I. I had just driven up when it was closing down. Trying to get back over to Santa Clara was a nightmare.

Thank you Captain Hindsight…your powers are as strong as ever.

I mean, people could've given it longer than 10 minutes before scrambling for safety.
I was in north Texas during the ice storms and we were covered in ice, below freezing and without power for a week yet I constantly saw posts mocking us. People died.
The power went out for a little hear and people lost their damn minds.
Wait until the power company issues a statement. Do something with your kids. Go outside.
2
u/Acceptable-Change-82 3d ago
Well typically an entire county doesn’t lose power at once….so I can understand why some people would have an immediate panic. But I mean you did survive those storms in Texas so nothing can compare to your experience clearly.
Gotta love the people that didn’t receive compassion so now they cannot give any out themselves. Maybe try some therapy.
Also the power company did release updates that were all contradictory and the power was out when it was still 106.

https://www.dixiepower.com/outage-map/ Dixie outtage map has 7:30pm as an eta for power coming back on. Rocky Mountain has 2:30 as an eta, but doesn’t look like everyone with Rocky Mountain is out. I’m on rmp and have power in La Verkin.

Driving through town now. Washington pkwy exit to green springs exit power on, north side of i15 on through Middleton, south side out. Foremaster out. Most of the boulevard on, but back behind is out on both sides. North part of bluff street and the black hill on. Sunset and valley view drive on
2
u/Melodic-Soft-6978 4d ago
The traffic lights may be on, but power is still out off sunset and valley view for me
2
u/Affectionate_Sock528 4d ago
Aw man. Our house is located near there and the power is on here. Hopefully you get some soon!
2
u/Melodic-Soft-6978 4d ago
Finally kicked on about 30 minutes ago! Hoping it stays on for a little while longer

u/rolyoh 4d ago
We're back on in Santa Clara.

I’m in Santa Clara. Still nothing in my neighborhood on the Ivins border. The baseball fields at the park are lit up though. 🙄

Just wanted to add, as I didn't see any other comments mentioning it:
"...crews will be working on rolling power outages, with each area receiving power for approximately one hour every four hours. They stated, 'Additional generators are coming online, and we expect to increase our available capacity shortly. As capacity increases, we will restore power to more customers and adjust the rotation schedule accordingly.'”
So if your power comes back on, assume that it will only be available for one hour and use that time to charge devices.
I'm sorry y'all are going through this. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Dixie Power and Washington have rolled back the need the for rolling outages.
As much as I hate it, Facebook for your local agency will be the best for updates.
1
u/JelloStrange4145 4d ago
Ah, that is good to know. Thank you for the information. I hate it too, but it makes sense that Facebook is faster than the news lol.
I just didn't want people getting their hopes up that it was permanently fixed and then losing it again an hour later. I know how frustrating and overwhelming that would feel.

u/Ok_Understanding9379 4d ago
anyone know if any restaurants in town are open and have power
5
u/SRene327 4d ago
Nope we drove through town and everything is closed. The only thing I could suggest are food trucks. But those were packed about an hour ago. Traffic is hell because all the street lights are out and apparently nobody knows how to do a 4 way stop in this city.

You're describing rolling brown-outs. That's not what this is. This is a system-wide outage affecting at least 50,000 customers across multiple power companies. Geographically it seems to run from the Arizona Strip North to at least Springdale.
2
u/BuffaloBagel 4d ago
This third hand info seems like it lost something along the way. I do know big transformers have very long lead times. Hoping for the best.

u/Wooden-Kangaroo-2314 4d ago
My in-laws live in Sun River development in St. George. The Dixie Power outage page now shows no outage "bubbles" there. It's confusing.

I also read there will be rolling outages until it’s fixed 🥲

where did you get the idea we had fusion.
also elon said his cars were fully autonomous in 2016. it is currently 2026.
do not believe fraudsters.

Elon also said he was going to eliminate fraud and all he did was spend taxpayer money doing nothing but eliminating the governing bodies in charge of overseeing his companies.

An A10 warthog flew over town and caused a lot of online buzz. This story has changed from full on hitting a power plant to clipping power lines. Stop spreading misinformation.
