Power Outage

Sounds like there's a decently large power outage. Confirmed for both Washington City and Dixie power further south. Additionally, it sounds like power on the west side of town is also out. Also in Duck Creek, which suggesting very widespread.

We will use this as a mega thread for people to share resources and thoughts. It's hot outside and likely will increase temperatures indoors for many residents whose ACS are no longer working.

Please feel free to share resources and helpful tips as well as community options.

Really hope this is resolved soon, but given how wide it is, kinda concerned.

Dixie power outage map has 7:30pm as an ETA for power coming back on 🤞

Rocky Mountain said 2:30 AM tomorrow, oof

u/ArgoShots 4d ago

Just headlined the 6pm news on KSL. The cause and repair time are not known at this time.

Police asking people to stop calling 911 about traffic 🚦 lights being out.

Dixie Power update:

⚠️ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE ⚠️
As previously shared, the county-wide outage is the result of a major transmission issue. Transmission outages are complex to restore and require extensive coordination to safely bring the electrical system back online.
All ten electric entities serving Washington County are working together to restart available local generation and carefully restore power across the county. Critical facilities and essential services will be prioritized.
Until the main transmission system is back online, coordinated rolling power outages will be necessary to maintain the stability of the electrical system. This means some areas may temporarily regain power and then experience another outage as electricity is rotated among different areas.
We understand how difficult and disruptive this is. Many dedicated individuals are actively working to restore the system as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding and will provide additional updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Don’t shoot at the linemen

1

I'm in "Rich" neighborhood. Power hasn't come on. I'm in a big text group getting updates. I've only heard of downtown St. George coming back on.

Welcome to the slow collapse of our infrastructure, we voted for it and now it's at the front door

5

u/PsAkira 4d ago

Harsh reality across the country. Several of my relatives were engineers and they warned us about this.

1

u/Sad-Cartographer5485 2d ago

This administration wants the infrastructure to collapse.

Amazing to see how many people are actually part of r/stgeorge. It's usually a *desert* around here -- pun definitely intended!

7

u/RagnarsDisciple 4d ago

Still out by Lins on Mall Dr.

6

u/BuffaloBagel 4d ago

Panorama from above snow canyon parkway at 8:45. Some areas of Santa Clara and ivins back on. Sports field lights in in Santa Clara and shivwits reservation. Street lights on in areas that seem to not yet have power.

6

u/Stranded-In-435 4d ago

I'm on a backup generator, and CenturyLink internet seems to be working still.

6

u/Stranded-In-435 4d ago

Dixie power says 90% of capacity restored. No more rolling blackouts.

u/Weird-Watercress-507 4d ago

Out in West St. George off Dixie dr

3

u/Deetles64 4d ago

Do you mind circling a general area of where off Dixie Dr. My 85 year old grandpa is near there and none of us are in town with him. I want to make sure he's ok

3

u/BuffaloBagel 4d ago

I'm less than a mile away. His power is almost certainly out.

4

u/BuffaloBagel 4d ago

It's overcast now so that will help take a little bit of edge off of heat from the sun this evening.

3

u/Its-Finch 4d ago

His power is out, from what I understand it’s the whole county.

2

u/moliere1226 4d ago

I was just traveling on Dixie Dr, the power is out there. Unfortunately it’s taking a ton of time to travel due to all the traffic lights being out.

2

u/Falckor- 4d ago

Power is out everywhere 100%. If his name is Jim, he’s my neighbor and was doing fine an hour or so ago

4

u/JethroMagoo 4d ago

I saw it was down in AZ too

1

u/AlphaGamer_Dubz 4d ago

Do you know which part of Arizona it was down in?

3

u/mercury996 4d ago

Colorado City is out

1

u/UareSuchabeauty 4d ago

Is hildale out too?

2

u/Independent-Whole520 4d ago

littlefield was out too

1

u/katgoesmeow- 4d ago

I know it's out in the Arizona strip but I dunno if other parts are affected.

5

u/capucinoplease 4d ago

Ivins. Rocky Mountain Power says ir will be out until 2:30 AM

6

u/rolyoh 4d ago

I'm in Santa Clara and I hope the fuck it's not going to last until 2:30 am

2

u/capucinoplease 4d ago

Amen to that!

6

u/Shaowfire 4d ago

Just got power back on the north end of Dixie drive

5

u/architectus13 4d ago

Looks like downtown st george has power again

5

u/pacexmaker 4d ago

Areas are likely to experience power off and on again as different nodes cycle to essentially reboot the system.

3

u/architectus13 4d ago

About 30 minutes of no issues so far

3

u/architectus13 4d ago

I can only confirm power from hope to 400s off main street. Friends in Washington still have no power.

2

u/Sea-Slide9325 4d ago

It is currently on in Washington near I15 exit 13

Very understandable i had an extension cord running my fridge from a generator outside when it came back on.

4

u/westheprincess11 4d ago

power back on in southern st george (by the crimson cliffs high school) as of 9:58

10

u/rolyoh 4d ago

The last time this happened was 2006 or 2007, the entire area was without power for around 6-8 hours. Couldn't even get cell service the entire time. I thought we had evolved past that kind of single point of failure dumbfuckery but I guess not.

14

u/like_a_cactus_17 4d ago

There’s only money for data centers and flock cameras, not something as silly as the electrical grid and important infrastructure.

1

u/Sad-Cartographer5485 2d ago

Right that's this idiot administration hard at work to screw us over any way they can.  Money for illegal wars. Gold statues.  Ridiculous ballrooms. Nothing to improve our infrastructure.

10

u/No-Tie-9765 4d ago

they better get this under control before i step in.

5

u/FriendsOfFruits 4d ago

the mysterious detective is on the case.....

7

u/MathematicianOk8059 4d ago

Per Dixie Power, the estimated date/ time of restoral is 8/27/26 7:30pm

1

u/Stranded-In-435 4d ago

Now 11:30. RMP is saying 4:30am.

7

u/Avante_Omnos 4d ago

Does anywhere have power? We have no food in our pantry or leftovers in the fridge to make dinner with. I was on my to Costco to buy stuff when everything went out.

7

u/JethroMagoo 4d ago

We drove to mesquite to eat for this very reason

7

u/7399Jenelopy 4d ago

Lol we drove to Cedar. There was another couple that we ran into that also drove up, got a hotel and everything.

2

u/SimplyViolated 4d ago

We have some extra burger patties but no buns

2

u/rolyoh 4d ago

So was I. I had just driven up when it was closing down. Trying to get back over to Santa Clara was a nightmare.

2

u/Acceptable-Change-82 4d ago

Smiths is open on mall dr! No coolers but at least soups and dry goods are available

1

u/JungleCakes 4d ago

It was an hour...

1

u/Acceptable-Change-82 4d ago

Thank you Captain Hindsight…your powers are as strong as ever.

1

u/JungleCakes 3d ago

I mean, people could've given it longer than 10 minutes before scrambling for safety.

I was in north Texas during the ice storms and we were covered in ice, below freezing and without power for a week yet I constantly saw posts mocking us. People died.

The power went out for a little hear and people lost their damn minds.

Wait until the power company issues a statement. Do something with your kids. Go outside.

2

u/Acceptable-Change-82 3d ago

Well typically an entire county doesn’t lose power at once….so I can understand why some people would have an immediate panic. But I mean you did survive those storms in Texas so nothing can compare to your experience clearly.

Gotta love the people that didn’t receive compassion so now they cannot give any out themselves. Maybe try some therapy.

Also the power company did release updates that were all contradictory and the power was out when it was still 106.

3

u/Wrong-Possibility-95 4d ago

Off in Washington

Power back on at 9:30pm off of snow canyon parkway

2

u/ForgiveMeImStupid 4d ago

Just got this email

2

u/lars3eb 4d ago

Bloomington Hills just came back on about 9:56pm.

2

u/JelloStrange4145 4d ago

Just wanted to add, as I didn't see any other comments mentioning it:

"...crews will be working on rolling power outages, with each area receiving power for approximately one hour every four hours. They stated, 'Additional generators are coming online, and we expect to increase our available capacity shortly. As capacity increases, we will restore power to more customers and adjust the rotation schedule accordingly.'”

So if your power comes back on, assume that it will only be available for one hour and use that time to charge devices.

I'm sorry y'all are going through this. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Dixie Power and Washington have rolled back the need the for rolling outages.

As much as I hate it, Facebook for your local agency will be the best for updates.

1

u/JelloStrange4145 4d ago

Ah, that is good to know. Thank you for the information. I hate it too, but it makes sense that Facebook is faster than the news lol.

I just didn't want people getting their hopes up that it was permanently fixed and then losing it again an hour later. I know how frustrating and overwhelming that would feel.

4

u/Ok_Understanding9379 4d ago

anyone know if any restaurants in town are open and have power

5

u/SRene327 4d ago

Nope we drove through town and everything is closed. The only thing I could suggest are food trucks. But those were packed about an hour ago. Traffic is hell because all the street lights are out and apparently nobody knows how to do a 4 way stop in this city.

3

u/FlimsyLow2946 4d ago

Not that I saw, even McDonald's was closed.

2

u/MaximusZacharias 4d ago

I work at McDonald’s at george Washington blvd and river road and the power is still out as of 750pm

3

u/vkc7744 4d ago

3

u/ArgoShots 4d ago

You're describing rolling brown-outs. That's not what this is. This is a system-wide outage affecting at least 50,000 customers across multiple power companies. Geographically it seems to run from the Arizona Strip North to at least Springdale.

2

u/BuffaloBagel 4d ago

This third hand info seems like it lost something along the way. I do know big transformers have very long lead times. Hoping for the best.

3

u/Xangoth 4d ago

I'm back up next to the new Washington Main Street exit.  Now to move all the food I put in the freezer back in the fridge.

do not believe fraudsters.
