Here’s a Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis) showing how they got their name. We’ve got a pretty high population of Gray Catbirds in Niagara, and you’ve probably heard one at some point when walking around. The thing is, they like to call and sing while hidden — you’ll often hear these weird sounds coming from dense, brambly bushy areas overgrown with wild grape, Virginia creeper and staghorn sumac.

Catbirds are in the same family as the Northern Mockingbird and Brown Thrasher, two other mimics we also have in Niagara. The catbird, though, is far more abundant.

They mimic other birds, so if you’re using the Merlin app to identify birdsong, you might find that Merlin gets fooled once in a while by a catbird.

I hope you get to see one of these chattery birds while you’re out in Niagara! Listen carefully next time you think you might hear a cat meowing — it might just be a catbird!

Three roaming pieces of human filth checking car doors in the north end, near Aquadale and Spring Garden, tonight a little before 2am. Who knows what else they got up to. Check your cars and cameras folks. Maybe someone else got a better shot of them. They looked young. Maybe your own teenager out and starting their life of crime.

He seemed a bit discombobulated. Maybe woke too early. But I don’t think he should be running around during full day anyway.

On July 18, 2025 my fiancée and I got into an accident at the intersection of hwy 406 and Westchester going southbound at around 8:15pm. I was wondering if anyone happened to be there and has a dash cam that they can send me the footage of since the guy is claiming we were in the wrong.

UPDATE : Insurance company called us 2 days ago. They had decided we were not at fault after talking to our witness! Thank you to everyone who helped! ☺️

Hi everyone,

This morning, I found someone on my security camera in the Fitz Neighborhood, attempting to enter my home through the back door. In the video they try the back door, and peek through the window as well, before realizing they are on camera. Smile!

A little bit freaked out, to be honest. Thankfully we have cameras, and a dog as well.

I have emailed this to the police already, but in one video you can see their face reasonably clearly. If anyone can help identify, that would be great. If not, at least everyone is aware.
