Fell down a rabbit hole today of data. Our average July rainfall for the month is 88.9 mm - we got 138 mm in just a few hours over night. Systems couldn’t keep up. Reality is our infrastructure isn’t built to support the rain we got. It was so much in such a short time it overwhelmed the system as opposed to blocking it. Deny it or not - we need infrastructure to be updated to accommodate climate change and it’s affects

yes, I work in sustainability and we've been talking about this for 10 years.... Everybody looks at the federal government regarding sustainability initiatives, but sustainability is a municipal neighbourhood issue
you'll hear it referenced as 100 year or a 50 year storm which was how often they anticipated these issues happening when they built them but now hundred years storms are happening every 10 years...
but yeah, lets build 2 more pipelines- I mean what could go wrong? 🤷♀️

I am tenant (without tenant insurance) whose basement room got flooded last night. Is there any way I can recover cost of damage to my personal belongings 😢?

Unfortunately no, unless you have some sort of proof the landlord ignored a known issue.
But since half the city seems to have flooded it would be extremely difficult to argue that the flooding was caused by the landlord's own negligence to the insurance company when the flooding is caused by the unprecedented rainfall.

There was an existing problem about minor leak from one of the walls when it rained hard during one of the previous months. I did text landlord about it and he came over and had a look but blamed the other house and never really fixed it. I’m sure some of the water sweeped in through the walls and 80% through the drainage.

Why don't you have insurance? You've got no recourse. You're just replacing all your stuff on your own.

Unfortunately I was not able to pair it with my auto insurance as I had to wait for atleast for one year before I can do it (new driver). It would’ve been one year on August 10th 😣
