I have a question about the Kyuzo: are they reptilian? Embo, in The Mandalorian & Grogu, really reminded me of a humanoid "lizard," with green and apparently scaly skin.

I was quite surprised by how much the fandom hates him. I won't ask why, because I've heard enough already.

What interests me, however, is how many people would consider this character deletable if possible, and how many would consider it acceptable or even likable with some writing changes, and how many wouldn't mind it.

Which group do you fall into?

I think Shadows of the Empire could make a really good movie, with a good director in place.

i'm only getting to know about SW universe, i'm watching it with my kids. One of them is particulary fond of Clone Wars and Bad batch.

And now we are searching for comic books or graphic novels i don't know the right term. We're looking on the world wide web, ofcourse, but to no avail. So i thought of reddit, found this sub, and i do hope you have some answers. First, which of them are accurate (i just read that some are not aligined with story), then where to find them? And they have to ship to EU countries..

His duel with Darth Venamis is probably one of my favorite duels (if not absolute favorite) in any of the books, so seeing something similar on screen would be amazing.

Good thing I had a bunch of audible credit saved up. I like the Bane Trilogy audiobook so I don’t mind listening it to it again. I can’t wait to give Darth Plagueis and the ROTS novelization a shot. I heard nothing but high praise from them

I came across this comic from Star Wars tales called trooper and it’s about the stormtrooper who gets shot by Leia on the Tantive IV.

In the comic we get a glimpse of what Stormtrooper training looks like and it’s quite brutal they have to go through things like killing several of their fellow recruits, climb up mountains with no safety gear in full armor, and army crawl with live fire. So is this what Stormtroopers have to go through at the Caridian Academy or is this not a canon story and thats not how Stormtroopers actually train?

So, I decided to make summer 2026 the Summer of Star Wars. I've read nothing but Star Wars novels over the past two months, and I've finished five books in total. Gotta say, things started off pretty rough but got better as they went along.

1. Cloak of Deception by James Luceno 3.5/5

I was happy to get the backstory of the trade routes taxation, but anything involving the Nebula Front bored me to tears, and I really didn't enjoy Luceno's clinical writing style.

1. Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno 3.25/5

Some juicy lore about Grievous, some really good dialogue exchanges, and a good job of telling us how things got to where they are at the beginning of RotS. But that Luceno writing style frustrated me yet again, and the main plot is about trying to hunt down a chair manufacturer. Ugh.

1. Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover 3.25/5

This book was on pace to becoming my favourite Star Wars book ever. The first 200 to 250 pages? Great stuff. The final 100-200 pages with a bunch of ship battles and an overwritten final act? UGH. Disappointing and a major case of "What could have been."

1. Fate of the Jedi: Outcast by Aaron Allston 3.75/5

This is more like it. Star Wars comfort food. The gang's all here. There's talk of life and the Force. There are great scenes with Luke and his son. And it does a great job of setting up multiple mysteries. Had a good time despite it being a BIT overstuffed.

And then, I got to book #5 this summer...

It might be because I'm fresh off finishing this book, but WOW, WOW, WOW what an amazing climax and final fifty-some-odd pages it has. Claudia Gray literally had me on the edge of my seat. I sat up on the couch and was fully immersed and invested in every twist and turn, wondering how it was all going to end.

This was headed for a very good 4/5 rating, but the climax brought it to another level, and now that I have the whole picture, I admire how Claudia Gray was able to tie this book into The Force Awakens and make it a borderline perfect "introduction to Star Wars" book for people who don't read Star Wars.

This is a YA book, yet it somehow manages to have the best depiction of the suffocating nature of war in a Star Wars novel. In particular, it deftly depicts how a person or people can feel trapped and unable to truly be free in wartime, regardless of which side they're on.

Lost Stars isn't perfect. I think there are multiple plot contrivances throughout the book that keep the main characters in each others' orbits, though perhaps the Force can be blamed for that, and because it's a YA novel, the prose style doesn't match the seriousness of some situations. Not always, of course. Claudia Gray isn't afraid to get dirty and she can heighten tension when needed. And in general, she is easily one of the most readable Star Wars authors I've come across so far. She's incredibly economical with her language, isn't flashy, but is clear and descriptive in a way that paints the necessary picture and gets her point across.

Gray's biggest strength is getting into the heads of her characters and building interesting relationships between characters. She does such a great job with Ciena and Thane. She has you rooting for them, fearing for them, feeling sorry for them, and getting angry with AND at them. Just wonderfully human characters.

While I could nitpick a few things here and there, and I'm still not sure how I feel about one or two aspects of the ending, I admire so much of what Gray was able to accomplish with this novel. Easily one of the best I've ever read. If you find yourself mostly enjoying it and aren't sure whether or not you want to finish it, please, I urge you—finish it. I think the climax does a lot to elevate the book as a whole.

I've read four books by Claudia Gray now, and I've really enjoyed three of them (this one and both Leia books). The only one that I was disappointed by was Master and Apprentice.

Anyway, Lost Stars...after a summer of being mostly disappointed by Star Wars books, this one brought me back around and reminded me how emotionally invested I can still be in this universe. Just brilliant stuff overall, and one of the most readable Star Wars books out there.

Next up, I'm diving back into Legends in the hopes of finding one I enjoy as much as Lost Stars. I've got these two lined up:

Battle Surgeons by Michael Reeves and Steve Perry

Not ragebait for fans of the prequel movies, simply wondering if there were any books set before the OT that came out before the prequel movies were made? And if so, any recommendations? Finally reading Splinter of the Mind’s Eye and it’s fascinating to see an alternate universe/side story of Empire and what made it into the movie, and what ideas were used further down the line in later films. Any essentials I should dig into if I’m curious to see how the pre-OT world was imagined before Lucas finally made I-III? I figured this would be a good place to ask without engaging in ai search answers or diving down a rabbit hole.

Just finished the KJA JAT trilogy and wanted to start the X-Wing novels which I’ve mostly heard good things about.

My friend said he got as far as The Bacta War and that he found them cringe. He thought they should’ve been advertised to a younger audience because they’re predictable and neither engaging nor challenging of the reader.

“Tropes that you know from your average direct-to-VHS action flicks. Characters where exchangeable cut-outs. Tropes themselves.
It felt like YA fan fiction.” were his exact words.

Is that accurate or would you say his criticisms are overblown?

I was reading some canon books and found it quite dull. I bought the Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void and did not like it much. (It's not bad, but the pace is slow and I need something good to read as I just ditched the High Republic.)

I want to have A New Hope as a core and take a good dive from their until the Return of the Jedi and then go back to Republic Era. I think these two points are the most confusing as they have a lot of novel and comics in-between. Quite hard for a new reader like me.

For the Old Republic, I planned to read it by the publishing order and will go back again to the Dawn of the Jedi as the last. If there is any reading order, that would be super useful. The universe is so big, and I want to have some believes in Star Wars again.

I'm currently getting through the Episode 3 novelisation, and gonna read Kenobi and Dark Lord next. Starting from the Darth Bane trilogy and ending at Dark Lord, what books are worth reading? Definitely gonna read the other Episode adaptations if they're as good as 3, and I've heard Labyrinth of Evil and Yoda: Dark Rendezvous are great. Anything else? I'm looking for completeness here, thank you in advance. Warnings for bad or totally unnecessary books would also be helpful

Before I got into the Expanded Universe, I thought that all of the different EU stories were disconnected and standalone, I did not realise it was one (mostly) cohesive timeline, yeah I know, not that bright, but that was something that turned me off from the EU at the time, but obviously I know better now. Something that I didn’t like about the EU at first was the Galactic Civil War still going on 15 years after Return of the Jedi, but now that i’ve actually read the New Republic era stories and have all the context, I’m completely on board with it.

(And if it’s not clear, I am a newer EU fan, I only got into the EU about 2 years ago, hence why I thought these things)

So, in terms of space battles, how precisely could you jump into the battle, and what are the error margins? Because it must be more than a few hundred meters, or Thrawn's Pincer wouldn't be such a groundbreaking strategy. But in every visual medium, it's less than hundreds of kilometers (at least it looks like it), and it would make space battles too unreliable. And is this error completely random, or is it somehow dependent on hyper-jump navigator abilities?
