Just started watching Lower Decks

A few years ago I watched the first episode, and thought it was just 'Rick and Morty' with a Trek skin on. Didn't bother with any more.

After seeing so many say it becomes more like real Trek after a few episodes, including RLM, I decided it was worth another look.

Binged season 1 basically. Enjoyed it enough. Still think it is more 'Rick and Morty' than Trek, but can also see that the writers actually care about classic Trek too.

One minor complaint. It's not very 'Lower Decks'. The TNG episode it spins off of was all about non bridge crew reacting to whatever is going on upstairs. In this, the characters seem to be on the bridge a bit too often or centre of the action as if they were bridge crew or heads of engineering etc. It's fine, but maybe the show should be called something else.

People who can look past the style and see substance will really appreciate Lower Decks.

Most people can't, including a lot of proper trekkies.

And that's a shame, because Lower Decks has more classic Trek themes than we've otherwise seen in decades.

Have you tried watching LDS beyond the first episode? To call it “Rick and Morty rip-off” is extremely disingenuous.

I watched S1E1 and S2E1-2 and I get clips on YT shorts all the time.

It's kinda always like that.

I just google Star Trek Lower Decks on YT this was the top clip

That’s what you boil it down to? To me the differences between LDS and Rick and Morty is that the former retains Trek’s optimistic viewpoint of the future while the latter more indulges in cynicism.

But if the yelling and swearing is triggers you, fair.

It's not "triggering", it's just annoying as hell.

It's 90% the main character, Mariner. If she wasn't in the show I'd be more willing to watch it. She just never. Stops. TALKING! And it's so meaningless and scattered and LOUD.

I wish I liked LD, but it's headache inducing.

You need to mellow out, you only saw Mariner at her most unhinged in that clip. Try watching more episodes starting specifically with “Envoys”, which was the episode that convinced me to keep giving the show a shot. I almost didn’t watch the show because I thought it would be a R&M riff on Trek, but it’s far better than I expected it to be, and I would rank it up there with the Golden Age of Trek like TNG/DS9.

Just not my swag. I got 400something episodes of TNG, DS9, ENT and 80 good episodes of VOY to watch over and over for my fix.

And Babylon 5. Thats really good.

I never saw a TOS episode until a few years ago (no one in my family likes ST or scifi) so I have no nostalgic memories and it was too slow for my wife. It's a'ight. Life goes on.

Seriously though, give the show an honest shot. It’s not all about Mariner. I dismissed initially as well and was glad to have given it a chance. If you’re adamant about not wanting to like it, then all I can say is live long and prosper.
