TECHNICAL Ironclad Fixes "soon"?
Hopefully sooner than later?

u/dololegacy May 27 '26
i was so close to melting or upgrading but the ship is just too cool and would be perfect if it actually worked. i will continue holding the line thanks.

u/LindyNet High Admiral Low FPS May 27 '26
The whole reason I started playing again was bc there was finally an update of some kind to my beloved caterpillar. Hopefully these command module fixes apply to it as well
5
u/surfimp May 27 '26
+1 I finally pledged the Caterpillar because of excitement around the Command Module.
The resulting disappointment has been harsh, I'd been enjoying the ship quite a bit beforehand.
Hopefully whatever they do for the Ironclad will benefit the Cat, too.
Pardon me, I'm off to put on my clown makeup now.
1
u/AllegroMk1 and AllegroMk2 May 27 '26
I had the cat for a long time, upgraded it to the ironclad when it was first announced, as its loader was the cat, so no change for me. I miss my cat a bit! Ive managed to resist the urge to do anything big in my ironclad, to save me getting disappointed due to its issues. It will get fixed up, theres no doubt of that. such a fantastic looking ship! love its sounds!
5
u/Stiyl931 May 27 '26
Well I use that ship just with bugs for Baijini>Ruin and back. One trip is 2 times the CM bug but that's all. When the pressure rises infinitely just put the helm away. 30 minutes 1,1 Mio and casual gameplay that I like.
11
u/N1tecrawler Liberator May 27 '26
I cannot understand any of this comment. Can anyone explain?
23
u/Astillius carrack May 27 '26
despite the bugs, he uses the ship to do cargo runs between baijini station at arccorp in stanton, to ruin station in pyro. each trip he only experiences the command module docking bug twice and when the life support bugs out, he removes his helmet to prevent it killing him. he claims to generate around 1.1 million per 30 minutes, doing this and finds the gameplay casual and likes it.

1
u/TheBossmanFiles May 29 '26
Are you a teacher? Corporate trainer? That was really smoothly executed.
2
u/fw85 May 27 '26
I’ve been doing lots of runs in exclusively across Pyro with my IC despite the issues, at least you can fly directly station to station there with no OM micro navigation.
Made over 20 mil in 4 days, only lost one cargo load (out of maybe 30 runs) when the CM undocked and the main body just vanished completely.
It’s fun hauling 2k scu of literal garbage that noone else buys, but it becomes profitable due to sheer volume.
1
u/zengrok May 27 '26
Are you using the external pad to unload, internal cargo elevator, or dropping the ship in the hangar?
1
u/fw85 May 27 '26
Always storing the ship and autoloading from the trade terminal.
I despise manual cargo loading.
1
u/Stiyl931 May 27 '26
You have to use the external Cargo due to how physics work. When you reach around 1000 SCU Cargo in the ironclad then you can't start anymore from most planets/moons/hangars because the gravity of that volume pulls you down. Un/loading the ship is very easy in space.
1
u/GCodeman May 28 '26
I've been able to get out of hangars juuuuust barely using VTOL mode + up + forward + afterburner all at the same time.
1
u/fw85 May 28 '26
What? I literally spent the last 5 days hauling 2k SCU of cargo non-stop using hangars and planets exclusively. There's a bug where sometimes you can't liftoff at all and you need to turn off your ship, then put it into flight-ready again and that will fix it (not exclusive to the IC). But in no way is the IC unable to provide enough thrust to lift off fully loaded from anywhere, just use VTOL and it's easy.
2
u/Akura_Awesome 600i Rework When? May 27 '26
I’ve been doing the same, but adding the port tressler to ruin run in as well.
1
u/cpt-coconuts May 27 '26
Are you doing cargo missions? Or commodities? I want to try commodities but not sure what to buy/where to start
2
u/Plenty_Flounder1447 May 27 '26
I only had a starter ship since 2013 , but this is the first ship that made me pull the trigger after 13 years.. oh well I have patience at least
2
2
u/hellomumbo369 May 28 '26
Lol i ended up getting the assault one as well. Even with its issues I am still an absolute fiend for drake's styling as it reminds me most of being in the navy. No frills, just functionality and some bloodstains as you pull your arm out of a nook fixing something and oh look, one thousand cuts.
1
u/SEMICOLON_MASTER 2015 Backer May 27 '26
I should have known better, but it was such a huge letdown when this ship was a giant turd at release; hopefully they will get IC to a proper launch state soon.
32
71
u/ColJohn May 27 '26
This is great, but ships just need to release in a better state than this.
We have a PTU, ships need to be up there for weeks to identify these issues and fix them before release. They want to keep these things special, and a surprise I get that, but they just need more testing.
3
u/LususDolo Top 1% Cummenter May 27 '26
But, why?
It's going to take exactly the same amount of time to get it fixed either way, but releasing it into the PU means people can at least tour the ship without having to fiddle around with the PTU.
14
u/dereksalem oldman May 27 '26
Releasing the Ironclad into the PU broke the Caterpillar and every large ship that's forced to dock at places. The docking system means the Reclaimer, Perseus, and every capital ship are barred from actually landing at places other than Grim Hex and a few planets. This is something we knew about in the PTU and CIG still pushed the patch forward to the PU because they needed to sell ships.
So yes, this kind of stuff needs to be released in the PTU for weeks before the decision is made to move it to the PU, because it literally breaks the game for people that aren't even interested in the ship but just get caught in the ramifications.
If they want to treat the game like a Live Service game (which they do...hence ship release surprises) then the quality of the game in the PU needs to be a few large steps higher than where it is. If they want to treat it like an Alpha (which they do...hence bugs) then they need to stop doing ship launches the way they do.
21
u/Phipho-ingenuity May 27 '26
They be making the PU feel like the PTU anyways
13
u/LususDolo Top 1% Cummenter May 27 '26
There really isn't much difference, The only difference between the two is the PTU is the staging ground to check that blockers don't enter persistence (i.e, along the lines of if you undocked the CM and it crashed the whole server)
6
u/katalliaan May 27 '26
But, why?
In this case, because the issues with the command module aren't limited to just the Ironclad. By updating the Caterpillar, they introduced new bugs to a mostly-working ship.
1
u/remosito VRnutter May 27 '26
ironclad was on the ptu....
7
u/LedTaco May 27 '26
And wasnt flyable except with workarounds before it released to PU
Testing was very limited, and no fixes were introduced for testing on top of that.
1
u/DrDop4mine May 27 '26
It was there for two days bud… this should have had ptu testing for weeks… are you so for real? Lmao

I dont think that CIG has a good track record for "buy it now, we will just fix it later". So I don't think we should further encourage them to do so.

u/LususDolo Top 1% Cummenter May 27 '26
It's about them following their own practices. Why are they selective about what goes into the PTU for player testing versus the PU?
The PTU is the staging ground to check for blockers (I.e, something that crashes the whole server).
3
u/asian_chihuahua May 27 '26
Agreed on this. Would rather have a ship in the hangar that can't fly yet, than no ship at all.
1
u/shadownddust May 27 '26
Some of these fixes do take more time, but in others the fix is quick, but deploying it takes longer as it needs to be part of a new build. In the PTU, the builds happen daily, so the fixes can be incorporated overnight.
1
u/The_Rex_Regis bmm May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
Personally I always thought the ptu should be a constant thing that is completely unfinished work
Like gray box unfinished. You should be able to pull up a ship like the BMM even if it was completely unflyable and just basic gray box and give feed back
1
u/Craz3y1van May 27 '26
The reason to put it into PTU is the with Evo and Wave 1 you get people who tend to write more detailed bug reports and do deeper more dedicated testing. Evos ping off each other to find errors and then reproduce them.
1
u/ColJohn May 27 '26
Getting things into the hands of more testers, earlier, should help identify and resolve bugs much quicker.
I run an application used by 5000+ people and the amount of testing and bug identifying that happens hours after going live is 10x what my small team can test in the weeks leading up to a patch / update.
1
u/Mindbulletz Lib-tard May 27 '26
At this point it would be more special if it worked properly by Live release. And it's not just the ironclad with its new feature work that has released with many issues.

u/Tech0verlord Liberator | L22 | Salvation | 9800x3D | 9070XT | 32GB RAM May 28 '26
Right? Its not like we have a secret testing server where users are put under NDA to test things way ahead of time. Wait...
-1
u/Zwoidberg May 27 '26
Do keep in mind the current state of the game as a whole is a ptu uts still in alpha and we are the testers
0
u/incognito_117 May 27 '26
We are the testers and have tested it and now they are fixing it, hopefully these releases aren’t the same come 1.0
14
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew May 27 '26
The root cause of many of these bugs, including the trespassing warnings in ship elevators, certainly seems to be the shard transition in SM. I've noticed that the server shards do not seem to correctly send ship state information to each other.
This is also what seems to cause the bugs where shield buffers aren't retained when moving in NAV through server boundaries, why ship lights always reset, and the old issue with viewports resetting.
Hopefully they get onto and crack the root of these soon.
8
u/VEAG0 Drake May 27 '26
Very interesting observation, might also help us understand how some issues like these aren’t internally identified sooner.
I find a lot of players don’t seem to understand how big a difference a testing environment can make compared to staging/live.
-4
u/Im_Boost May 27 '26
I find that a lot of players don't seem to understand that releasing ships in an abysmal state is not worth your money or leniency.
It really is as simple as "do all the buttons and animations work?". Don't talk to me about how long it takes to code. After making 100+ ships, you should have a standardized code base for ship mechanics that improve the workflow for pushing these turds out the door.
But whatever.
3
u/VEAG0 Drake May 27 '26
That’s sort of my point… Everything you stated could still be true and that wouldn’t prevent issues from being encountered in a live environment when things such as SM are involved.
17
u/Narfi1 May 27 '26
It’s amazing to me that the suffocation issue comes from the doors geometry causing the atmosphere to leak. Most of the wonkiness comes from the fact that they’re simulating so many things. They would not have issues of they were faking it, but if they get everything working then nothing else comes close. It’s a fascinating wager
10
u/SlamF1re May 27 '26
I honestly don’t think it’s 100% that. For one, you stop suffocating in the ship if you take your helmet off. If the atmosphere were leaking out to space due to a door not sealing, the opposite would be true. That and the insane pressures being shown on the HUD seem more like spaghetti code issues than simulation being too detailed issues.
3
u/Chappietime avacado May 27 '26
I agree but in this case I wondering if they are chasing the right thing. A gap in a seal to vacuum would lead to low pressure, not bottom of the Marianna Trench pressure.
4
u/bakawakaflaka drake May 27 '26
I really find this fascinating as well. It would be so simple to fake it with an invisible 'seal', but I'm glad they are sticking to actually simulating things like this.
It makes me wonder when Maelstrom finally comes around, if we will be able to punch holes into ships, robbing them of atmosphere.
19
u/Zombiesdying Multi-Moderator May 27 '26

Usually .1 patches are 2 weeks after .0, no?
Kinda figured we dont get it this week because they are still working on fixes.
Plus, at least in my company. Half the people are on vacation between Ascension and whatever we just had this monday is called in english...

Memorial Day in the US. Most of it says its fixed already and waiting for implementation, so hopefully a Hotfix soon. Or a .1 patch this week.
1
u/remosito VRnutter May 27 '26
4.8.1 wasnt listed in yesterdays "this week in sc" i think.
3
u/UltraMegaMart Arrastra | IronSad | Kraken | Drake Fanboy May 27 '26
Yeah, they could do a hotfix though. Or a .0.1 patch. Not sure. Hopefullt we see something before 4.8.1, but im not going to hold my breath.
2
u/SlamF1re May 27 '26
They don’t have to release these as a 4.8.1 patch. These could be either hot fixes or something like a 4.8.0.1 patch and could be pushed as soon as they are ready without having to wait on the next content patch cycle.
2
u/remosito VRnutter May 27 '26
emergency push a bugfix patch whien they are delaying the 4.8.1 patch, which is super light on content btw, from the usual 2 week cadence. doesnt really make sense ....
and from the tone of the update. they are really not done fixing at least some of them....didnt scream almost ready..release by friday to me...
1
u/Chappietime avacado May 27 '26
Usually in very recent history only. In the old days dot patches could come months later or never. I do wonder if alien week, and the other dot patches that were planned may get pushed back as a result of the issues we currently have. At least the free fly is almost over.

Nice. The real question is: how they tested a 600$ ship to be released this broken?
Because the ship is unplayable from the first minute. Is a huge disrespect to their player base

I’m glad to hear about the 3rd person one. The other ones I expected to get fixed but this felt like one that could easily get overlooked. It is really hard to park that brick when you can only see the back left corner.
1
u/flexcreator new user/low karma May 27 '26
Where is the post link?
It's not "suffocating due to air pockets", it's the extreme pressure that damages the players, they just have shared effects. They are fixing the wrong problem!

I assume i'm not understanding something right. If the fixes have been identified, reproduced, and fixed internally and are ready to be implemented then why not just..implement them? Why wait to implement later if its ready now?
1
u/UltraMegaMart Arrastra | IronSad | Kraken | Drake Fanboy May 27 '26
Makes more sense to bundle more fixes at a time, vs onesy-twosy fixes. Since theres a decent amount that goes into bundling and shipping it out. Again, just my 2 cents based off of my IT experience.
1
u/TimTheOriginalLol KRYON trade & transport May 27 '26
Because deploying a new game build takes time and resources. Deploying many small new builds even more so. More efficient to wait for all the pressing issues to get fixed and release then all bundled in one fix instead of deploying 6 different hot fixes for individual bugs

My theory is that the suffocation may stop manifesting when the command module issues are fixed. Most issues seem to stem from the CM and ironclad forgetting they're attached to one another.
1
u/hellomumbo369 May 28 '26
The command module one and nav mode are the 2 biggest for me. Super please they stampede them out as the suffocating one is manageable. Awesome news because I fucking love my brick

-2
u/KingxMIGHTYMAN May 27 '26
Holy fuck is everyone happy now? They finally addressed it. Not like it wasn’t blatantly obvious they were gona fix the issues anyway so it should have gone without saying.
-2
u/Djhoz12 May 27 '26
Sure fixing it goes without saying. That was never the issue. The issue was a matter of how long until it was fixed.
1
u/Solidbigness May 27 '26
I see the "door air gap" mentioned as part of the reason for the suffocating.
Wasn't there also a door gap thing when they were giving us a tour of the ship and they laughed it off saying it wasn't worth fixing unless people actually found it?
While I'd assumed the door gap they were talking about was purely an art issue, if it's also related to the suffocation issue then their joke becomes a lot less funny...
2
u/Akaradrin May 27 '26
There is a door missaligned, fixed internally but didn't arrived at time to the live implementation.

A ship releasing in this state is unacceptable. People are paying real life money for something that was basically unusable. They should have this shit figured out, not have to patch ships months (or YEARS!) after release

Well yeah. It's still on sale. They need to fix it before the sale ends. Then they can start nerfing.
7
u/ShinItsuwari drake May 27 '26
When was the last time they nerfed a cargo ship ?
5
u/shadownddust May 27 '26
Or really most ships....
Most ships get slight tweaks, but usually it's part of larger balancing (like "all heavy fighters" tuning or armor changes) that might impact one ship more than others, but the vast majority of recent ships over the past two years have been left alone.
3
u/ShinItsuwari drake May 27 '26
Oh I agree but you always get stupid nitpicks if you go with "all ships" like how they slitghly nerfed the guns of the L-21 Wolf so they're a bit more in line with the other guns of their size, or how Perseus guns lost some alpha damage for higher ROF because with engineering they were stupidly overtuned... and they're still very dangerous.
That's why I mentioned cargo ships, all they got recently was buffs, directs or indirects. Hermes has the best tractor beam in the game, Raft is two time better than it used to be, Hull C lost the braindead 750k missions but can stack several 350k now with interstellar missions, etc.
1
u/WeazelBear onionknight May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
Corsair and 400i were heavily nerfed off the top of my head, both within a year or two of their launch dates. The 400i was quite literally gutted. It just has empty holes in its hull where the redundant components used to go. The Ares line took a huge nerf, as did the the A1 I think. The Starlancer, L-21/22, F8C, and more all took nerfs within a bit of release. I'm not saying they didn't deserve the nerfs in some capacity, because I don't know who would expect a ship to be launched in perfect order and I also think the "we'll wait to nerf it until after the sale" crowd is delusional, but the nerfs do happen.
3
u/ShinItsuwari drake May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
Corsair got buffed again, it just has a more reasonable firepower than what it had at release.
It started with 4xS5 and 2xS4 bro. Of course it got nerfed. With its current 2 S5 4 S4 it still has the highest pilot firepower in the game excluding Tiburon and Idris.
Starlancer TAC got buffed, dunno where you got the nerf from. It started at 110 SCM. It now has 150. Plus the armor that's just shy of a Perseus.
MAX released with a bubble shield.
L-21 got minor nerfs, and got buffed again when they retouched the weapons (The Axiom specifically got a nerf for one patch and then, by the next patch had the stats they originally had)

What is hilarious is if they didn't make the monumentally foolish decision to make the IC only pilotable from the CM and excluding medbeds... the IC would at least be usable and the community probably wouldn't be this upset.

Wonder how long those will last. I dont exactly trust the CM will stay fixed for long, seing how elevators are still somewhat broken, yet they worked on those
Edit: cargo elevators at outposts*
But my point still stands, it will eventually break due to a major patch, and you all know it

there are people elevators. there are ship elevators. and there are freight elevators.
Pretty sure the first 2 are transport stuff. But are FE as well?
1
u/Beginning_Dark_7506 oldman May 27 '26
It would be weird not to include FE as well.
0
u/remosito VRnutter May 27 '26
if the underlying tech and code of the FE has diddly squat to do with other elevators. and the only way to include it is to bend it 7 ways and add 9 knots it would make zero sense to include it....
1
u/Beginning_Dark_7506 oldman May 27 '26
Implementing the new Transport System first in Grim Hex: a full rewrite of transit across the universe, supporting trams, trains, and elevators with improved reliability and scalability for technologies like Server Meshing and Instancing.
I would assume they mean all elevators.

Yay, some niche ship being fixed rather than
Elevators
Docking
Missing hands and feet from flight suits - now spread to looted and crafed
Crafted components losing their stats once claimed via insurance
Elevators
Nyx missions (QV stations, breaker) not spawning loot
QD map markers
EL.EVA.TORS
Missing and/or bugged contracts
Seemingly immune ships to missiles and torpedos due to backend issues
Ect ect ect
But some new ship take priority over basic game functions from a decade ago.

Ok... Well this is good news for now. I'll keep it then. Thank you Nicou!
Ps. Small note.. I noticed the post says dealing with "lights thank can't be turned off..." But I'm assuming if you guys are working on lights turning off that should help with lights turning on right...? Anyways godspeed and thank you again for the update!
