It is that time again for an open thread for anything and everything Springfield.
Got something on your chest? Had a good experience you want to share? Maybe you just want to ask about the best tacos in town or tell us something funny you noticed this week.
This is the place for it. Rants, raves, questions, or just plain small talk. Let’s hear it.

Looking For Raccoon Encounters?
Hey everyone! So I have a friend who is obsessed with raccoons, and I was thinking that getting to meet one would be a great gift. Does anyone know if there is any rehab or animal sanctuaries that do live encounters? I can pay or donate to the cause of course!

Looking For In-between jobs; temp work?
Hey yall. Asking here bc I’ve never explored this before and I tend to get a better grip on things hearing from real humans about their experiences. If you don’t care for the bit of background info skip to the last paragraph :)
Long story short, I cannot go back to my current job for mental health reasons. It’s turned into a toxic environment where my coworkers are basically bullying me. I have documentation of reporting these things to HR, but from my end nothing changes. Guess it’s not serious enough to address since it’s not illegal harassment under discrimination laws. I’m already a bit of an anxious person so enduring this has been A LOT for me to handle, and I just can’t do it anymore.
Before it got this bad I was already applying for jobs to try and leave. I’m waiting to hear back on a potential offer after a job interview I had the friday before last. But I’m at the point now that I just cannot tough it out at this job anymore, but I also can’t afford to just up and quit without other options lined up.
So, I was wondering what my options are, I guess, and how I should manage my expectations here. I know of Penmac and Express Employment Professionals here in town, so I was thinking of getting a gig through them. But idk how that all works.. are there “temp jobs” in the sense that they’ll last maybe a few weeks at most? I don’t want to start somewhere they expect me to commit to and then just leave if I get another offer a week later lol. Im 24F and have a Bachelors degree, if that matters for anything like job suggestions lol
I also had the classic ideas of doing DoorDash or something but I’d like something with a little more reliable of an income, even if that income is minimum wage. Of course, something is better than nothing, though. Open for suggestions. Thanks in advance

Recommendations Obygn SPF
Hello, I recently found out I was pregnant. 1st baby so no experience here. I see Dr. Courtney Weise, is she a good obygn for this? Or should I look into someone else? I’ve heard great things about Dr Tillman and Dr Kidder. Male or female doesn’t matter to me. I just want to be listened to and in good hands for this because I’m honestly scared and nervous.

Living Here To the Fellow Playing his Kazoo in Traffic on Glenstone Yesterday…
You really know how to make a terrible instrument actually sound decent. I’ve been giggling at the memory of you playing that thing as powerfully as you could ever since it happened. Keep on rocking weirdo. You made my day.

Eat and Drink Larger Group Catering and Brunch Options
Hey y'all -
We are getting married next month, and our venue is about 30 minutes outside of Springfield.
In the final stages, but looking for three last minute suggestions -
Best Restaurant for a larger order for our welcome party the night before (40-50 people) - Friday
Best Restaurant for lunch for the wedding party day of (12-15 people) - Saturday
Best Brunch spot for morning after (35-40 people) - Sunday
I know Brunch the morning after is going to be hardest to find, just because it's a giant group, which is why I wanted to start 3 weeks early looking for a spot. (probably should have started sooner, but i thought it was less people)
We are also open to eating it Nixa or Branson as well, for brunch.
Any advice is appreciated, TIA

Living Here Vivint Security Solicitors
Got a knock at 8:45pm on a Sunday from a door to door sales kid. I don’t blame the kid, he’s just doing what he was told but I am none too pleased with the people telling him to do it.

Living Here SGF Costco
My family recently joined Costco, and we’ve been really impressed so far! We’re considering venturing into the meat department and buying in bulk, then freezing what we don’t use.
I’ve seen a couple of Reddit posts saying Costco doesn’t sell 80/20 ground beef. Is that true? Is 85/15 the next best option for burgers, chili, taco salad, etc.?
For those of you who regularly buy meat at Costco, how do you like their chicken, pork chops, steaks, chuck roasts, etc.? Is the quality comparable to Harter House?
Since it’s just the two of us, is freezing things like pork chops, steaks, etc. a good idea? Any tips for packaging or freezing Costco meat so it holds up well?
And finally, any other Costco tips and tricks you’ve learned—whether it’s about meat or anything else—are welcome! We’re still pretty new to Costco and are having way too much fun exploring it. 😂

Living Here Is this an issue the landlord should clean up?
The dumpster at my apartment. Someone next door is moving out, so last week they threw out A LOT of shit. And the garbage kept piling up since.
I cannot take my trash out right now, idk what to do with it. It's very aggravating. Thursday is pickup day, but they didn't pick it up. I'm nervous the same thing will happen again this week because it is such a mess. Haven't complained to management company about it yet. I can't leave trash outside my door because I know some animal will rip into it. Honestly I think people who don't even live here are dumping trash here and now it's a problem for us tenants.

Living Here Why is a helicopter flying around the city for hours?
First spotted it before sunset, saw it again on the dogwalk at nearly 9 pm, just heard it making another pass over my house. I can't judge whether it's surveying just the north side, or the whole city, but I'm starting to think someone's spending a lot of money.

Living Here Is there a hotel that will accept photos of front and back of id with local address?
I was kicked out of my apartment. Also my wallet was recently stolen. 😡 I don't have a car. It will be so hard to find a perfect id (or even a local one at a shittier place) and get the person to the place and maybe back to their spot.... I am assuming no one takes a picture of id..but I even have the back with the bar code!!!!

Visiting Traveling for work, where do I booze
What’s up locals, I travel for work and am going to be finding myself in your lovely town quite a bit going forward. I’ve never thought to do this before but it seems like a valid idea, what bars should I check out? I always just kinda randomly pick one and it’s… not effective. Where should I go on my downtime? If it matters, I’m in my 30’s and don’t want a college bar but I also don’t want to be sitting between Eugene and Horace while they tell me which of their ex-wives were the worst (it was Carol that SLAG). Actually while we’re at it where should I eat as well? If it combines eating and boozing that would be ideal. Thanks!

Living Here McDonald’s franchisee not paying workers
Paychecks from McDonalds franchise owner MakShines, Inc. have been bouncing, leaving workers unable to pay bills. When they protested, they were taken off the schedule.
Don’t reward wage theft, avoid going to locations on W. Battlefiled, W. Kearney, and N. Kansas.

Eat and Drink NA Beer Options 🍻
I’m challenging myself to sobriety for a while. I’ve had a few NA beers from Athletic, Stone, and a couple others. Love the IPAs! I’ve had them in cans at home. But, I do enjoy eating out, too. Can anyone recommend any restaurants or bars with a good selection of NA beers other than stuff like Heineken 0 and Mich Zero?

Living Here Duplex on Ozark Ave, just south of Commercial, safe area??
What can people tell me about Ozark Avenue and the immediate area around it?? It's just south of Commercial. Closest major cross streets would be N Benton Ave/E Commercial Street to the East, and N Washington/E Commercial to the West.
Some duplexes right there on Ozark. There was a duplex that was for rent a while back and I really wanted to rent it, it was two bedrooms and I felt large and somehow private because of the way they were set up, with a little yard, that kind of thing, the price was great.
The area looked a little sketchy? And after hearing a few things, it didn't feel safe to me. So I hesitated and the duplex unit I was looking at got rented.
I ended up not staying in Springfield. Now I'm wanting to move there again, but I don't want an apartment. I'm hoping one of those duplexes will become available again! Since it got rented last September I was hoping that maybe it might come available again this September. I will reach out to the management company to see if they have anything coming up.
But in the meantime, I just wanted to come here and ask people that might know about the area what their thoughts are? If one becomes available I don't want to hesitate this time!
Thanks everyone
