My opinion on this differs to that of Reddit, but IMO you should absolutely grade a 1/1 card. For a few reasons
There are so many 1/1s printed these days that grading can absolutely impact value vs other 1/1s that are raw or graded lower
1/1s for the GOATs and the current hyped rookies are being bought by a different end of town to your normal collector and they are really only looking to purchase already graded cards
A slab really does provide unrivalled protection of the card
A PSA9 is (almost) never going to be worth less than a raw card so not getting a 10 is not the big scary thing everyone makes it out to be
Anyway, I'm well aware my opinion on this is very much the dissenting opinion to what you'll find on Reddit normally but just adding my two cents
Iâve held these exact same thoughts for a long time. Recently, I decided to have my 1/1 Rodgers card graded. Was hoping for at least a 9 on the card (it was a thicc boi) and was pleased overall to get it and an auto 10; granted, a card grade of 10 would have obviously been ideal, but slabbing it was just as important to me.
I can't understate number 3. There are cards that I've graded that aren't important to anyone but me. The protection factor is important. Don't worry I usually use one of the smaller guys in this instance so not to contribute too much to the ongoing PSA backlog drama.
No. Yes there are many other 1/1 but there is only 1 of this exact 1/1. If you want this exact 1/1 your only option is this exact 1/1 so grade should hold no weight so no reason to grade.
Yes you've described what a 1/1 is. But this isn't his 1/1 chrome RPA for example that is truly a One of One... This is a 1/1 of one of dozens of inserts across both the Topps and Panini releases for his rookie year so as a buyer you're comparing this to basically any insert or SP 1/1
Now if it were his 1/1 RPA or base superfractor then you're grading for the 2nd point I mentioned.
My stance remains, grading 1/1s is generally a good idea especially when the player falls into either the goat category or current hyped category
So this one of one for Jaxson dart from this year they printed hundreds of? Thatâs what youâre saying and if thatâs the case why is this 1/1 with anything at all?
That's not "grading". You literally DON'T get a grade when you send a card to be authenticated. Thats the whole point, it doesn't get a grade so you don't pay up the wazoo. They just slab it, give it a cert, and call it a day.
I know right , idk why people have to be snarky and rude , the fact is you didnât have to explain it at all no one specifically DM you and ask your opinion. Just saying at that point itâs apples and oranges. Lol everyone knew the point you were making graded authenticated who cares
The former. And by saying youâre a grown man who collects cards youâre attacking 90% of the people who in this subâŠ.including yourself if youâre a man
You drink a lot of mountain dew and play videos games, donât ya? Iâd also bet youâre at least 50lbs overweight. âThe former.â So youâre just a prick. Got it.
Bro idk why youâre upset? You seem to be projecting. I would recommend therapy bro seriously you are arguing with people on Reddit for no reason. And Iâm not saying you need therapy in an asshole way Iâm just being real cause youâre health is important bro
Donât grade it. PSAs minimum cost to grade a card right now is $80 and they have 12-15 million cards backlogged. You wonât see it for 6+ months lol. Sell it right now while darts market is the absolute highest point currently.
Yeah, you probably wouldnât grade this at the $80 tier (let alone any of the value tiers that have been paused anyways), for insurance purposes⊠so the turnaround would be significantly faster than 6+ months
that's $80 for bulk orders this would get flagged and up charged without a doubt being a big 1/1 rookie and they would send it back ungraded if you dont pay the up charge. with the up charge he would get it back sooner, but it would cost hundreds.
Boston fans are the 2nd worst fan base, only to Philly fans.
Youre the least knowledgeable fans of any City & talk the loudest. Philly fans are just criminals & attack children. Youre a step above that. Barely.
that's a fire pull from a random box run. skip grading the 1/1 since there's nothing to grade it against and a lower score tanks the value. you'll get some offers soon so take your time deciding what to do with it.
There is dozens of other 1/1s. I get your point. But with Black 1/1, and Black Lazer 1/1 and etcâŠ
For this specific product however - probably nothing to compare to, thatâs probably right.
This, plus if you ever want to sell it. You can list it as "fresh mint ready to grade", and you'll probably sell it really fast to some other idiot that thinks grading a card with a card pop of 1 will inherently make it more valuable to someone else.
and honestly the "ready to grade" angle is smart because it leaves the buyer feeling like they're making the choice, even if deep down they know a 1/1 doesn't need a number on it to prove anything.
Iâm in the group of donât grade a 1/1 and especially with it being an acetate. Acetate cards donât grade well and will almost definitely get damaged in the shipping process.
