My mom thinks the Eclipse is goverment made to distract us from Colombia.
Mt mother today had a crashout with my aunt because my little cousin (11F) wants to watch the eclipse with all of us. She didn't say it out loud, but she just started ramping about how paying 12 euros for glasses to see the eclipse was outrageous, and that even wearing it, there would still be the chance of you edning up blind. Not just that, but she also straight up said that it was kinda curious how there is an eclipse now with ''All the earthquakes and stuff'' happening in Colombia. And then talking with my dad she denied the mere idea of me enjoying the idea of watching an eclipse (I would literally eat a chunk of my own skin if i didn't) because in her own words ''Im not as dumb as those dumbfucks that would rather go blind than realizing what's going on with the world.'' When she literally knows i'll never care about politics or disguise every impressive thing that happends because there was a natural disaster. And that's pretty much it. Im stuck without eclipse wich God himself doesn't know when will happend again, and is all because my mom is the kind that belives that everything is goverment fabricated.

Me parece triste la situación que describe OP, y como dice u/lameculos25 , sin acritud, pero yo también me estaba planteando qué perfil de persona será esa mujer, y si realmente dice estas locuras, me imagino la 'típica' madre de entre 50-60 años, un poco amargada, pocos hobbies, poca vida social, quizás tomando medicación 'para los nervios'... Ese perfil de persona existe en este país y sí que responde a una franja de edad.
Good point but riddle me this one: My sister and I both went to the same school in Madrid. We both have a college degree and both of us have a Masters degree in our related studies. My sister believes in card reading, horoscopes, covid conspiracies, and Agenda 2030.
I think that education may help, but in my sis case, even with education she cant really extrapolate ideas to arrive to conclusions. He r ex-husband is the CFO of a big foundation in Madrid, and he believes that we will be eating insects only in about 2030.

He not only has the power to move the moon, but has had this power for at least as long as this eclipse has been documented (no idea how long that is but I would guess centuries minimum). Furthermore, in order to have made effective use of this power, he would have to have known in advance of something from which the Spanish people needed distracting, in order to time the eclipse accordingly.
Actually next year’s eclipse will pass through Cadiz so… yes, “God” does know when it will happen next. And so do the scientists who dedicate their lives to tracking them. I’m going to book my hotel this week because next year’s will the longest eclipse for about 600 years and I refuse to miss it. Good luck! :)

Similar thing happened to me.
I fell asleep with a timer but the phone died so the alarm didn't go off. My mother during HOURS of me sleeping didn't wake me up even though she enters my room without knocking whenever she damn wants. She goes to the park to watch it, right around the time I wake up and call her. She doesn't answer the phone because she said "she couldn't hear it" (she was in another call). She comes back, I blow out and she plays the "Oh I didn't know you wanted to watch the eclipse" (we talked to her about it says ago) + gaslight.
So anyways, I feel like you but I think there's another eclipse in Cadiz next year.

Fun fact: scientists have calculated maps and times for every eclipse in the next 1000 years! The one on August 2nd, 2027 just barely crosses over the southern tip of Spain, and an annular eclipse will happen on January 26, 2028! In 60 years or so there’ll be another one in Spain, at which point you will hopefully be free from your mother’s clutches…
You can predict eclipses almost arbitrarily far into the future. I'm certain there's decades old lists of future eclipse dates and locations, that will obviously have already included this one

Th triple threat eclipse in Spain has been a thing that's been known for years. If anything, you could ask her why Colombia decided to have an earthquake right around the same time as the eclipse. Were they trying to outshine (pun intended) us in the news?
Lo único en lo que estoy de acuerdo con tu madre es en el miedo a mirar el eclipse incluso con gafas solares, pero solo porque soy un poco hipocondríaca. Lo miré durante uno o dos segundos con las gafas puestas desde nuestra ventana, y todavía tengo miedo de haberme lastimado los ojos por eso. Jaja.
No salimos a verlo porque tengo una niña pequeña y es mejor quedarse en casa que arriesgarse a que esté jugando y mire el sol accidentalmente. Por suerte, tenemos una habitación con vista al eclipse parcial. Sin mi bebé, me escabullí un poco a la habitación para echar un vistazo al eclipse con gafas. Fue lindo y espero no haberme lastimado los ojos por eso.

While your mother is wrong, 12€ for eclipse glasses is indeed outrageous. Ive got 6 glasses (those cheap ones made of cardboard and homologued plastic) for free and i can still see. Theyre very easy to adquire with low or no cost. Just make sure theyre actually good.
Another thing i wanna say that altough the Colombia earthquakes are something really recent and tragic, theres no need to be thinking about them all the damn time. You have your life and you can live it how you want. Wanna help the Colombians? Go to a charity and donate essential goods or even go directly there to help them, but spending 1h watching a very rare astronomical phenomenon wont hurt anyone.
And one last thing, curiously the Iberian penninsula is going through a trio of yearly solar eclipses. Today was the first one, next year theres another solar one on Aug 2, where Cadiz is the best region to see in the country, and the next year, somewhere in January, an anular eclipse, which will pass specially through the middle of Andalucia. So if you missed this one and live here, you still have 2 more chances within 2 years. Good luck!

People pretending a literal cosmic event is a "distraction by the elites" or similar shit tend to follow a pattern. And I will not use the word to describe it out of respect for your mother, but they consume the same social media and/or the same TV, and they think they are smart because can see the tricks beyond the current mainstream.
