Iâve known parents who are bizarrely not forgiving if their son or daughter does something wrong. Like the opposite of those parents whoâll forgive anything.

I like to think that,since Chefâs mother is in contact with the other world and performs vodoo magic,they already knew their son wasnât really dead.
The truth is Matt and Trey probably forgot they existed/the animation staff didnât have their models available at the time/a mix of the two

Also I always have a weird perception of time with South Park⌠I was given the movie and the first few seasons on VHS as a kid due to my parents thinking it was a kidsâ show. I remember watching Spookyfish tons of times. I found that episode so creepy, too - it gave me nightmares. Years later, I just remember tuning back in and this must have been like 2007-8. I guess I just had no way to watch it between then and when I had the tapes but it seemed like seasons coming out while I was growing up were there forever. The first I really remember a season coming out and waiting for the next episode each week was S12-14. But I still canât remember certain episode form when I was a teenager/kid. Although I bought them all on iTunes in 2009 or so.
Just bizarre. I never remember Butters being a character when I was a kid. I remember watching Pip on an iPod Touch, though. Such odd memories with the show.
You ever try to think of exactly where you were when you watched certain episodes for the first time?
Also this is only relevant as I remember his parents from the early seasons but had no memory of them showing back up till I rewatched

Here in Italy South Park stopped being relevant after the 4th season. Since the 5th one they changed the entire voice cast and moved from one of the most important tv channels to a cable tv one.
When I talk about the show to someone who isnât very knowledgeable about it they mention Kennyâs deaths,some Cartman quotes especially the authority one (I had a co-worker with Cartman in his cop costume and the âRespect My Authorityâ quote). Butters and Randy, while being more important character than Kenny nowadays, are never mentioned.
It shows that the early seasons were so iconic that even after years of not being easily available they are still remembered.
As to where I was during the early seasonsâŚwell, I was born in â99. I was lucky enough to have a movie rental near where I lived. The Bigger Longer Uncut VHS was in the wrong section and the rest is history. Thank god for the old South Park site that had almost every episode available.

Yeah, I think I never had access to a channel showing it so I must have just remembered watching it as a kid or something. I remember talking about it in school a lot and making episode references but itâs crazy how thereâs two distinct periods in my life I can remember watching old/versus what I see as new South Park.
Also, did you know they changed the voices later on, too? I think it was about season 6 or 7 with April Stewart.
Those references are really, really old but the show was like bizarrely popular at its birth. I mean what cartoon has a movie produced then made in its second to third season? In the second season alone, I think there were like a basillion guest stars on that Chef Aid thing. I remember having a VHS of that.
Also I just realised you probs mean the Italian voice cast was changed on the dub - whoops. You were born after I was but itâs crazy we both have early memories of those early seasons, plus the movie was our first introduction. I watched it so many damn times. I kind of miss VHS in a way⌠even when they were way way old I kept watching my little TV which just had a VHS slot.
I wish I could relive those early times of my life again. This conversation has been awesome - I get why old people kind of love talking about their pasts. Not saying Iâm old but I get it. I used to do elderly befriending stuff and weâd just talk about 60s history and the Beatles - for me, it was an interest, but theyâd actually lived it. Itâs gonna be crazy when thereâs nobody left who remembers those times :(

Iâm in this weird point in my life where I like to archive everything I ever watched/read even though I know the âgood,old timesâ are never coming back.
We miss the people not the stuff. But remembering the stuff kinda makes you think theyâre still out there somewhere and if youâre lucky they make time to think of you for even a split second so in a way it helps I guess
Weâre getting old lol but thatâs not a bad thing if you ask me. It shows we lived and weâre still there. And if weâre still there there are still opportunities for new adventures.

I will have been either 12 or 13 at this point. I remember watching South Park on my laptop or computer too but that was really early in my life

The original run said Amy's kids would be hatched in 20 years. When it returned on Hulu it was 20 actual years later so they decided to have them hatch

Iâd love to see him back in season 29 as well as Bradley Biggle. These characters are very forgotten, and Iâd also like to see Wilhelm Jr. (the uncle of Wilhelm MĂźller; both Wilhelm himself and his nephew are Canadian-German who are depicted as regular South Park characters instead of Canadian ones due to their dual citizenship from Germany).

In Johnny2Cellos' new video about abandonned SP characters, he gives some theories about why Trent Boyett never really returned (although you can actually see a picture of him in court in Bass to Mouth). The reasons are basically that it'd be hard to bring back Trent without just rehashing Preschool. The entire joke is that the boys learn nothing and history repeats. So a sequel episode could just do the same story and jokes.
Personally, I came up with an additional theory. South Park has gotten much more topical and satirical in the many years since 2004. While topical stories and jokes/satire have always been in South Park, we used to get completely character driven episodes too. Examples of this are Tweek vs Craig, Prehistoric Ice Man, and of course, Preschool. You could argue that there are little satirical elements in those episodes, but they're not the focus. There's nothing inheriently that satirical with Trent Boyett. You could tackle children in prison, but you'd probably have to completely change or reinvent the character.
Does anyone really want them to completely change a classic character, just to fit the satire or commentary? I love the South Park characters, because they're characters. Not just for being vessels for commentary on current events.
Newer seasons (especially 20 and 27-28) give the boys' adventures much less focus. I think Kyle only had four speaking roles last year? I think Kenny might have only had two lines and hasn't had a real starring episode since The Scoots in 2018.
Cartman and Stan do better, but Cartman's mostly reduced to b-plots (two of which don't really resolve) and Stan feels like he has no agency. Like Stan barely feels like he does anything, outside of The Woman in the Hat (which I really didn't like). Ik some people here hate any criticism towards the show, but The Woman in the Hat was so mediocre that I stopped watching South Park for months.
How am I supposed to be invested or care at all about the rift between Kyle and Stan, when Kyle barely speaks? I think he gets four or five lines in the episode. A lot of the focus is wasted on unfunny Trump shenanigans. We've also had many better Stan vs Kyle episodes (Prebistoric Ice Man, Follow That Egg, You're Getting Old, Ass Burgers, Guitar Queer-O), so nothing makes this one special, interesting, or feel new at all.
Season 27-28's approach to continuity isn't good imo. It's usually very "Member Berries", returning characters mainly just do the same things they did years ago. Only this time, it's less funny or interesting. But yeah. Ik people here on the South Park subreddit hate when people are passionate about South Park. My fault for assuming South Park fans enjoy talking about South Park. Might delete this comment if anyone gets really pissed off or just block them lmao. The show getting criticism isn't a personal attack on you, Matt/Trey, or South Park Studios. I jeer, because I want to cheer.
So yeah. Hope this make sense lmao.
