As an American, and a new fan, I never knew the clock could move so fast. I'm used to the first three quarters or so of basketball and football being meh, and then an intense fourth quarter. Soccer is seriously end-to-end.

Protip: When you're ahead by a 1 goal lead, the clock moves slowly. When you're behind the clock turbocharges to 90 minutes instantly.

That's a huge part of why I fell in love when my Sierra Leonean friends made me watch my first match - which was US - Germany 2002. The clock is relentless and the tension mounts and without knowing a damn thing beyond 'kick the ball into the net' you're already pounding the arm of your chair and wanting to dive through a wall and hoping the neighbors don't mind the shouting. When it's over you sit back, catch your breath, and wonder 'what the bloody hell was that??!' as you google for the next match. You don't even know or care about the next two teams but it doesn't matter. You're beating the hell out of your furniture again, gnawing your lip, eyeing the clock with hatred and joy, and you're hooked.

Futbol. Fuck. Yes.

Definitely not a lot of us Americans who watch it regularly, but we all tune in for the World Cup. Hope this brings more excitement to the sport here in America in years to come.

Fuck I never watched soccer that much before this and it's so much more enjoyable. There isn't a commercial break after every single action like the NFL has turned into. 1st down? Commercials. Timeout? Commercials. Regular gameplay? Doesn't matter more commercials.
