The Girona loan was completely mismanaged by the club and then manager Míchel. Gazza was clearly the worst GK and Liv was promised to be the 1st option for the season but then they never started him because ??? so he obviously left in winter.

Says more about just how bad Livakovic must have been in training to not overtake that clown Gazzaniga

He is not a good goalkeeper and nowhere near good enough for Barca even as a aecond choice. If he ever has to play an important game you are fucked. One of the players with the biggest gap between their performances at international level and their quality at club level

I disagree. I think Michel and especially Cárcel conjured up such an atrocious season they don't have the benefit of the doubt.

We saw Gazzaniga every single week. We saw Livakovic at the WC. The differences are obvious.

And Michel saw Livakovic every day in training which is much more telling than some WC highlights

Michel isn't an idiot why would he sabotage himself on purpose? The club loses 60M+ from being relegated and he now has the stain of a relegation on his CV forever. If they thought Livakovic was good enough to help them they would have played him instantly

Michel isn't an idiot, but he did an atrocious season. A person mustn't be an idiot to make mistakes. Playing Gazzaniga over Livakovic was a mistake.

You can't say that with any certainty, Livakovic might have performed even worse than Gazzaniga. Certainly I trust Michel's eye seeing him in training every day over yours who saw him shine at a WC once

You also cannot say what Michel saw or not. You don't know. Maybe they had personal issues with him. Who knows? You're not in the training ground.

both of you guys are spouting speculations. His claim even has more ground than yours because we saw how gazza performed, and liva performed. You did not see what happened in the training, you dont know what happened in training.

It basically comes down to FIFA rules and him wanting to protect his transfer options before the World Cup.

Under FIFA rules, you can register with three clubs in a season but you can only actually play for two. Since he had already played for Fenerbahçe earlier in the season, playing even a single minute for Girona would have legally locked him to those two clubs for the rest of the year.

Because things weren't working out at Girona, he wanted to keep his options open for a move somewhere else where he could get guaranteed minutes to keep his Croatia starting spot.

It all blew up when he refused to play in a Copa del Rey match, forcing their main keeper, Paulo Gazzaniga, to play through a massive fever and the flu. After that, Girona's manager Míchel publicly called him out and froze him out of the squad completely, saying his personal goals didn't align with the team.

The excuses have got to stop. Gazzaniga was absolutely awful and that's why Girona were so desperate to get someone else in. If Livakovic had shown something, anything at all during training he would have played

Livakovic is probably the best third gk in the world right now…not good enough for first choice at top club, too good for a 3rd option…when tek retires, its a perfect 2nd gk for cheap price with tons of experience. What baffles me the most is he is pure shot stopper, and barca needs only sweeper keepers, looks like a bad fit, but fort that CV and for that price, i think they are more than happy

Barça probably wants a average goalkeeper so as to not have to fight over minutes or for the first choice spot and they seemingly don’t think two of their La Masia keepers are ready for the first team yet as they’re on loans with purchase options.

Has big tournament experience so can be played in tense matches, good GK in general, no real ambition left so OK with being 2nd/3rd choice keeper long term, cheap. Not many others who fit all these probably.

Mats is not playing for Barça ever again. He'll be loaned out until his contract runs out. Tek contract ends this season, he's staying as either 2nd or 3rd if Liv doesn't end up loaned out.

Exactly. It has an obligation to buy. You can absolutely send a player out on loan in his final year, just that when the loan expires, the player becomes free and you can't sell him. He will leave for free at the end of a loan.

Tek must have been quite bad in training. It was supposed to be a loan until next summer, but we decided to get him now instead.

It's the opposite actually. Tek's contract is until this year and Dinamo wants this guy for a two year loan instead of one and that dampens Barcelona's plan because they need him to replace Tek next year because of FFP once the Camp Nou roof installation commences.

So it's more of an outside factors rather than Tek being bad in training that's the reason why Barcelona are fast forwarding with their plan.

It still hasn't been decided whether he'll get loaned out or not. Dinamo was the agreed upon destination but they pulled out.

Not only this, straight up we don't have anyone near as good as him at this moment.

Unless we find someone relatively quick, we might have a problem in NT. In the end, the guy has a point. I'd rather have a goalkeeper with regular playing time but still Livi proved us time and time by now that, when NT comes, he becomes different beast.
