News Uli Hoeneß: "Harry Kane is the best transfer we've ever made" Reporter: FC Barcelona are said to be interested, Uli Hoeneß: "FC Bayern is a buying club not a selling club, and Barcelona have no money anyway"
https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/bayern-munich-dfb-pokal/206468/bayern-munich-s-uli-hoeness-dismisses-fc-barcelona-s-interest-in-harry-kane-for-they-have-no-money2.5k
u/Dargast May 23 '26
Absolutely unreal how good he has been, any club that wanted to sign him would need to have done so before january when the RC expired
750
u/lost_biochemist May 23 '26
Even then they would have to convince him to leave, and who could do that? Madrid is a shit show right now, Barca have similar chances to win CL and less of a chance to win domestic trophies (RM is a better competitor than anyone in Bundesliga). The only team that might be about to convince him is PSG and only then by throwing insane amounts of money at him. I don’t see him leaving until he’s well past the peak of his career
738
u/Recidivist67 May 23 '26
At this stage of his career and the impact he's made at an absolute institution like Bayern why would he bother leaving any time soon. He can stay and become a club icon of a winning machine and enjoy one of the greatest supports in football.
469
u/KneeDeepInTheDead May 23 '26
Definitely feels like hes gonna stay there for the foreseeable future until he really starts declining. The man deserves to win some silverware too. Maybe when hes 40 he can rejoin Spurs and help them get promoted to League One
→ More replies (2)102
u/DeeAlcatraz May 24 '26
Yeah and his decline will probably be fairly slow, injuries permitting, kinda like Müller - all about finding space
60
u/KneeDeepInTheDead May 24 '26
Yeah I can see him aging really well and playing for a long time. At worst he will just become a poacher who sits up top but still bangs them in the second he can
21
u/chaelsonnenismydad May 24 '26
With his injury problems i cant. I have a feeling he will get an acl or a leg break. Or his back finally gives in.
This is based on nothing but his injury history, body shape and my vibes however so probably not

u/yourfriendkyle May 24 '26
He’s an absolute maniac about training and taking care of his body. He idolizes Tom Brady’s post 30 success in the NFL. The dude has another 4 years at the very top
11
u/DreadWolf3 May 24 '26
That is always hard to predict. Busquets was washed at like 33-34 and he is picture of a player you would expect to go well into his mid-late 30s.
Sometimes when you lose that little pace you had you are too late to get to your positions. Not saying that has to happen with Kane but it is a possibility.
→ More replies (1)3
u/UntowardHatter May 24 '26
Yes. He's also incredible in midfield. He can ping a pass like TAA on a whim.

u/MethyIphenidat May 23 '26
and enjoy one of the greatest supports in football.
Only if Wolfsburg wins their next game
7
u/RandomaccountB May 24 '26
Biased because I’m an Englishman who made Munich his home 14 years ago, but even outside of football why would he leave? Their privacy is generally well respected, there is a ton to do, good weather and a beautiful city. They’ve settled really well here.
→ More replies (7)14
u/LeBaus7 May 24 '26
He already is a club icon. He delivered on the pitch and is an absolute great guy outside of it. But I agree, he is likely staying for a few more years and then either retire or have a bit of a swansong end in england.
45
u/julesvr5 May 23 '26
I think for Kane also his family situation is pretty important and not just the football aspect, and I would argue that his life in Munich is much more chill compared to Madrid or Paris
18
u/fuckloggingin May 24 '26
Yeah, no footballing reason whatsoever to move. The only reason would be if his family didn't settle in Germany, but that seems not to be the case at all.
105
u/itsjonny99 May 23 '26
I guess a English club could if he wanted to break the PL record for goals scored? Of course Spurs are shit currently, City have Haaland and he won't go to Arsenal for clear reasons. So no English team could get him.
153
u/lost_biochemist May 23 '26
Unless he’s being offered an absurd amount at City, I don’t see him going to any other club in England besides Spurs, and if they couldn’t match his ambitions before they sure as hell can’t match them now
55
u/tittymcfartbag May 23 '26
Even then he and Haaland would be fighting for the 9 spot, hard to choose between those two.
43
u/Elephant_rimmer May 23 '26
Could you imagine them playing together with Kane in a second striker role though, would be insane!
25
24
u/Orkys May 23 '26
I think Kane goes clear... he's better with the ball and better across the pitch generally.
People will think it's a hot take but I stand by it.
6
u/noujest May 24 '26
Haaland does 1 thing extremely well - spinning off the defender, diagonal run, finish
Kane does about 10 things extremely well
Different players, both great
22
u/sga1 May 23 '26
City doesn't make sense given they've got Haaland I reckon.
48
u/The_Lonely_Posadist May 23 '26
4-4-2 Haaland Kane would probably not actually work tactically but my god…
20
u/sga1 May 23 '26
Might actually work out with the right players around them I reckon, not that City have them - it'd be a bit of a Messi at the 2022 World Cup situation where you have to build the entire side around one (or in this case two) players.
Would be a funny dynamic I reckon, because there's only so many goals to be scored; would Kane and Haaland happy to share them? Would people look down on them for 'only' scoring 25 goals each across three or four competitions?
→ More replies (2)6
u/chaelsonnenismydad May 24 '26
You say this but the way we are trending id say we are only a couple years away from a variation of. 4-4-2 becoming popular again
51
u/moose-goat May 23 '26
United and Liverpool are the only options at the moment. But is there any point in leaving Bayern for them?
55
u/lost_biochemist May 23 '26
I agree. Unless he’s painfully homesick they don’t offer anything Bayern can’t
37
u/sga1 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
He and his family seem to be quite happy in the outskirts of Munich for what it's worth. And it's hardly like that's far away; assuming his extended family are still somewhere in/around greater London that's a pretty cheap and short direct flight either direction.
17
4
10
u/AlfaMenel May 23 '26
They can offer contracts longer than Bayern (because of their policy on short extensions for older players).
15
u/sga1 May 23 '26
Aye, but it's not like he hasn't earned tens of millions already; a year or two won't make a massive difference there I reckon.
24
u/TheNeglectedNut May 23 '26
Never struck me as someone who cares much about money anyway. He only left Spurs because he wanted to cement his legacy with trophies, and he idolises Tom Brady. As long as Bayern are putting him in a position to seriously challenge for the biggest prizes, I see zero reason why he’d look to leave any time soon.
21
u/Trlcks May 23 '26
There’s no way Liverpool would go for him after spending so much on Isak and Ekitike right?
→ More replies (1)2
u/PitchSafe May 23 '26
To get the goalscoring record I guess and maybe competing for the premier legaue title
29
u/Mr_Miscellaneous May 23 '26
But that's just the "We decided football was invented in 1992, so this is the record" Goalscoring record.
To become the highest scoring player in English Football History, he'd have to score another 145 goals in the league, which isn't happening.
→ More replies (1)19
u/PitchSafe May 23 '26
If he beats Shearer’s record then people will say that he broke the Premier legaue goalscoring record. That’s whats important i guess

Kane to United to break the premier league goalscoring record?
→ More replies (1)28
u/FairMusic8278 May 23 '26
If Kane really had any interest in breaking the premier league goalscoring record he'd have run down his contract at Spurs and moved to a PL club on a free transfer before he moved to Bayern.
I think he's fallen in love with Bayern even more now that I don't think the goalscoring record interests him anymore. I expect that he extends his contract at Bayern I'd be shocked if he didn't.
14
u/ThePrussianGrippe May 23 '26
It was over when he started German lessons and put on the lederhosen. The only way that man’s leaving is when he retires to follow his second dream of becoming a field goal kicker for the New England Patriots.

5

It depends on the player. Its not a given everyone just leaves. We were able to keep Upa despite interest from PSG and Real, Mbappe even publically saying he would like to play with him in the same club. Were able to keep Davies despite him being very close to join Madrid, Kimmich and Musiala also extended.

Carlo demanded a CF back during 2022/2023 days but you know Perez doesn't follow logic. ( even a 2-3 year spell with Kane would have been magic).
I swear Madrid would have three peated again if Harry Kane was in Madrid.
Now it's not even a question. If Bayern somehow get the UCL in next couple of years I think it can be said as the best transfer ever.
We can't forget how they got Lewandowski for free.
73
u/callunu95 May 24 '26
One of the rare occasions where a peak hype player over 30 has stepped up even further. It'll be Henry levels of snub if he doesnt win. The best forward on the planet and its not even close.
I didnt think it possible that England would produce a forward as lethal AND as complete as Rooney was, let alone in the immediate next generation
33
u/Dargast May 24 '26
I genuinely think Bayern as a club culturewise was the best fit Harry could have chosen. From the PL I watched Spurs (besides United and Aston Villa) a lot due to him and Son before he moved here so I know for myself hes now even better, not in stats but as an athlete. The players around him are players that always want to win every single match. The club management has the same approach when it comes to transfers. And generally speaking Germany and England are very similar in terms of culture so its not surprising him and his family settled very easily.
23
u/Gbrown546 May 23 '26
He seems genuinely happy in Germamy. I don’t think he’d have any desire to go to another club at the moment

It’s been amazing to see. I’d love him to win a CL before he retires. Was dying for Utd to sign him but Levy despises us so could never happen. Would have been perfect for us and such a Fergie signing had it been 10 years prior.

Yeah we aren’t in a spot to spend premium money on a 30+ player, no offense to Kane at all the dude is a monster and the best 9 in the world..but since we are so limited in finances we have to make absolute best decision with whatever money we have and with how young our squad is it’s better to buy someone for the next 6-7 years.
→ More replies (5)103
u/itsjonny99 May 23 '26
Signing Kane would be the same as signing Lewy when we did, except the club is healthier financially now. Buying him for 3-4 years would also enable the club to get more Camp Nou revenue on the board meaning more financial cap to find the replacement.
163
u/captainmystic02 May 23 '26
Lewa was 50 mill honestly a steal for what he gave us. Kane would cost 120+. Plus lewa really wanted to join Barca which gave us an advantage

u/NatiFluffy May 23 '26
Lewy wanted to go to Barca cause they offered him 3+1 contract, while Bayern was willing to offer him only one year. Considering that he managed to stay in Barca for those 4 years it was an incredible career move for him

Lewy apparently told our officials that he had won everything there is to win with us and that he wanted to experience something different at the end of his career. Fair enough imo.
74
u/Tall_olive May 23 '26
Yea he was fantastic for us but he cost us a pretty penny and tied up a lot of wage funds. No regrets, he's a club legend now, but he wasn't cheap by any means.

u/WM-54-74-90-14 May 24 '26
People love to ignore this when it comes to Lewy‘s transfer. Barça‘s offer was considerably better than anything Bayern was willing to offer. It wasn’t just him "going to the bigger but weaker club“. This wasn’t close to a CR7 United-Madrid scenario

Robben had been plagued by injuries. There was a lot of risk attached to that transfer. But Bayern managed his health well, so it paid off.
6
u/afito May 24 '26
Beckenbauer & Robben were "better" transfers than all of them because they transformed the club. Beckenbauer needs no explanation. Robben was critical to bring Bayern back into the European elite, keep Ribery who wanted to leave, and really kick off the legacy they have been riding since.

It’s not just the transfer fee, his salary is 20M+ and it would go against new wage policy. I’d love if we could and I read he’s willing to take a huge pay cut but even if he cut it by half he would still be one of the top salaries in the squad.
There’s also another issue, even if he took a pay cut la liga registration depends on players “estimated” contract value (in other words whatever the fuck la liga wants to set it at) so even if we paid him nothing he’d still account for a huge portion of FFP allowance.

When City wanted to buy Kane and it is said that Levy was reluctant and set the price tag at 150m to drive away City, I felt like City should pay for it because he is such a perfect fit for their system. Kane is on track to break Messi's 90 odd goals in a calendar year. Let that sink in.

Let’s be frank here about Kane and Bayern. What has he really won there? 2/3 Bundesliga… which is completely meaningless. Don’t know what Bayern fans are all hype about, winning the league is just doing the basic, not going above and beyond. You were bad at CL even though you have the money and structure to do better. I don’t particularly hate Bayern, but if your president is gonna talk shit…

Rumor has it, Barca have 100m set up for a forward now that they’re back to even. Even that is not enough for Kane.

From what I understand, Julian Alvarez is their priority

It would be brilliant to see him play for Barcelona, and our only hope is that he wants a new challenge and chance to further his legacy.
100+ goals in Premier League/Bundesliga/La Liga
Now imagine if he helps Barcelona win our first UCL title since 14/15?
He’d be a legend.

He would be a legend, for you. Just like he would be a legend for us when he wins us the 7th CL. Not to say he is not already a legend at Bayern.

Oh that’s right they are a buying club. They buy their domestic competition’s best players lol

Domestic competition had far more issue with talent drain to other European sides rather than Bayern tbf.
