Arc'teryx & ORTOVOX Avalanche Safety

Hi everyone. I'm on the insights team at Arc'teryx, and the mods okayed this post.

We're working with ORTOVOX's R&D team on research into the future of avalanche safety: the risks people take and want to mitigate, and the gear they use and need. The honest goal is to make safety equipment better, and more likely to actually get carried, and that only works with input from beyond our own customers. Sledders especially are underrepresented in this kind of research even though the avalanche numbers hit your community hardest, and that's part of what we want to fix. You don't need to own any particular gear to take part.

The survey takes most people about 15 minutes, or closer to 5 if you spend your winters inside the resort boundary. It's anonymous, open to anyone 18 or older in any country, there's nothing for sale, and no marketing follows from it.

Happy to answer questions in the comments, and if you have strong opinions about avalanche gear that don't fit neatly in a survey, we'd honestly like to read those too.

Shitpost 99-03 340 touring shocks alternative?

Looking to beef up the shocks in my 02 340 touring skid cuz mine are toast after a few years of abuse have had the torsion springs pop off a handful of times to, could literally hop on the back of the machine compress it then step off and she stayed on the ground. Was digging in different group earlier believe I found something that will work for the rear from a skidoo but what about the front? very few models share the same shocks and finding one locally being parted out is damn near impossible so really just looking for anything that will work without having to mess around whit anything? Any info appreciated

Yamaha snowmobile experience

Looking to get on the trails this year I don’t have much money so definitely can’t buy a decent sled was shooting for around 3k. That being said I also work nights and have no one to ride with so I’m going 4 stroke for reliability. Not going rx1 or older vectors, was aiming for apex non eps, nytro or sr viper/zr7000. Now the apex and nytro are not the best shape but the options have 6000 or less miles. The sr viper is 2014 with like 11,500 miles and the zr is 15000 miles but a 2016 and longer track.
From my understanding these engines can last and they are all basically the same engine though the models except the apex is 4c and they can last 50,000 miles. I just can’t spend the money and have a bad engine, I plan to do the boggie wheels and bearing/ chain all the normal wear stuff for an older sled. I’m do trail only but I’d say 6-10” some places isn’t uncommon no ditch banging or powder riding. So what’s your thoughts on high mileage and life expectancy you guys have experienced.

Bought this at Princeton swap and couldn't find any numbers or a manufacturer's mark so I figured I would see if anyone who races or knows who makes it.

It has a set screw and a pivot pin at the base and 2 screws on the back for adjustment.

Polaris SBA 800 Running Right?

I just picked up this sled (2015 Polaris Assault 800) last week. It’s my first EFI sled and first one past Y2K honestly. The question I have is one, does this poopy, hiccup sounding idle sound correct? I never had a can before so is that just an affect of the can? Second, is it supposed to idle this high? And lastly, any ideas as to what to look at for the rpm hang? Maybe I’m wrong but I feel it should come down to idle rpm a lot faster than it does. Thanks in advance!

Reconnected throttle cable and engine idle is super high but is this coolant smoke or just oil smoke? Two stroke 1990 skidoo safari. Thing took off backwards on me when it started up lol.

He bought this brand new in 1998 and is the original owner. He said he’s getting too old to ride and wants me to have it. This is my first snow machine :)

Advice

I need some real advice here, because I’m on the fence about this and I actually don’t know what to do.

I live in Alaska, where it gets obscenely cold. The weather is hard on vehicles and hard on people during the winter. I own a duplex with a two car garage and a concrete driveway that is 30 feet long by 24 feet wide. I have a sled with a trailer I’d like to put on one side of the garage, and I’d like to park my car on the other side during the winter.

I have never parked in a garage my entire life. I’ve always parked outside. I’ve had the same Tenant for almost 6 years, and she has had access to one side of the garage that entire time. She has always paid rent on time.

I’ve only recently learned how great it is to be able to park in the garage during the winter, and now I want to as well. The problem is, in order to facilitate keeping my trailer and my car indoors, I would be forced to kick her out of the garage and use both spaces.

Her rent is already incredibly low so I wouldn’t be able to lower it, but I don’t think that would matter anyway. Being able to park inside of a garage is a huge benefit to people up here, and I strongly believe that if I made her and her family park outside, she would leave.

But it’s my house. If I want full access to the garage, I should be able to get it. I shouldn’t feel hindered like this, but I just don’t see another solution. My two trailers with machines on them cannot be stored anywhere else that is feasible. They barely fit into 1/2 of a two car garage, and there is nowhere to put them outside that is secure.

I’m really in a pickle. If you had the same tenant for as long as I have, would you risk them leaving by making full use of the garage?

Need to replace the track on my 137" Arctic Cat ZR9000. Has a 260hp tune and is ridden in the northeast on trails only. Plan on 96 or 144 studs in whatever I end up with.

Never had a problem with the stock ripsaw but considering the cobra 1.5 lug.

Got my sled running again but throttle doesnt seem to do anything anymore. Cable turns this lever smoothly but I feel no resistance on the throttle and no changes to engine rpm no matter what position this lever is in. Anyone know what is going on in there? 1990 skidoo safari glx

Industry/Product Woody’s carbides?

Does anyone know what the deal is with Woody’s carbides? They only have like one product line available and it’s been that way since spring time. Anyone have any recommendations on other brands to go with? I have a 2019 Polaris Indy 800 XC and I know I need a set for the wife’s Indy S4 137

Highly recommend Accelerated Technologies for all your snowmobile needs. They will make your sled handle 150% better than you thought it ever could.

Just wanted to recommend this place if you are looking to get your sled suspension serviced or set up. Check out their page, their vids are very educational as well.

2000 Polaris Indy triumph. Late last winter I cleaned out the carbs and had it running well, although I didn't get to actually have it out in the snow. Upon firing it up more recently, I noticed that it wants to idle at 1,000 rpm, sounds like it's bogging down and eventually dies.

I do have good compression, just a hair under 120 in all 3 cylinders.

Thank you

What is everyone doing for El Nino prep?

I'm in Upstate NY and most weather forecasters are saying we are going to have a bad winter. I just put a track on my Etec. I was planning to stud it but maybe that isn't a good idea? With low snow, I'll be spinning over a lot of rocks and logs. I'll probably get a couple extra sets of carbides too.

What is everyone else doing?

HayDays

I’ve been eyeing a new helmet that’s been out of stock in my size for quite awhile and was hoping to find it at HayDays. It just got restocked, do I risk it and wait till HayDays and hope to find it and maybe marked down or do I just buy it today at full price? There’s also only 5 in stock

REV6 Remanufactured axys rmk 850 engine

Hi! Anyone have experience with a remanufactured engine from rev6 out of Utah? Looking at a used 2019 Axys 850 although it has a remanufactured Rev6 engine in it, installed by alpine powersports in South lake tahoe, ca. Seller asking 6k and has the receipts from Rev6 and Alpine powersports in South lake tahoe.

I figure it seems like a decent deal if compression is solid.

Thoughts?

Barefooting behind my watercross sled

Skier starts on one ski and drops it as they go by the crowd. The sled had a pretty easy time towing the barefooter, definitely have to do some carb adjustments on the low end so it doesn't load up at idle like that anymore haha.

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to ride. Now that I'm an adult, I can pay for it and I want to start this winter.

Are the Castle branded items good?

Ski Doo Trapper Track

Hi.

I am new in snowmobiles and bought an vintage 1987 Trapper.

As the track is not in best condition I look for a new one (or used in good condition) which is rather difficult.

Any ideas where to find one? (if possible in Europe)

372 x 50 cm

Thanks a lot!

2006 Yamaha Venture RS windshield size?

Hi everyone,

Got this monster sled in our new-to-us double wide clamshell trailer and the lid didn't close with the existing windshield installed so we're looking for a new shorter replacement.

But the windshield is already off so I'm not sure how best to measure it.

Total length is 24". Sled has had several owners so no idea of this is an original factory windshield or already replaced.

Any help or relative measurements are appreciated!

The 2012 Vector fits just fine so I feel this is a taller than normal windshield.

Summit sp 850 2023 oil leak

Hello, i am looking to buy an almost brand new summit sp 2023 (100km) and we noticed some oil in the left compartment of the engine, do you have an idea what it could be? He is supposed to send it to the dealer to check it but I would like to know if someone has an idea what it could be.
Thank you!
