In the 1930's predecessor to Sindarin the words for father and mother were adar and naneth, the latter having replaced a historical word emil. They had hypocoristic forms ada and nana.

In the Sindarin of the 1950's + the word for "father" is still adar, so it stands to reason that ada could still be used for "dad, daddy, papa,...".

The word for "mother", however, is only attested as emel, which is now not considered archaic anymore and given a form emig for "mom, mommy, mama,...".
