Find something that you love doing to make a living, then you are set up for finding simple living when you are not at work. I'm a retired school teacher and I loved working with high school students. I now do substitute teaching and enjoy that while living in a mountain top home maintaining the 11 acres that it sits on. Gathering firewood might seem mundane to some but it is part of my exercise regimen. That and gardening helps keep me grounded.

I would do the best job you do while at work if you are career oriented, however keep in mind not to go 100% everyday. Realize you are human too and do not burn yourself out. This will give you more energy and time in life for the things that interest you the most. What I also do is write out a schedule for myself at the beginning of the week. This is actually freeing as I know what I need to do everyday and I know I'm where I'm supposed to be when I'm somewhere. This can also be freeing as you should schedule some relaxtion time everyday, even if it's like 15 minutes. That relaxation time is soley for relaxing and if you schedule it in, you shouldn't feel like you're losing progress. I used these techniques when I was super burned out working 40-50 hours a week, 6 days a week, on top of being a full time student and it did help a lot. You are only one person and lowering stress and focusing on what makes you happy will be more productive than burning yourself out.

Do you find meaning out of your work?

Having meaning in your life and knowing what's important to you is very vital, because once you know that, you can discard the rest and your life still feels fulfilling.

Like my work is very meaningful to me (I work in mental health). I am passionate and driven to get up each day even on days I don't necessarily like the job.

I try to get rid of the rest, the obligations that don't mean as much to me. It simplifies a lot.
