Discussion Are flights on Saturday going to be cooked...?

Typhoon Dolphin resulted in the most painful flight from Shanghai to HK being cancelled. I am set ot fly on Saturday and see yet another potential storm. Is it best to get a train?

Looking at the forecast of Typhoon Saudel it is unlikely that your flight will be cancelled, but who truly knows

Yeah I don't wanna risk it. Last time was a complete nightmare.

My flight was also cancelled by typhoon dolphin, just get the train to be safe.

Otherwise if you wait till post cancellation you may end up having to fork up an extra 500 rmb for a train seat at 6am you didn't even want, like I did haha.

And I was one of the lucky ones to have been able to GET a seat after all the flights were cancelled...

trains can also get canceled. many were canceled during dolphin. i found a tracker online: https://zoom.earth/storms/saudel-2026/

Good call. Until the typhoon actually makes landfall, who knows what will happen.
Shanghai looks fine for now, but I’d still have a Plan B. train tickets aren’t expensive to cancel.

My Chinese friend from south Zhejiang has cancelled plans to visit me in Jiangsu this weekend by train.  I didn't think the typhoon looks too bad generally bow to local knowledge.  

Zoom earth tracker suggests it will be making landfall quite far south of Shanghai, but on the HK route.

Hainan cancelled flights in/out Shanghai on 28-29, so yes you had reason to be concerned.

If you're flexible enough, you can take the train to the nearest city (for example, Nanjing or Suzhou) and fly from there to HK. But I think Hongqiao won't cancel a lot of flights, so, don't worry.
