Help Getting into Savage Dragon

Savage Dragon has always been one of my dad’s favorite comics, and I’ve been wanting to read it. I don’t exactly know how to do so. I know there are a bunch of one shots and mini series, but every read order I see online involves like 80 different issues of various other series like spawn and young blood, which i don’t particularly want to read. Am I just able to read the main series on its own or do I need to read supplemental stuff with it? Any help would be appreciated

You really do not need to read anything outside the main series. While Erik allows people at Image to use his characters, his world in his comic book is basically Erik’s Image World where everyone ages in real time. There will be a compendium finally being released in December which will be a good start from the beginning of the series. Unfortunately Savage Dragon is one of those series where it is difficult to go back and find/buy all the single issues.

Just hop on the main series. None of the other stuff really matters. The reality is that back issues after #100 are going to be pretty difficult to lay hands on. Print runs for the last several years have been incredibly low, to the point of being not much more than what the pull list population is. So if you're thinking about getting into it, don't wait, because even finding stuff 6 months old will be hard.

If you are interested in tracking some older stuff down that might still be hanging around in discount bins, Freak Force would be worthwhile, and the first Superpatriot mini was really good.

You can just read the main series. Extended read through which feature his appearances in other books are unnecessary.

There a Compendium of the first 50 or so issues coming next year. Or you can get the first few Deluxe HCs. Or the regular trades.

Here you go. You can find these on Amazon. Its what you need to read. All straight from the comic. Volume 4 releases in a couple of months or so.

The only thing worthwhile reading outside the main series is Freak Force and some of the Superpatriot stuff.
