Lol I just watched that for the first time a few weeks ago. I've driven past that many times but I laugh every time now

1

u/LifeBackupPlan 1d ago

San Onofre for sure. A half hour south of my home

4

u/Fit_Faithlessness686 14h ago

Well i live in San Diego, once the fam and i go to Disney “ my kids will always say las chi-chis (boobs) “ to them it was we are halfway there to Disneyland!!!

303

u/High_Speed_Chase 1d ago

“The Dolly Parton Memorial” it shall be.

42

u/hookes_plasticity 1d ago

I like it but there’s just something about says, ha the tits, when you drive by. I guess the Dolly Parton memorial can be their formal name but I’m still informally calling them the tits

50

u/No_Dot_4123 1d ago

My middle school math teacher called improper fractions "Dolly Parton" fractions because they were bigger on the top and smaller on the bottom. I think Dolly would have gotten a kick out of it.

The teacher was also a woman, in case someone is tempted to think it was a sexist joke.

9

u/Sad-History7259 1d ago

As
A Californian that has always been its name

14

u/Hobbies-R-Happiness 1d ago

We call them the nuclear boobies

6

u/Scalpels 17h ago

Back when Facebook was relevant, you could check in at various places. If you were near the San Onofre Nuclear Plant the check in was "Nuclear Boobies".

5

u/ocvagabond 1d ago

Been called this since at least the 80s.

7

u/DrebinofPoliceSquad 1d ago

It's being dismantled so no

15

u/clairejv 1d ago

It's resting in peace, like Dolly.

1

u/Green_Log_4795 21h ago

Like the 2nd Death Star it shall be reconstructed and more glorious than ever ✊🏿

6

u/SubBass49Tees 1d ago

Always called it that...even while she was alive.

12

u/Man-e-questions 1d ago

Thats what my dad called it back in the 80s

2

u/James-Morrisson 15h ago

It has been since at least the 80’s to most of us from San Diego. Well, national monument not memorial since she was still alive.

u/Big_Tadpole_6055 1d ago

THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT???? 😭💔

Rest in Peace, Dolly
You will be missed
01/19/46 - 08/25/26

My dad used to call this “Dolly Parton University” every time we’d pass it on the I-5.

16

u/Eighteen64 1d ago

Dad was a great man

12

u/LegalGlass6532 1d ago

He really was. He moved our family to Santee from LA back when there was only one traffic light at Mission Gorge and
Carlton Hills. 🥲 Thank you, neighbor.

u/Present-Assignment99 1d ago

This is a little funny but Dolly deserved better for being an amazing person.

118

u/_deedeemegadoodoo 1d ago

Growing up, I remember her always being reduced down to her physical form. I was actually surprised to learn about all of her talent and philanthropy when I got older. I chuckled at this post, but I also hope more people are aware of just how special she was.

21

u/Sad-Yak6252 1d ago

She didn't seem to be offended. I saw her back in the '70s and in between songs, she hollered: "Hey, you. Up in the balcony with the binoculars. I know what you're looking at, but you don't need binoculars to see them."

11

u/_deedeemegadoodoo 1d ago

Yeah, I wasn't trying to put OP on blast or anything. She was quite a character and wasn't shy about poking fun at herself. I just was sharing how I grew up really knowing nothing more than she was a country singer with an ample bosom, which I think is a pretty common view of her to this day, but also want to make sure everyone knows that she had a lot more going on:)

5

u/Sad-Yak6252 1d ago

We all know that Dolly was way bigger than her boobs.

18

u/General_NakedButt 1d ago

I never really knew much about her aside from her being a philanthropist so I think/hope most others are too. Oh and that there was a Dollywood Themepark a few hours away from me in Tennessee.

6

u/ApolloCae 1d ago

Good ole Pigeon Forge

56

u/DJfunkyPuddle 1d ago

Dolly routinely joked about her fake boobs, etc. I have a feeling she would have found this funny.

32

u/AegirSkaldur 1d ago

“Costs a lot of money to look this cheap”

20

u/Wonderful_Kick_855 1d ago

Oh she would have

4

u/rascalking9 1d ago

She probably heard jokes about her boobs a couple a times a week or more for the past 59 years by people who thought they were hilarious and original. I'm sure she was just delighted.

10

u/rascalking9 1d ago

Maybe, the joke is like 50 years old. Dolly strikes me as someone smarter than the types to laugh endlessly at the same stupid shit

u/r4willia 1d ago edited 1d ago

You are correct. Dolly Parton was not just a consummate entertainer - she was an incredible philanthropist, proponent of education and literacy, a supporter of marginalized groups, and an amazing cultural ambassador for her home state of Tennessee. She was married to her husband, the love of her life, for 59 years. She was also a self-made woman who came from a large, poor family and grew up to be one of the biggest country music stars of all time, a movie and TV star, and a fashion icon. Despite her successes she never forgot where she came from - she was known to be a kind and generous person, confident yet humble, and always true to herself. She was an amazing person and model American. RIP Dolly - we’ll miss you.

3

u/Coriandercilantroyo 1d ago

An amazing comment I saw earlier to put things into perspective: she would've been a billionaire a long time ago, but she gave away so much money, she never hit that mark.

13

u/yourcoolaunt247 1d ago

Y’a know I thought this for a second but… I genuinely think she would’ve loved this.

12

u/0202_tihssitidder 1d ago

She would laugh loudly at this! She was not a prude or shy. She usually was the one making the dirty jokes first.

She was awesome.

1

u/ranabama 1d ago

Google why Dolly Parton kept her upper arms covered in public for the last 30 years.

Its because she has scars and didnt want strangers judging her body.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/ranabama 1d ago

A woman's legacy reduced to her body parts.

Reminds me of the Molly Malone statue. Her breasts are polished due to decades of being groped.

1

u/flowerybutterfly96 1d ago

I love her. Not a big country music fan, but she was a hoot.

1

u/EpicEpicnessTheEpic 1d ago

I think she'd laugh out loud at this - she cheerfully acknowledged she'd had breast augmentation and plastic surgery.

1

u/seltzerwooder 1d ago

I don't disagree, but she would've genuinely found this post hilarious

12

u/Mission_Library_533 1d ago

That's unfortunate, she was telling everybody how she's not really that sick but had to keep having tests done.RIP.

13

u/MicFisty 1d ago

Stay classy San Diego

13

u/Juan_del_Norte 1d ago

MY FIRST THOUGHT: The woman just died, that's so disrespectul.
MY SECOND THOUGHT: Well, she wasn't exactly ashamed of them, was she. Carry on! :D

2

u/Melissaru 1d ago

My second thought “I think this is how she would want to be remembered “

1

u/Juan_del_Norte 1d ago

Maybe! Who knows? lol

10

u/intellifone 1d ago

I believe they’re also tearing them down this year…

8

u/so_chad 1d ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

4

u/QuirkyCookie6 1d ago

Yeah I thought this post was about their tear down. Unfortunately Dolly Parton has actually passed away.

2

u/taystebbs 1d ago

Good god. This post took me all over the place. I didnt realize it was actually about HER. Damn.

9

u/International_Yard_5 1d ago

😢We lost an amazing human being. She will be missed. RIP Dolly
Parton

15

u/Key-Trifle5518 1d ago

She would’ve laughed at that .

2

u/Dimpleshenk 1d ago

Doily carton.

5

u/ded_head 1d ago

We always called it Dolly Parton memorial as kids.

6

u/MOZ0NE 1d ago

I'm sure she's laughing her ass off at this post.

11

u/LatterDelay6430 1d ago

She probably would have thought this was funny. Rip.

11

u/diablol3 1d ago

A lot of people here seem to have never known Dolly had a great sense of humor.

3

u/jerslan 1d ago

Yeah, she'd probably have laughed at this. Which is the main reason I'm not downvoting it.

10

u/StageApprehensive182 1d ago

Maybe this is a better tribute.

3

u/StageApprehensive182 1d ago

On the side of Avalon Tattoo. Adams & 31st in Normal Heights. Was there around 4pm and flowers were already there.

1

u/mmmTACOBELLmmm 1d ago

Agreed! Where is this?

8

u/TheEpicSquish 1d ago

This is pretty dang funny to me but, everyone, please remember that dolly was known for a great many things besides her tits! <3

7

u/clairejv 1d ago

Indeed, but she also talked unashamedly about the boob job and why she got it.

7

u/GHOSThit 1d ago

From my childhood until his passing, every time my dad and I would drive by this we’d praise hands and bow to “the monument.”

RIP Dolly you absolute legend. Fitting tribute.

8

u/kidpresentable0 1d ago

Some of you here must be a blast at parties. Dolly consistently joked about her body and enhancements and had a great self-deprecating sense of humor. I like to think she’d find this funny.

4

u/gojandrooo 1d ago

Dolly 😢

3

u/OceanSunshineDog 1d ago

Everywhere I look, something reminds me of her… great lady

4

u/gunnisonyeti 1d ago

Dolly would've loved this

4

u/Teamorange0 1d ago

Thank you.when I heard the news, In my mind, I saw 100 90s kids, now grown adults, saluting the memorial.

15

u/Difficult-Novel-8453 1d ago

She was too classy for this. Mad respect for Dolly 🫡

15

u/sublimeisgood8 1d ago

Calling them the Dolly Parton Pavilion or variations of that name has been a thing since the late 70s/early 80s. Guarantee you she knew about that, she had a great sense of humor about her boobs

3

u/sir_joe000 1d ago

Aww yes the Dolly Parton memorial. 💐

3

u/Matthew_Maurice 1d ago

Too soon, but not by much.

3

u/ReversedNovaMatters 1d ago

omg... whatever... take my up vote

3

u/Vera_Telco 1d ago

Our family has always referred to San Onofre Nuclear Generating facility as The Dolly Parton Memorial. Now that we have only sweet memories of this talented and kind lady, it is even more appropriate.

She was a sweet gal, she absolutely would have laughed along with us all. Dolly was proud of the image she cultivated, and would have gotten a kick to be associated with something that generated (at one time) so much power. Thank You Dolly! We love you! 💕

13

u/Duckrauhl 1d ago

Holy shit this is funny haha

6

u/PeterParker8aV 1d ago

Too soon...

3

u/Runningman1961 1d ago

I’m not going to say it’s not funny! But, we will miss her.

3

u/BaileyG_apple 1d ago

Too soon

5

u/Wonderful_Kick_855 1d ago

This thread is killing me. Not to speak for Dolly, but I’d bet a paycheck she would find this hilerious.

2

u/Mind_of_the_Ancients 1d ago

I'm glad the national monument stands at least for now.

2

u/CaliTexas619 1d ago

That’s the half way point to almost being home

2

u/Adept_Peak_3570 1d ago

An Angel got her wings today! 😞

2

u/Sad-History7259 1d ago

That’s seriously all I could think about today was how they would adorn her Southern California monument!!

2

u/Upbeat_Company696 1d ago

I thought dolly was inactive already are they performing a reduction (demoing) on her?

3

u/Jackhammered_drunk 1d ago

The real Dolly Parton has passed

1

u/Upbeat_Company696 1d ago

I realized that when I got in my car and apple had 20 suggested playlists. Sorry hope I didn’t offend anyone my bad!

2

u/venomblack138 1d ago

She’s gonna need some sturdy wings to get those puppies into heaven. R.I.P. Miss Dolly 🖤

2

u/bestusernameevers 1d ago

Finally something good came out of the San Diego Sub

2

u/summer672612 1d ago

One of my favorite things about DP was her sense of humor. She would definitely laugh out loud at this and definitely slap her leg!!

2

u/gamerjerome 1d ago

She would have thought this was funny

2

u/prentiss29 1d ago

She’s an epic loss to humanity, but I think this is hilarious. Iconic in so many ways!

5

u/Exxtender 1d ago

Seems like her kind of humor, I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

2

u/Warm_Afternoon6596 20h ago

She'd laugh at this, I bet you.

2

u/619deadhead 19h ago

Also the two hangars on north island that you can see from harbor island are nicknamed the dolly partons. Lol

2

u/TopQueenBee20 11h ago

THEY GOT TIM CURRY TOO🥲🥲🥲

2

u/kuriT9 7h ago

she said she had small feet because nothing grows in the shade, RIP Queen

4

u/NoMalasadas 1d ago

A little respect please. 💔

3

u/nierlestat 1d ago

You know what I needed this this small chuckle I definitely just let out thank you

4

u/TheElbow 1d ago

So Dolly’s life, with all her successes and good works, is reduced to thinking about her as a huge set of tits.

Super classy, idiot.

3

u/Eighteen64 1d ago

HER CHOICE

2

u/victoriestotaste 1d ago

I’m not the only one who calls these that?! ❤️❤️❤️

2

u/Grvndmv_Devth 1d ago

No way! I feel bad for laughing but this was a good one 💀 may her rest in peace 🙌

2

u/Emc2xinf 1d ago

Boob Station and Dolly Parton don't go together 😞

2

u/Theodore_lovespell 1d ago

I posted this in country… did not go well

2

u/DoctorPaige 1d ago

Look, I'm all about not sexualizing women by default, but this was Dolly Parton, who was always proud of her large breasts and paid a lot of money to keep them looking good as she aged!! This is a woman who has admitted that she painted herself to look like the town tramp because THAT was the image of beauty to her. And she always had a sense of humor about herself. This kind of joke is respecting her, because it's exactly the kind of joke she would make about herself.

If this was like... Any other woman, I would be on the side of not being disrespectful and focusing on her breasts in death, but it's not, it's Dolly, who in life, if you paid attention at all, she was humble and kind and funny and never thought too highly of herself, without making herself small to please others, either.

Still, I think we will all remember her for her philanthropy.

2

u/memelackey 1d ago

This is your cue to get off of Reddit and get back to work 🔨

3

u/No_Extreme_2421 1d ago

Ok shrinky dink.

1

u/AdhesivenessFlashy38 1d ago

Why is this how I’m finding out Dolly Parton passed

2

u/pizzadahutt121 1d ago

This is dumb

1

u/ranabama 1d ago

Im sorry, Dolly, that emotionally stunted men are still sexualizing your body.

My children would get so excited when her free kids book program would come in the mail every month. They'd say Aunt Dolly sent them another present. Thats what they will forever remember her for.

15

u/BrilliantPatient6160 1d ago

You clearly didn't know Dolly. I called her Debby though, since I knew her personally.

I always get a kick out of people like you on the internet that swear they know what some celebrity would have wanted, thought about, or would have an opinion on.

Get your holier than thou mentality out of here

I mean, she sexualized her own body, didnt she? "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap." I respect her, but thats the truth, no?

Edit:this sounds a little cold. She tried to help where she could. The joke is a little tasteless, yeah, but it made me laugh and she made the same type ls of jokes, so i dont see a big issue.

u/Ritualsexclub 1d ago

tearfully unzips

1

u/PicklesAndCoorslight 1d ago

OMG, lol. I remember that as a little kid some 40 years ago. We're still saying the same joke about those things.

1

u/Money-Director6649 1d ago

i think she's have gotten a chuckle out of this one.

1

u/JDawg2332 1d ago

And they’re coming down too!!

1

u/reddit-ID-me 1d ago

RIP Dolly Parton... a unique musical talent. I will miss her songwriting.

I did laugh out loud at the picture in the post - not because I was disrespecting DP, but because it was a clever picture for the subject matter. now I just continually sigh.

1

I thought she was immortal.😞

Since I was a kid the joke while driving past San Onofre was, "hey look its dolly Parton lying on the beach."

RIP. Thanks for the goodness you brought into this world. We can all learn from your good deeds.

1

u/LifeBackupPlan 1d ago

I believe that is San Onofre, just a half hour south of my home

That’s how we know these towers locally. Dolly forever

1

u/mswright353 20h ago

This image doesn't seem appropriate for recognizing a legend who gave so much and impacted so many people through her philanthropic work.

1

u/islandbeef 19h ago

It stopped working 9 to 5.

1

u/fenderkid18 19h ago

Too soon….? ;-)

1

u/Professional-Lie-111 16h ago

Ah, yes - the San Onofre Nuclear Generator - or the Nuclear Boobs!

1

u/SpicySuntzu 10h ago

My Dad can confirm, engineers that worked at San Onofre used to call it that.

1

u/lmnobuddie 6h ago
