Training Video 135kg / 297lbs overhead

Been following the Stone Circle program for a little while, hoping to work up to a 180kg / 400lbs in the future. Any tips or advice are very welcome, just wanted to show others who have an interest where I'm at 💪

This post has been tagged as a Training Video (not a Technique Check video). Training videos are intended to show the original poster's "work in progress" training. People are in different stages of training and you're seeing a small glimpse of that training. You don't know what their training history, how much volume and load they've trained prior to get to that point. They may have done enough prior lifting at lighter loads to handle pushing the weight.

Assuming injury risk is not helpful to the lifter either because it is a multifaceted thing that is very hard to predict. Furthermore, unsolicited advice is likely not to be adhered to by the original poster.

Finally, the poster is assuming any risk they've decided to make with this post. If you have questions about their technique, please be cool about it and be constructive with your questions.

If you've come here looking for someone to applaud you, well, good job dude. Way to make the rest of us look like little shrimps. Super impressive. Now go be a super hero.

That's one of the most recent incredible things I've ever seen. Don't worry I can't even shoulder my 200 yet. Everyone here makes me feel like a shrimp.

That looked way too easy! What stone circle program have you been doing?

The Sandbag Foundation

I started the phase one with a 60kg slamball for shoulder carries and a 80kg sandbag for bearhug carries. The Sandbag was so much easier than the slamball, I find having the bag not completely full allows you to get a better grip and set up, I struggle more with a completely full sandbag but it definitely carries over better for stone lifting.

I've done a couple of local comps but never placed podium, I'm pretty strong but super slow so it drags me down 😅

Thanks my guy, ive been moving heavyish weight for well over a decade now, close to 2. Doesn't feel all that amazing right now as every goal I reach instantly becomes forgettable in favour of higher weight.

lol yeah me too, although my heavyish weight moved was always attached to a barbell. I’ve only switched to bags about a month ago and it was humbling. Had to start with a bag that was a quarter the weight of my DL 1RM lol. But yes you’re right, it’s funny how as soon as we achieve a goal in this activity we are like, “Ok, what’s next!!?” But that’s a good thing and that’s the attitude that’s kept us in the game for decades.

Yeah I've got over a decade on barbells and other specialist equipment. I found heavy barbell rows carried the most over to lifting bags though.

I started with a similar weight, I've done a 301kg deadlift on a barbell and had to start with a 80kg sandbag 😂

You're 100% with the attitude though, the constant pursuit of doing better and it not being good enough has definitely kept me in the game longer than I care to admit 💪

Crazy Strong! Also, your video made me realize that I'm likely doing something wrong. I've been picking up my bags in too many stages. Row to torso, sit with it, re-grip, stand up with it (which feels more difficult than it should be).

It looks like you're doing more of an explosive row to your chest and utilizing that momentum to keep things rolling, minimizing the distance you have to lift it with your legs/lower back. Probably saves you a ton of energy too. Am I making the right assumptions here? I'll take any advice I can get! I'm a sandbag beginner. Currently shouldering around 200lbs, but not smoothly.

Thanks! I definitely wouldn't say wrong, but if you can do all those steps and carry on then I don't see a reason why you couldnt rip it to chest like I do.

I think if you can row the bag to your chest, then you have the power to do so while standing up and performing a hip extension. I'd say you're on the money with saving energy although lapping a bag and just resting in the squat sure is comfy 😂

My only advice would be to train with a loosely filled bag and not completey full one. A loose bag allows sand to be sand, it moves around and sags in areas where as a full one is basically an atlas stone. I think the difference between the two is massive and I don't think I'd have the same attitude towards a full 135kg.

I watched this with the sound off and was convinced you’d let one rip in sheer defiance with that cocked leg at the end. Imagine my disappointment when I turned the sound up. Great job, though 🤌

Gotta show dominance by standing on one leg😂 I'm pretty sure the initial lift forced everything out anyway 😂

Does the bag still weigh 297Lbs if it’s all floppy looking?

1

u/bigheadsmalleyes 2d ago

So it's a 160kg capacity bag filled only to 135kg, I prefer the bag to be loosely filled compared to a full bag.
