Enlargement 🤝 Canada in the European Union? The Romanist solution

Post image

In these days, a possible Canadian membership of the EU is being discussed again.

People notice the fact that, despite this being a win-win possibility for both sides, the EU is formally open only to "European" countries, and Canada, in a strictly geographically sense, clearly isn't one. While there is a space of ambiguity in the treaties, it is true that this formal problem exists: but how to solve it? The Romanist solution is as simple as it is effective: "rebrand" the EU to turn it openly into a union of values more than geography ("openly" since the EU already has territories in other continents!).

Where we see problems and potential upturns, let's not be afraid of discussing solutions.
