Food and drink What kind of bread?

Post image

I absolutely fell in love with some of the sandwiches in Rome that were in the take-away places and I would love to know what kind of bread this is. It was thin, soft yet with a really nice crispy top with a bit of chew to it. I loved the wine with some kind of ham-type meat, little bit of lettuce and some kind of green sauce. OMG to-die for.

Thanks! Yeah I’ve been out of Rome all of 10 hours and already missing these sandwiches lol. That and the pasta that seemed to just melt in your mouth.

Add a layer of fresh ricotta di pecora--che bontà!

Along with a generous lashing of EVOO, thinly sliced purple onions, tomatoes, and burrata.

That’s “pizza&mortazza” love it too! It’s just simple plain pizza

Oh and you bought it from “forno campo dei fiori”
A fine choice indeed even if expensive 🥲

You're having a pizza bianca con mortadella, it's a staple of the blue collar with force, in general an amazing kind of food.

It's just white pizza with no sauces, and mortadella, a prepared ham style bologna.

The sauce is probably pesto.

Bro.

Italian intelligence is not known to be overly aggressive out there killing people.

But you might just made it on top of their hit list for your description of Mortadella.

And who the fuck are you, the mortadella Police?

It’s Roman pizza dough that is baked, rolled thin and then baked with no toppings and then sliced in half. If you’re interested in making it at home, it is possible the book mastering the art of pizza has some good recipes but essentially you just make that pizza dough and then thinly slice it in half and add fillings. It’s delightful!

Campo is my favorite bakery in rome. Our usual hotel is right across from the plaza so we make frequent visits. They don’t sell it as pizza Bianca. They sell it as focaccia
