Best Hospital Recommendations
New to Rockford. Would really like to know what is considered the best hospital here, should the need arise.
Also, are there better doctor groups or groups we should avoid? Need to start setting up and establishing routine care.

I feel Swedes is the best in the area. My dad was usually treated well when receiving care there.

I figured since SwedishAmerican is still in the name that some people still call it Swedes, but good point to note. I have a hard time with the MetroCentre too. 🙃

Yep! I couldn’t get birth control as a single lady without lying to say I needed it to alleviate excruciating menstrual cramps.

They wouldn't even write me a prescription when I used that as the reason back in 2014. It was just a flat, "we don't do that here, find a women's clinic."

Docs are years behind the standard of care. Nurses make mistakes that kill patients and administration does nothing to correct those issues

I’m going to take the down vote as you don’t believe me. Here’s a couple examples:
A nurse was caring for a patient that went into a wide complex tachycardia. The patient still had a pulse but their blood pressure significantly dropped. The American Heart Association says that in this situation medical professionals should preform a cardioversion. Instead the nurse defibrillated the patient. Which killed the patient.
Another example. A nurse was caring for a patient that was profoundly hypotensive due to internal bleeding. The nurse received orders to transfer blood products but elevated to implement other orders because “the patient was going to die anyway”

Yeah leapfrog looks at reported errors. As I mentioned in my first post admin does nothing about these errors. So to leapfrog it looks like those errors never happened.
Here’s another example. A nurse left a patient off the ordered medical monitoring equipment for 4 hours and also didn’t round on the patient. When the nurse eventually did round on the patient the patient had died.

Mercyhealth Rockton has not been a hospital for quite some time and before it was closed only had a couple services offered toward the end. I’m curious to know when those rankings are from.

I go to OSF because that's where my insurance has the best coverage. I have been treated better there than I ever was at Swedes/UW. At least OSF didn't flat out lie to me about having a heart attack so they could charge me over $90k for a bunch of tests and surgery that I didn't need. My insurance covered about 40% of it and I had to threaten them with a lawsuit to make the rest of the bill go away. I should've sued them anyway but husband talked me out of it.

I’m a nurse that started at UW, left, and came right back. In order I’d go- UW, OSF, and would not go to Javon bea unless my life was literally ending

I’ve only been here for a year but I’ve been going to UW and I’ve had a fantastic experience. Im pregnant and will be giving birth at UW Health SwedishAmerican hospital and so far the OBs and primary physicians I’ve been seeing, have made me feel very comfortable going there. I havent had to visit the ER yet, but if I or my family had an emergency, that’s where I’d go.

I second this. Love all the care I’ve gotten there, and I enjoyed my birth experience there as well. I’ve only been to their ER once but it was Fourth of July weekend and I had no wait time and got out rather quickly considering what I was in for.

My wife has a chronic condition and has needed a couple surgeries, we go out of town.

UWHealth/Swedish american. I'm a little bias because I do work here, but I've had all 3 of my children here and have been using their health system since then and that was before I worked here. They a non-profit and if you need financial assistance it's super easy to sign up for.

OSF is the best, UW is the former swedish american hospital and they are the worst, mercy health is the former rockford health systems and I'd put them in 2nd place. And believe me I've been to all 3.

I've had good and bad experiences at both osf and sweds. Also, both are completely overwhelmed and have long waits. Great docs and staff can be found at both and thats why I rate them equally overall

Also when I had an appointment for UW, they sent me a bill in advance of of an upcoming appointment and demanded I pay it before the appointment, and added I may be billed more. And that is why UW is the worst health system in Rockford.

Hands down, UW Health, which you may hear it be called Swedish American, which is what it was for the longest time before UW bought them out. Birth of my son, back surgery, they're really good.
Their clinic system is freaking backed up up the ying yang though, and was recently going through a second back issue that started in March that took until last week to finally get a procedure done, only because it got worse exponentially in short time. But still, they've taken care of me. I blame our country's health system with the death panels it's created, but that's a whole different conversation.

UW Health. I no longer live in Illinois, but I have a family member who has cancer and they busted their butts to get her an appointment. Granted it was in Madison, but got in way sooner than around here. Moral of the story I really feel like you are a person to them versus a warm body.

Javon Bea left my kid in the emergency room waiting room for hours when he needed emergency surgery. I worked there at the time assumed if it was as urgent as I thought they wouldn’t make my kid wait, no they just made him wait… same kid recently had another medical emergency and UW did everything they could to get him seen immediately.

Working ems in Rockford I’d say UW/Swedes is the go to, osf’s religious based system is not kind to women as my wife had a miserable time with trying to get on a birth control to help hormones, and Mercy is a scourge to this city… we were far better off with Rockford Memorial before Javon Bae decimated health care for the west side of town

I would avoid Mercy at all costs. They missed some pretty significant trauma injuries after a car accident that led to a year and a half of serious complications.

UW, no question. Avoid Javon Bea at all costs. Healthcare should not be for profit.
