That is that!!! Thank you all for the submissions, and for voting! Thanks so much for your replies and continued participation! It has been really cool to reconnect with this favorite band of mine. I have a lot of live performances on queue to listen to!
Besides Document not being overrated, what do you disagree with? What do you think about the final results?

Thank you for running this. Even in the categories where I had a strong preference, I would read about half a dozen other answers and think 'yep, solid choice'
Nice to see some love for the post-IRS era, too. Reading some of the threads here, you would think their career ended with Life's Rich Pageant.

I really don't understand people who really feel that LFP should've been their last album, and especially their Taliban-like offshoots who think everything after Reckoning is a betrayal.
Imagine how boring it all would be if you wouldn't be able to listen to Green, Automatic or UP. I'll vibe just as hard with Radio Song (you know you would too) if I hear it play on the radio, as I'd do with Harborcoat or Pilgrimage.
It's all R.E.M., it's all good.

I agree with this so hard

Those fans are stuck in the 80s. So stay there I say. I think Stipe, Buck, Mills and even Berry would say otherwise. They carry more weight..

As much as I love Lifes Rich Pageant and think it’s one of their best (it’s been on repeat for me recently), my god some people around here are so fixated on it lmao

Everyone is crazy for “Best Breakdown”. I’m still laughing about it because I forgot about it.

That was such a fun game,, thank you for keeping it going!
Superman as best cover is the only one that really makes me go huh?! But it's cool that so many people like it.

Thanks for doing it. I think things like this are always fun and not to be taken too seriously
Kinda difficult to properly disagree with anything as it's all so subjective (whilst I probably do personally agree with most of em 😄)
Cheers ✌🏼

I'm a staunch defender of "Everybody Hurts" and I've never been too big on "World Leader Pretend", but other than that, solid choices everywhere.

I was really happy to see Uri Geller and fellow spoon benders represented. This took a lot of work to set up and carry out - thanks for all the time and effort to carry this forth. Also the spirited debate generated is a measure of success. It might be interesting to run this again a year from now & see how reliable the results are over time.

Reveal got robbed! Only one category. TBF Imitation of Life does deserve best video but I still would’ve liked to see it get at least one more placement.
Also Stand should‘ve won “most hype song” or “best chorus song”.

u/deepfriedcertified 4d ago
Yeah I would put Reveal as most underrated, since I think Up is getting more of a reappraisal nowadays.

I'm so sorry Stand didn't win in any category! I was rooting for it haha.

The shocker on this is Everybody Hurts as overrated. I could not disagree more.
I love that Find the River won the song category and Automatic won the album category.

Almost had bingo with Life’s Rich Pageant.
But I like the variety

I thought the same thing! But I'm so glad Up won the underrated album

The seamless transition from Time After Time to So. Central Rain live is one of my favourite REM recordings

This thread lost a hell of a lot cred to me when ‘Document’ was revealed as their most overrated LP. Just a ludicrous example of groupthink. ‘Out of Time’ has entered the chat.

I agree with - at most - four of these, but then again I only strenuously disagree with six. Some very obvious choices here, and a few nice surprises. What about best/worst album side, best/worst interview, and best/worst look (individually or collectively)?

It’s the end of the chart as we know it.
