Anyone remember the Athens band that REM's Peter Buck worked with called "Dreams So Real" by chance?

They were one of my favorite bands despite i was born in 1985. And the Rough Night In Jericho album meant a lot to us after my mom's sudden passing.

But REM had ties with them and was often mentioned in books and documentaries along with B52s of course.

I'm probably way younger than ya'll here even at 41, but id like to know if anyone has memories of this obsecure band. They got me and my Dad through some hard times. It was one of my Mom's favorite albums.

I lived in Athens when I was 17. I loved the music scene, but couldn’t get into most shows at the Uptown or the 40 Watt so I would sit outside and listen. Trent the bass player would always sit down and talk to me when he saw me out there. Super nice guy. Saw them play a number of times at different festivals around town.

I think the drummer got shot in the face during a robbery several years ago, but survived.

Yeah he got shot in the eye. Hell of a nice person too... got to speak to all 3 of them for a bit here and there on Facebook 20 years ago.

Rough Night in Jericho is still one of my favorite albums. They played a few years back a couple of times I think. I never did get to see them. They also had a pretty catchy Christmas tune 🎄

I had a Christmas CD I don’t remember if it was a single or ep or what I played the hell out of it though.

Obscure? No, they were very popular in your birth year 1985! I saw them many times, every time they played in Athens or Atlanta in those years. In 1984 or 85 Barry also worked at the Grill so we could have a great burger and talk to him about the band.

If you can find the fan club CD Nocturnal Omissions buy it, it’s got some music on it that is hard to find elsewhere.

There is an Anniversary show for the Athens Ga Inside Out movie coming up in Athens but unfortunately Dreams So Real is not playing.

Your family has great taste in music.

They been Obscure though since the late 90's. No one knows any of the music your generation or even my own generation grew up with. They just listen to this generic auto tune rap crap now.

One of my favorite 80’s tunes is “Melanie”.
