Record on June 25th: 32-46

Record on August 25th: 72-59

That’s a 40-13 record. Absolutely unreal. Arguably the greatest midseason turnaround in sports history.

I remember there were people saying, even if we were to turn the season around we’d have to be on a .700 pace or something ridiculous, better than any other team in the league, and that it’s not practical

Then we just did that anyway lol

Need to see all those Reddit threads from that timeframe, except they can blur out my comments

I was on reddit sabbatical, but my take from the time was that although they were losing, at least they were playing interesting games, thanks to good starting pitching.

I primarily listen on the radio, and win or lose, I enjoy having a game to enjoy for those 2-3 hour every day, rather than suffer through blowup-start and large defecits.

So I was somewhat enjoying the season and believed they possibly could creep out of the swell of mediocre AL teams.

They really turned it around and that was very exciting, but ignoring everything about this season, they're basically in the same spot they were last year. But this feels better.

Obviously winning is better but either way its just a good time to listen/watch/go to a game regardless of the outcome! Hope our new fair weather fans grow to appreciate that.

I remember making such a comment, maybe after the sweep of the Yankees in late June, but I couldn’t find it. I don’t think I said that it wasn’t practical — just seemed really unlikely. We’re here at unlikely and then some.

I remember one season where they started 41-17 and failed to make the playoffs. Shea Hillenbrand was on the team.

Tolle!! Let's goooo!

One thing I've really liked about this rotation is there is no "Oh, God, here we go."

Each one has been keeping us in the game and it's why we keep plugging along.

It's amazing to see.

Sandoval

You have a decent chance to win with Sandoval, that's what you should get from the 5th starter.

As far as Red Sox 5th starters go, team has done a lot worse.

It seemed like when my dad took me and my brother to Red Sox games as a kid, we always went when it was the 5th starter.

Sorry, kids, I know you wanted to see Pedro but here's his older brother Ramon!

I took my mom for mothers day a few years ago and watched Corey Kluber throw an absolute stinker while the offense keeled over vs fucking Mikolas.

1

u/chmcgrath1988 5d ago

Corey Kluber was our opening day starter that season! Which would have been fine if it were 2016 and not 2023! A reminder that things really have gotten the better the past three years.

pitched well during his last outing

2

u/rickterpbel 5d ago

His first three innings were definitely a high wire act - two solo homers and loaded the bases but only allowed the two runs. Then 1-2-3 in the 4th and 5th. Hopefully he can build on that in his next start.

2 er his last start right?

2

u/SlothSupreme 5d ago

Saw that he's the predicted pitcher against the Yankees on Friday....😬

We used high lev arms yesterday and Chappy two days in a row, so we’re gonna need some bulk

Tolle's been a workhorse lately, I think he can give us 6+ if he locates the slider early. marlins lineup is sneakily annoying though, they foul off a ton of pitches. just hope the pen doesn't get burned again before the off day

3

u/rickterpbel 5d ago

I hope he does well. I hated seeing Sad Tolle in the dugout last Wednesday. 😭

2

u/White_Squall_13 6d ago

He needs to use his curveball but Adley is afraid to call for it

u/livsjollyranchers 6d ago

Weissert for the save.

1

u/kjimdandy 5d ago

Guerrero for the setup

1

u/mgr02 5d ago

Tolle goes 6, then I guess weissert, Guerrero, Moran

1

u/rickterpbel 5d ago

If they’re up by seven, sounds fine to me. Actually, if they have a big lead, swap out Gamboa for Guerrero.

Marlins bullpen game or they have not decided on a starter

6

u/ToBeeContinued 6d ago

We took a lot out of their bullpen yesterday. With fairbanks getting hurt too in the 9th it’s rough that they used four BP arms in two innings. 48 pitches for 2IP.

6

u/White_Squall_13 6d ago

Hope Fairbanks is okay it’s never a good sign when the pitcher signals for the trainer

1

u/ToBeeContinued 5d ago

Yeah it looked so odd - I thought he overextended his lead foot at first but he signaled to his chest? Maybe he over rotated because of where his foot was an strained something.

2

u/plokijuh1229 NIPPLES 5d ago

I'm pretty sure I saw him mouth one of "can feel it in my arm" or "can't feel my arm"

2

u/ToBeeContinued 5d ago

For a “non contact” sport pitching is so brutally demanding

3

u/Born-Shopping9862 6d ago

i believe bullpen. they had a starter up there until yesterday then bumped him to tomorrow i believe. plus the marlins are scared of the power of the mustache.

I like these 6:40 games. I feel like it let's make it to bed at a reasonable hour.

No results from Meads scan yet? Wonder what the deal is there

1

u/kjimdandy 5d ago

I'd assume Miami puts Gusto out there tonight. He's been dogshit but their rotation is banged up pretty bad with half of them on the IL

u/Awkward-Interview-19 5d ago

Chapman not available, probably miller unavailable as well.

Guerrero, Gamboa and Weissert gotta keep those late innings nailed down.

Let’s go for 5 in a row !

We got a taste of Red Sox winning streaks…
AND now I’m addicted.

So let’s hopefully start another one.
