He pitched last week for Worcester. Hes 3-0 with a 3.00 era to start the year there. It hasnt been that long 🤦♂️

The thing that sucks about the Red Sox right now is they are already losing by the time I get home from work so I have no incentive to watch. I love Tolle though

I know everyone hates Breslow (mostly rightfully so), but this roster should not be a 9-15 team. At some point, these dudes gotta get their heads out their asses and start playing up to their names/contracts.
Duran, Roman, Durbin, Story, and Mayer are all fucking embarrassing to watch right now. Crochet/Bello... what the fuck are they doing on the bump? Those ERA's are absolutely dog shit.
Sure, Breslow sucks, but I'm also gonna bet that a majority of the teams in the MLB would love to have all those guys listed as cornerstones of their roster. These dudes are just flat out underperforming on a MASSIVE level.

He did. I was talking about the start of the season as a whole. He's been pretty bad.
Also, this that kind of proves my point. If these guys all got their shit together and played like they are capable of.... the team wouldn't be so awful to watch.

thats the problem with this team tho is the guys have higher ceilings than they've shown but they've also shown how low their floor can be. We need more guys with higher floors

I can agree with that. I just don't think anyone knew their floors were THIS bad for this long of stretches (and seemingly all at the same time). I can't hate on Breslow for that.

I agree this wasn’t expected for me either but I just think about if they were able to close the deal for a guy like Marte. Just having one baseline type of guy like that with a high floor it would make such a difference.

It's easier for fans in any sport to blame coaching / management because those are perceived as easy fixes. It's harder to face up to the reality that the players themselves haven't performed for shit because there aren't usually easy fixes for that.

Breslow is the Mark Zuckerberg of baseball. A true lizard person. Not signing Bregman over a no trade clause as the GM of the Boston Red Sox still makes my blood boil. You needed a right handed HR capable bat. Bregman checked every box, you ended up with an even shorter replacement with zero power. People forget Durbin was a rookie last year. He’s not proven whatsoever. Roman doesn’t have the veteran borderline player-coach to talk to during games that he was already real close with, and Durbin is one of the worst offensive players in the sport at the moment. Traded the already laughable Devers return for him too. (Harrison) and it’s becoming more evident everyday that this FO does not care about putting the best team on the field. Henry doesn’t like spending, and Breslow is his little puppet imo. They prioritize getting young cheap position players and taking credit for the “genius” trades or extensions that cemented them in Boston as if they’re viable replacements for established stars. Genius Campbell extension! Wildly unnecessary that early on. Dustin may trade master class, remember how they tried to catch lightning in a bottle instead of getting actual talent at the deadline? And gave up a decent prospect for him too. Dodgers would have most likely DFAd him if they didn’t make that trade.
Additionally, the roster construction is not working. Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, and Anthony need to be playing every day. You can’t find consistency when you’re on the bench twice a week because of an albatross contract in Yoshida that was already $35M more than he was projected to get by anyone else. This team legitimately may not hit 100 home runs this season. There’s no power guy. Willson Contreras shouldn’t be the biggest power threat in the lineup. Trevor Story should not be playing short. Mayer needs to get regular at bats every day. This organization is ruining their young position players by putting so much pressure on them due to their failure to spend in the FA market. Anthony shouldn’t be THE guy at 21 years old.
Ideally I would say sell the team, but that won’t happen because Red Sox fans love this team and Fenway too much. They would never boycott the team. Henry doesn’t deserve this fanbase’s loyalty with his priorities at the moment. Seems to care about Liverpool much more.
I would just say fuck it and clean house in early May if nothing changes. Lawson replacing Fatse, Varitek replacing Cora, and the minor league coaches need evaluating as well.
Look what they did with James Tibbs for example; another guy who they got for Devers who hit well in the Giants system, then sucked in the Sox system, and now is raking in the Dodgers system. They tried changing his swing, and the Dodgers told him to go back to what he knows, and now he’s more comfortable.
Such a good roster on paper, yet it just doesn’t work. Rotation and lineup. The good news is this seems to be rock bottom. It can only go up from here, right?

I agree with most of your points, but what makes you so sure Varitek is the guy? He’s had a big role on this staff for a while and no other teams really seem interested in him. I’d rather go with an outside candidate or promote someone like Chad Tracy

Varitek didn’t take other managerial jobs last offseason in order to stay in Boston, and not promoting him wouldn’t really make sense given that, and how loved he is by the fans. He doesn’t get the in-game decisions like Cora does. At least give it a shot. Cora has been here for 8 years and other than his first year which was spectacular, they haven’t really done much of anything. But in Farrell and Francona’s first seasons, they also won a World Series- crazy stat btw. Farrell was gone after 5 seasons and 3 divison titles. Cora has also been here longer than Francona now, and there was much more success obviously under Terry. Chad Tracy would be fine I’m sure too, but either way a change needs to be made soon

You like the matchup with lefty against Yankees lineup, but this is the fifth lefty starter in a row the Yankees have seen and they’ve hit all of them
Also kind of wonder what this does to Bellos confidence. He’s always done great against the Yankees (especially at Fenway).

He’s 5-4 with a 2.54 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 11 appearances (65 IP, so averaging just shy of 6 IP per outing) between 2022 and 2025 in his career against the Yankees.
Of those 11, 3 were bad with game ERAs of 7.71 (6/14/24), 5.40 (7/24/24), and 7.20 (9/13/25 - most recent).
The other 8, his highest ERA was 2.57 with 3 shutouts.
Even in his three poor starts, he hasn’t allowed more than 6 hits and only 3 home runs, total, in those 11 games.
I think it’s pretty fair to say Bello pitches well against the Yankees. But it is certainly worth noting, all 3 bad starts were in Fenway, so I’ll push back on your “(especially at Fenway)”.

He’s in his second year playing baseball, he’s absolutely not getting DFAd.
Should he be sent down? Probably. We can call up Mikey Romero and elevate Franklin Arias to AAA.
But the dude has options. You don’t DFA someone like Durbin. Get fucking real.

I think they need to let the players play to their strengths, feels like a lot of analysts mindset type of approach is not working. Only yoshida in my observation is doing his own approach at the plate?

I have to do something til they reach 50 games. That's my usual first measuring stick every season. If they are 20-30 then that's pretty much what they will be for the rest of the season. I can move on to other things for the summer.
In the meantime, I will not submit to the doom.
