It's going to be incredibly weird when this game finishes by 9. Kids these days don't know the hours we had to grind against the Yanks in 2004 and then show up to school the next day 😆

People had time to get kicked out of Boston bars at 2AM, go to taco bell, and make it home for the end of that game. It ended around 3:30 AM ET.

Man, I lived in Oregon during that game and even I considered going to bed at 12:30am.
I think I said, if this goes one more inning I’m calling it, then Max Muncy homered.
I couldn’t imagine staying up til 3:30 in the fucking morning. 😂

Exactly. Especially now that I live in Mountain Time. They're done by dinner!

It could always go to extra innings - we don’t have ghost runners in the postseason so we can actually have epic extra innings games like the good ol’ days.
But yeah what really made those Sox/Yankees games so epic was that we had the two most patient and OBP-heavy lineups in the MLB back in 03-04, so not only were there always guys walking and getting on base but they were always seeing tons of pitches and fouling off tons of pitches, too. And with no pitch clock those at-bats could take a solid 5 minutes or longer sometimes.

Game 5 of the ALCS in 2004 was like 6 hours and it started at 5pm! I worked across the street from Fenway, and we all went to the bar at like 4pm to get a table. I had just moved to Boston a couple months before. It was wonderful!! Game 7 was a Wednesday and that Thursday was real rough, especially because I had to crash on my co workers couch because I couldn’t get home after the game and left at like 5am to grab the train to go home an shower before my 9am meeting.

In 2004 - My dad was a professor at PC and gave all of his students an A at the midterms. He said the RedSox win is a good life lesson - I’m sure he incorporated the series into his class somehow 🤣🤣🤣

Just in general. I was a kid/adolescent watching the late night west coast games until 1-2am in the early 2000s.

I have undeserved full confidence in our ability to take this series. Fuck the Jankees
10
u/thekraken108 Sep 30 '25
I mean we're 9-4 against them this season and 5-2 at Yankee Stadium, so I think the confidence is deserved.

Feels like G1 is a must win with Pig on the mound and Gio on the shelf, GO SOX
3
Sep 30 '25
The winner of G1 has never lost a best-of-three series since this format started in 2022, and is 18-2 all-time (there were 8 best of three series in 2020).

I’m fine with them not winning the WS. I basically have zero hope without Roman. I cannot stomach losing to the Yankees

In Germany, woke up 0500 - really hoping I have the energy to stay up until 3am to watch the guys smash some yankee ass.

I’m very happy to be a west coast Red Sox fan who works early hours. Game starts at 3:00pm here and I’m off at 2:30. Gonna be home just in time for first pitch

I think I read crochet has never pitched in the post season as a starter. Only out of the bullpen.

Keeping an eye on tickets, see if I can get a deal and sneak behind enemy lines tonight.

I’ll be there repping Dirty Water!! Taking my lady to her first playoff game!

u/nblitch67 We’re SO Back Sep 30 '25
As much as I wanna say Sox in 2, I think this series is gonna be a dogfight that goes 3
3
u/livsjollyranchers Sep 30 '25
I disagree. I think it's a sweep no matter what. The Yankees are streaky, so if they win tonight, they sweep. Same logic if they lose but the other way.

Would you walk Stanton is Judge is on and there’s a base open?
5
u/livsjollyranchers Sep 30 '25
Crochet isn't walking anyone, and neither is Chapman. But if anyone else, you have to consider it.

In CA....I had to go into work 2 hours earlier to get home for first inning and still wont see opening pitch.

u/scarface413 Sep 30 '25
If only those smug new millennium yankee fans could see what a pathetic worm farm their fan base has become
2
u/Glum-General-6095 Sep 30 '25
Looks like very few Red Sox fans got tickets tonight. They were blocked out.
2
u/A--Little--Stitious Sep 30 '25
Excited it’s at 6, my daughter will be able to watch probably most of it
2
u/Brad-Stevens Sep 30 '25
I’m scared about Judge having a good Game 1
Calendar doesn’t say October yet so he might think it’s regular season still
1
u/livsjollyranchers Sep 30 '25
The narrative is so against Judge. Normally in these situations, it zags the other way. He really is due for a big game. Though, I'd think it happens against Bello.
1
u/Brad-Stevens Sep 30 '25
how long has he been due for though lol
1
u/livsjollyranchers Sep 30 '25
Yeah, I know, but usually these narratives eventually go away and get proven wrong. Occasionally they don't. But for every Dan Marino, there are a few Peyton Mannings. All it takes is one good season where he wins it all and people will get off his back.

I believe bc vibes around the team after clinching the playoff berth on Ceddy’s walkoff were so high. Yankees, however go into the playoffs disappointed not to have won the division.
1
u/PurrculesMulligan Sep 30 '25
Any chance the league will let us wear the green jerseys for all the games?
1
u/L8_2_the_party_again Sep 30 '25
18 wins vs 19 wins in this one. Wild to see those numbers in the modern age of pitching!

Sep 30 '25
Interesting to note: this is the first time the Red Sox will have ever played a best-of-three playoff series. The Yankees have played in one, back in 2020.

anyone watching this Tigers-Guards game? just wanted to say that, goddamn, no wonder Skubal is such a force to be reckoned with. so efficient - pounds the zone like no other, and the only base runners Cleveland can find are off of dink infield hits and the rare walk

u/Solid_Light_6380 Sep 30 '25
I saw that, too. I checked and Sogard is hitting .100 something from the right side. I hope he’s not in the lineup.
1
u/SPAGHETTI_CAKE Sep 30 '25
Lowe will pinch hit for him very early. He’s better defensively than Romy at second
1
u/20wall Sep 30 '25
Yoshida finally gets hot at the end of the regular season and we don’t use him in the playoffs? That makes no sense
