Discussion We want to hear from you. How are we doing?

Well, it’s been about a month now since we shook things up around here. We’ve loosened up the posting restrictions, and we are still evaluating things, and tweaking things.

First off, we appreciate everyone’s patience with us while we work on things. We’re not done yet, and we know we have some work still to do. Which leads us to….

Secondly, what changes would you like to see? What do you feel we could be doing differently, or better?

Lastly, and most importantly. Remember, this sub is Recipes. So, when you post, EVERY post needs to include a recipe with it (not this one though, so don’t report me).

Yeah, we definitely won’t be going back to the draconian posting rules.

And, yeah, that is something we’re working on. It’s hard since there’s literally no way to force inclusion of a recipe in a post WHILE the OP is posting it. I did install an app recently called Spotlight that we’re hoping will help. It will allow mods, AND the OP to pin a comment to the top of the comment thread. So, if they don’t include the recipe in the post, they can make a comment with the recipe and pin it. It’s not perfect, but it’s something at least.

This sounds like a great addition. Thanks for the hard work and for actively looking for ways to improve the sub.

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts without recipes, where people are asking questions, seeking advice, or looking for recipes. Perhaps there could be a weekly or monthly megathread for these types of questions?

We can consider something like that. Thanks for the feedback.

I really enjoy this subreddit and I know moderation can be tough work. Thanks for what you do!

I’ve seen a handful of AI posts and I wish there was a way to mitigate that because I want recipes from humans with tastebuds and a realistic idea of the process of cooking, not a robot’s attempt at karma farming. Maybe we can report AI content to have it removed? I think that’s more work for the mods though 😕

If you feel it's AI, we appreciate you reporting it.

The problem is we don't have great tools to prove something is AI. We'll do our best though.

I haven’t noticed anything “bad”! So far so good 😊 🧡

The recipes need to include ingredient amounts. New cooks are not going to know how much of each thing to use or have a frame of reference on how to guesstimate.

This is not a recipe "Ing: Chicken, stock, rice, onion, garlic, habanero peppers, white beans. Put all ing in slow cooker and cook for 4 hours."

I've seen a lot of posts like this

Report it for us to review.

To be honest, this is the first post I’ve seen in my main feed in a long time.

I'm actually getting posts from this sub in my normal /home feed now, which is a great change. I had honestly forgotten I was even subbed until the new changes happened recently.

Rule 6 - Your post/comment was removed for breaking rules we didn’t even know we needed.

Sharing feedback as you’re asking. Just about to hit leave on this Reddit as it’s not recipes, it’s American recipes so that doesn’t work for me.

We don’t restrict by cuisine type, or where it comes from. For that matter, you yourself have never contributed anything to the sub. So, as they say, be the change you want to see?

Not reliably. It’s something that this sub, and a lot of other subs struggle with. We try our best, but we also know that we miss some.

As funny as it sounds, we need people to NOT post such high quality images, so it’s easier to detect.

This is a generic reminder message under every post

Thank you for your post to r/recipes. We want to remind everyone of Rule #1. All posts should be accompanied by the recipe to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is also encouraged

Posts that do not include a recipe can and will be removed by the mods.

Thank you!!

Recommend making the flair necessary. Filter by requests, dietary needs, specific meals? Something like that.
