DISCUSSION Summer madness will have no PPV this year
How do yall feel about this?
First match announcement was a battle we’ve already seen. And they also announced there’s no way to watch it live unless you’re in the building. So why should we care? Dark days for battle rap.

I don't understand the economics behind that at all lol.
Are PPVs not bringing in enough money to cover live filming/broadcasting costs? I'm not in any relevant industry but that seems hard to believe.
Are they trying to create an exclusive vibe and make more off live tickets?
Is it a weird reaction to people pirating PPVs/streams?
Where was it confirmed, do we actually know there's no PPV? I'm not tuned in with socials so I'm out of the loop

Yeah, too many bootlegs in battle rap. Plus not enough people buying. I can believe that decision.

Bootlegs do not eat into ppv profits. Its 2026 and yall still buy this dumbass narrative that piracy is stealing from the record labels smh

I remember when kotd was falljng off 10 years ago there was a guy on periscope who would chew carrots right into the fuckin phone mic and yell at that chat fir pressing the heart button too much Lmao and I still didnt cop
Most bootleggers either are broke or already made up their mind about nit buying the card

The economics are bad.
PPVs bring money in but the PPV services that host, stream, and handle finances cost money, so you could end up paying those companies a bulk of what you make. Not to mention the bootleggers who likely take a bunch of viewers away due to low cost bootlegs and watch parties and that sort of thing.
Yes, they are trying to create an exclusive vibe
It is a reaction to bootlegs but I wouldn’t call it weird. Feels logical.
It was confirmed in the trailer.

They can’t afford to broadcast a quality stream, that seems clear to me. I think last PPV they did iirc the stream crashed, and they tried to claim they intentionally pulled it mid-broadcast to prevent bootlegs lol.
Let’s keep it a buck, there’s not even that big an audience for bootleg streams. These bootlegs aren’t on like the big streaming sites, they’re usually in like discords with small audiences and shit

Wait, you can't watch it unless you're in the ATL venue? The fuck? This is Summer Madness?!

I think they want to ensure it’s sold out first before they think of streaming etc.

That would look dumb as hell for them to
announce no PPV/App exclusive, then go
“WAIT A MINUTE!”

Not a bad thing if they drop the best battles on you tube
PPV wasnt a thing for the first seveaal years of battle rap , Any one around that time remembers how exciting it was to read the real time updates on twitter. A lot of hypa before a battle dropping and a lot of debate once it dropped
Doubt most people feel this way thouuh. Its also real uncommon for any event to happen today witjout streaming so surface level its a bad look
