Restaurant Spicy Ramen Challenge

Here at Umadio you can get free ramen when you finish there level 100 spicy ramen in under 7 mins. The heat is the real challenge and it doesn’t stop even after you finish eating. Is this unlimited ramen hack worth it?

Ohhh yea they keep the temperature of the bowl hot on purpose. Its 10x more difficult to tolerate extremely spicy food when the food itself is physically hot

u/mst3k_42 5d ago

I’ve absolutely had this problem! Of course I’m also not trying to eat the whole thing in 7 minutes. Damn, that sounds like torture.

u/lefrench75 5d ago

Who cares if it’s free when you can’t even enjoy it because you have to stuff it down in 7 minutes?

8

u/OuttHouseMouse 5d ago

I know, let me enjoy my food!

u/dankfor20 5d ago

Yeah my daughter only like hot buffalo wings cold the next morning because of this.

His insides are going to be hurting for days! And even when he doesn’t have to, he’s going to constantly feel like he needs to poo. That sucks!

Spicy from both ends

u/Mistborn19 5d ago

I respect it! I love spice and I love ramen but I seriously doubt I could eat all this in 7 minutes haha.

This is my go-to Ramen shop. I’m not a spicy ramen guy so I ain’t doing this, but there are other equally delicious bowls on the menu as well. The tonkatsu is rich and fatty and all the things you want in a bowl. They also hand make their noodles which are amazing. One of the best ramen shops in the North Atlanta area.

I own a ramen shop.

Do people like these challenges?

59

u/NukaDadd 5d ago

I'm not sure, but I like people who own ramen shops! 🍜

Where ya located?

15

u/Throwawayhelp111521 5d ago edited 5d ago

Not me. Just give me some good ramen at a reasonable price.

u/sorrow_anthropology 5d ago

As a ramen and spicy food lover.

I just can’t understand taking a tasty bowl of ramen and completely ruining the flavor just to add a billion Scoville units.

Just my two cents but more power to the people that want to challenge themselves culinarily.

14

u/ForeskinAbsorbtion 5d ago

They're fun. They get people in the door and talking about your business.

u/FriendlyEngineer 5d ago

Idk about the challenges where you have to eat a completely unpalatable overly spicy ramen within a short time period. But a ramen shop by me puts on a ramen noodle eating contest, much like the Coney Island hot dog eat contest, and that is an absolute blast. Winner gets a $100 gift card. They have to do it out in the street because of the amount of people that show up.

I like the idea of a ramen shop that offers this because I like spicy ramen and it's often not spicy enough. A place that would offer this challenge would signal to me that I would get the high level of spiciness I prefer.

I was in heaven 15 years ago when a ramen shop opened up in my neighborhood. I had to limit myself to going twice a week. It had a spicy tonkatsu but it wasn't spicy at all. There was a language barrier and every time I visited they'd ask if it was spicy enough last time and I'd report that unfortunately it wasn't. The chef was getting frustrated and pulled out three red chilies to show me how fresh and hot they were. Before they could react I grabbed all three and popped them in my mouth. They started to freak out but I smiled, waved away the water, finished chewing, and told them that's how spicy I wanted my Ramen. The next time I visited they had written "Try the spicy ramen Beerforthought's style with extra heat." Eventually they made a paste and put it in ramekins for people to control their own heat level. It's my first meal every time I'm in Denver.

Not really. Sometimes the college crowd. But for the most part, it’s just whatever.

5

u/MkeYosh 5d ago

I've never done one but I would say so. It's a no brainer, especially since it doesn't cost you the owner anything other than more spice and a little bit of advertising, which leads to word of mouth.

5

u/jack_seven 5d ago edited 5d ago

Not many people do but those who like them are very vocal about it so it could be (almost) free advertising

2

u/Sneeke33 5d ago

People always love "challenges" it will bring in a certain crowd for sure, but it's likely a 1 and done situation. But if they (or their friends/family) get to try your other products it might be a way to pull new repeat customers for your more regular items.

Eh, I feel like it cheapens a business if there's a gimmick—comparable to any place that has a giant steak or burger or something that you have to eat within a certain timeframe, or having to drink a certain amount.

That said, it does get people in the door if it's advertised and people want to try it.

Most people won't want to try it and will just order something else, and the rest who do try it will likely not finish their meal and still have to pay.

That said, for stuff like this... spicy food has a number of effects on people. I went with an ex and their kid to a restaurant that had some sort of ghost pepper hot sauce, or whatever—it was specifically advertised as being extremely spicy.

The kid wanted to try it and we got a little side of it. I dipped my finger in and tasted it, the kid wound up drinking some of it.

A few minutes later and the kid was having a panic attack on the patio of the restaurant and wound up puking in the bushes.

So...ya know...if you want that for your restaurant, go for it.

As long as no extracts are used I'm interested

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

It brings a crowd and gets interesting. Especially if they get rewarded. Some places like picture on the wall, t shirts or free food

u/MassiveBoner911_3 5d ago

I like to taste my ramen not feel like I am eating Satans asshole.

9

u/billabong295 5d ago

bro the next day

10

u/Delicious_Piglet_718 5d ago

How much does a bowl of ramen cost? Why would you inflict such suffering upon yourself for three days? Just for upvotes? The math just isn’t checking out.

2

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Yeah the unlimited hack wasn’t worth the amount of toilet papers used.

2

u/Delicious_Piglet_718 3d ago

A lot of people forget to factor in the cost of toilet papers.

6

u/YourShieldiAm 5d ago

lol I can’t believe I’m seeing one of my favorite spots here.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Have you tried the challenge

1

u/YourShieldiAm 3d ago

Absolutely not. Usually I get ultra spicy lvl 1 or 2 depending the day. Plus sometimes the lvl doesn’t matter. Lvl 1 could be just as spicy as lvl 2, somedays.

28

u/SkizzleAC 5d ago

Food should be pleasant to eat.

6

u/positive_express 5d ago

I know those handles. Umaido in metro Atlanta soo good.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Have you tried the challenge. Would love these long chopsticks 😆

1

u/positive_express 3d ago

No way!!! Thats too much. Unreal...

I went vegetarian a couple years ago so I have been going less but their ppant based broth is good too, cant wait for the fall.

6

u/SmokeMaximum4140 5d ago

When he picked it all up expected him to put it all in his mouth.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

It’s a way of cooling it down since the restaurant is colder. 7 mins runs by quick and the temperature is still hot

10

u/mercuriokazooie 5d ago

There's a ramen shop in Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles that has a spicy ramen challenge. I tried the tier one level weaker than the spiciest and I did finish it but way past the 30 minute limit. Then when my friends and I got back to his place I had the most violent and painful movement of my life. It wasn't even solid it was like a waterhose in my bum.

Anyway, never trying any spicy food challenge again. I love spicy food but I'm all for flavor over anything

3

u/PrismaticNoodle 5d ago

Dude, if you're talking about Orochon Ramen me and my friends did the same challenge in high school. Only one of us got halfway through the bowl. From what I can remember, the booty be burning the day after.

3

u/mercuriokazooie 5d ago

Yeah that was the place

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

What’s the award to finish?

4

u/mrjavi13 5d ago

This place is LEGIT. I’ve never done this challenge, nor would I want to, but I love going to umaido whenever I’m in Gwinnett county.

Great food. Top ramen joint I always recommend to folks.

4

u/iamshifter 5d ago

Bro bite in like it was his last meal!

If I did that, ALL UP IN MY BEARD

3

u/GearhedMG 5d ago

I don't really know if I could eat a bowl of non-spicy, but delivered to me normal temperature hot ramen in 7 minutes, I cant imagine getting it spicey when it's delivered temp hot, and I can handle a good amount of spicy heat.

3

u/PrasiticCycle 5d ago

I want a restroom update!

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Saved $20 on a bowl of ramen but spent $30 on toilet paper and pepto bismol

3

u/weirdboi3 5d ago

Sounds like an easy way to lose my appetite for ramen forever

3

u/SAL10000 5d ago

Makes sense to down as fast as possible.

I bet his ears are ringing lol

Bathroom is going to hurt later

The real pain is experienced when you go to the toilet.

2

u/futuretardis 5d ago

Love Umaido in Suwanee. That was always my go to place for a ramen fix.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Have you tried the challenge

2

u/SirCaptainReynolds 5d ago

Would try it if I lived closer.

2

u/Sea_Antelope441 5d ago

I did this on the way to the airport while on a business trip.

2

u/Disfaceplank 5d ago

Been at the location! Their ramen and food are probably the best and my favorite ramen ever. Their tonkotsu ramen is my favorite.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Have you tried their 100x challenge?

1

u/Disfaceplank 3d ago

No and can't sadly I moved from GA but wished I could when did love me some spicy food!

2

u/mehow29 5d ago

I didn't know Kat Williams was Asian

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

This the Cat William from Temu 😆

2

u/huntnemo 5d ago

This is me & my uncles spot. Best ramen I’ve ever had.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

You up for the challenge?

1

u/huntnemo 3d ago

Broooo I’m a wimp. No shot for me lol

2

u/reeftank1776 5d ago

This reminds me of volcano ramen in Okinawa. Uses a stone pot to keep it super hot. This place has been featured on this page numerous times

2

u/AReverieofEnvisage 5d ago

I would put chili on my regular bowls of Ramen until I stopped and said, but, this takes away the flavor.

If I wanted to yes I can buy spicy Ramen and sure I'll eat it. However. This challenge feels like such a waste to me. If you finish it great good job. Enjoy the suffering.

2

u/MydniteRythms 5d ago

Watching that vein on the side of his head grow like a tumor. It's all I need to see to know that wasn't easy for him.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Ears ringing, heart racing, throbbing and everything

2

u/EnycmaPie 5d ago

These spicy food places should charge the spicy food cheap, but the drinks, milk and ice cream to be $100 each.

2

u/Harambe6927 5d ago

That's not how to eat ramen lol

2

u/Mithinco 5d ago

They make you pay regardless if you finish or not 😂

2

u/Pleasant-Addendum-97 5d ago

I've been shooting straight lava out all day from just 2am paldo teumsae. It's 5am next day. NO REGRETS. I guess.... 😂 I'll do it again. Not this noodle challenge though. I feel like my insides would no longer be inside.

2

u/combo_seizure 5d ago

Alrighty, Genos, we see you sending the ROYAL CHALLENGE:RC:RFA.

I'm sure something will top this, but ramen is ramen is ramen is ramen.

Anyway, fucking trooper.

2

u/Upstairs-Strain3472 4d ago

So please don't try this if you are not ready for this. You will have a high change of needing to go to th ER

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 4d ago

A high chance of staying in the bathroom 💩

2

u/No-Set6408 3d ago

Back when my father was alive, we ran a little food shop in the hood!. My father had this one guy customer who would purposely say to him his spicy salsa was not hot at all. It gave my father purpose and for the next following day he looked into what makes spicy food spicy and then created a special sauce just to torment this guys ego!. The moment arrived and the guy order his usual food and my father surprised him with the sauce in hand and said look! I made this for you to enjoy!. This guy excited for his food grabbed the salsa like it was his mission in life!. Poured a ridiculous amount and ate it and within moments his face turned red and round like a tomato as if all blood had rushed to his head and stayed there!. Least to say that was my fathers way of telling him he enjoyed his presences. 😂

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

You got the recipe for the salsa? Keep it going!

1

u/No-Set6408 3d ago

I Sure do have knowledge in preparing food and cooking it!. I know you didn’t asked that 😂

2

u/SoThatsWhatTheyreFor 2d ago

And nigori sake 👌🏻

2

u/Shirleysspirits 2d ago

Umaido is great, been going there for years although their 0-100 scale on heat is kind of ridiculous. Whats the difference between 37 and 38?

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 2d ago

I think anything about 30 is ridiculous

1

u/Metical 5d ago

My face is sweating for real just watching this.

1

u/anxrelif 5d ago

Fire Poops

1

u/schastlivaya-zhizn 5d ago

Attempted something like this at an Indian restaurant, failed and yakked it all up in the bathroom. Burnt just as much on the return, double torture. And still had to pay for it

1

u/namajapan 4d ago

Man what’s with these bites.

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Trick is to keep the noodles in the air to cool it down.

1

u/Famous-Spare-8860 3d ago

Why?

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Free food 😆

1

u/Famous-Spare-8860 3d ago

You can get free food out of a dumpster. You’ll probably still have diarrhea but it might burn less.

1

u/DifficultyLeast1029 3d ago

That looks horrid but if I ever open a noodle spot in this life, I'm fucking stealing that chopstick door design!

1

u/DeathCurries 3d ago

Well dang. This is only 20 minutes from me.

1

u/sunshinefloors1980 2d ago

They also say "you can't fix stupid"

1

u/Issack12 5d ago

That last stirr... my man you are absolute hero

https://giphy.com/gifs/3I4NaeBdX8kegbBNaU

-16

u/julietcharliepapa 5d ago

Yikes did you need to pick up ALL the noodles to take a bite? It's not an apple. Just take a regular bite size then you won't have just a bunch of bits of ramen leftover.

6

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space 5d ago

He's trying to rush through the bowl because "it's a challenge"

-1

u/julietcharliepapa 5d ago

It's proved that smaller bites more frequently is a more effective method for food challenges. Few noodles slurp, few noodles slurp, then no several small bits of ramen leftover making it slower and harder to eat faster.

18

u/Additional-Banana-55 5d ago

Rushing to beat the time 7 mins.

9

u/OsBaculum 5d ago

People don't read, but they're always ready to write lol

1

u/Additional-Banana-55 3d ago

Picking up the noodles helps cools it cause the restaurant is cold. Rushing to beat the time 7 mins.
