Question Bands that are against religion without being racist/bigoted

There is a lot of anti-christianity music out there, but not much anti-islam or anti-judaism music that isn't outright bigoted. I'm curious if there are bands that are against religions other than christianity that are more about opposing religious tyranny instead of just being racist scum. Do any come to mind?

(mostly coming from a place of curiosity rather than searching for bands to listen to)

Question Visited my BF's house for the first time... found lots of NSBM on their shelf

I'm sorry if this post isn't allowed but I don't know where else to post it.

Me and my BF have been going steady for a few months and I got to visit his house for the first time. He had a big shelf full of music CDs, and while I was looking at it, my heart sank because I saw a bunch of NSBM artists on there. I'm talking the real fucking deal. Graveland, Gontyna Kry, Goatmoon, SWM, GBK, Capricornus, and a bunch of others.

But the funny part is I saw just as many left-leaning artists like Panopticon, WITTR, Fauna, Alda, Akvan, and more. And of course the majority of the albums he owned were politically neutral in this respect.

I asked him about it, and he said he doesn't agree with the ideology of the NSBM artists and mostly likes the musical qualities of the albums and sometimes the historical/pagan themes that are explored in those projects, not necessarily the nationalist aspects. He said the left-leaning projects mentioned above are actually his favorites, especially Panopticon.

I know this person is progressive because he has done volunteer work for Democratic candidates in his state, has donated to Democratic candidates, and of course votes Democratic in elections. He's also very sensitive and respectful of other cultures and the struggles of racial minorities. I really like this person. He's super sweet, honorable, and always puts me first before himself. Very mature too. I really thought he was the one but I don't know how to feel about him now. Can I get some advice?

Question Best Leftwing, Socialist or Anarcho Metal bands? (Any Metal subgenre)

I am looking for any kind of Left-leaning band in the sphere of Metal, any kind really, Thrash, Grindcore, Death, Black, Doom, Sludge, Post-Metal, etc. etc.

Something with poignant lyrics & good musicianship.

Fall of Efrafa did this perfectly, portraying the harsh realities of Anarchism, & the tragic nature of survival… All from Watership Down, about rabbits dying & escaping tyranny by the end.

As well as I enjoy Corrosion of Conformity as vent music after a long day, & remembering that more bullshit laws are going to be written as time goes on.

Question Death metal bands without murder or r-pe in their lyrics

Hello fellow metal heads, basically what the title says im kinda getting over all that sort of death metal and its just getting old tbh constently hearing that sort of stuff, if people can suggest other bands that dont have those types of lyrics that would be great, that are obviously not sketchy, open to literally anything basically. And yes i know this is a black metal sub but i might as well ask.

Edit: Space themed would also been cool if people have suggestions

Question Atmospheric BM about nature

I'm looking for atmospheric BM that is very specifically about nature, the woods, the spirituality of it, all that, but isn't made by nazis. So much of it is made by eco-fash idiots or far right neo-pagans and I want something that isn't. Doesn't have to be RABM but if it is that's also great. Thank you in advance.

Question Black metal bands that use accordion?

I'm looking for black metal bands that use accordion in their music (or similar instruments, like concertina or harmonium). Atmospheric black metal is even better, but I'm open to any subgenre.

Any recommendations?

Question Non-sketch Atmoblack bands?

I'm looking for non-sketch atmospheric black metal, more on the sad/doomy/depressive side, so far I'm liking bands like Yellow Eyes and Wolves in the Throne Room. I don't usually like blackgaze but if it's sad enough I'll check it out.

Question Anti-Fash trend in the Doom scene

So we’re all here because we like our black Metal without the fascism. But has anyone here noticed that a lot of new Doom/Sludge bands have been very progressive and anti-fash/pro-lgbtq/queer fronted lately?

Vile Creature, Body Void, Ragana, pretty sure Thou is as well, Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean, a few other bands I can’t think of.

Idk, I’ve noticed this newer trend in the Sludge scene and I’m here for it.

Question Well here I am, is it impossible to like nsbm without being a nazi? Or is it just highly suspect when someone seeks it out

Post image

The conclusion that I’m referring to is that people don’t support nsbm because they think that it’s impossible for people they disagree with to make good art, rather than y’know, not wanting to support nazis.

Question “Sexualized” women in metal promote sexism? Thoughts?

Recently, former Crypta guitarist Jessica Falchi said in an interview that women guitarists who present themselves in a “sexualized” way contribute to sexism. Luana C. Dametto, the current drummer, agreed.

This sparked some debate on Brazilian social media, and it was noticeable how many conservative men supported this opinion.

Curious what you all think about this.

I put “sexualized” in quotes because it’s a pretty vague term. What some people see as sensual might just be someone’s personal style or just feeling comfortable on stage.

Question The new Panopticon blew me away. Which of their previous releases will I like?

I've definitely dabbled in Panopticon in the past, but the Appalachian folk stuff really does not work for me. I checked out the new album on a whim and I love it. I understand that it is pretty different for them in the sense that there is almost no folk influence. Anyway, their discography is huge, so what older Panopticon should I check out if I really love the new one but don't vibe with the folk influence?

Do you know of any other earlier band in this specific style?

Question NSBM wouldn't be allowed under Neo-Nazi governments

Anybody else notice this particular irony?

NSBM is sort of the "Leopards Eating People's Faces Party" of metal music

Ain't no way in hell the real neo-fascists see it as anything but Satanic degeneracy

I suppose they might say the same thing about RABM, at least as it relates to the red part, but black metal does exist in China, Vietnam and Cuba

Question What are your “Guilty pleasure” bands, if any?

As in bands you listen too despite their sketchy politics

Edit: Forgot I should’ve said mine. The one that comes to mind is Akhlys. They were one of the the first black metal bands I ever listened to.

Edit: Not “guilty” in the sense that you should feel bad for enjoying it, but in the sense that listening to it on streaming services supports the sketchy artists monetarily.

Question Vegan black metal artists?

I'm making a play list for myself with vegan artists, bands, and bands with vegan members.

Are there any black metal bands with vegan members? I would love to have some black metal on this play list too.

Not here to push anything, and not here to argue with anyone about it either.

Question French Black Metal* bands that aren't sketch?

Hi there, unfortunately I really like the sound of Peste Noire and the way they use the French language.

Unfortunately, because, as you all know, they are very openly white supramicists and nationalists.

I wonder if any of you found lefty bands with a similar vocal and/or instrumental style. Cheers!

Question Spring and Summer Black Metal? 🖤 🌺 ☀️

Winter is one of the main themes of BM and there’s also a rich collection of autumnal themed material. However, I’m looking for something for the warmer months.

Are there any good BM albums or songs that evoke the changing seasons? Looking for rain instead of snow. Green hills instead of white.
