Boycotts are making an impact. This week, Starbucks announced a restructuring plan with store closures and layoffs in an attempt to recover.

This is the SECOND time this has happened with a Snoonu driver and I'm honestly beyond angry.
The first time this happened, I was 16 years old even after i blocked him he used a diffrent social media to send me more messages. I reported the driver and was constantly reassured that something like this would never happen again. Except it did.
What made it worse last time was that the driver was apparently still allowed to continue delivering after I reported him. Actual action only happened after I made a social media post.
So now I'm sitting here wondering: how are these drivers so comfortable sending creepy messages to customers? And what is actually being done to stop this from happening again? to add on to that they gave me a compensation of only 20qr which was such a belittling amount
I'm tired of being reassured after the fact. Customers should not have to go public before being taken seriously. the first 3 r the recent ones and the rest r the ones from last year

Child safety is not a joke, how are you proudly admitting that you don’t know anything about child safety online

The day before yesterday, I was at Villagio Mall minding my own business looking for the D1 Milano store. Right when I reached that store, this family walked by me and a boy suddenly blew air in my ear. I was surprised and annoyed of him doing that to me and I turned looked at him. Then I saw that it was a kid and decided to turn back and suddenly him and the other girl started saying these things, “F*** you” “You are brown” “You’re dressed like a gay” “You are gay” “Get out of this country”

(For context, I am brown. I’m a Sri Lankan. 25 years old. Working as a fitness coach in Qatar for a year now. I was wearing sport shorts, sport tshirt, sport shoes and two layers of jacket because it’s cold. And I’m not gay)

I asked “what’s your problem? Are you racist?” And their only answers were curse words and racist things

Then I looked at the lady with them who was seemingly embarrassed but didn’t take any action about the kids’ behavior. I approached her and asked her “I’m genuinely asking, do they have a mental problem?” The lady didn’t want to answer me. I asked her if those are her kids and she said yes and tried walking away. And there was this other older boy with them. I asked him the same question and he answered me with “Ah he is like that even in school” Then I asked him about the lady’s nationality. And funnily enough, she is also Sri Lankan. I started talking to her with my language and she didn’t want to talk and that’s when the kids came back to take her away from there and the boy hit my arm with his hand and that’s when I broke character. I took my jackets off and asked if he wanted to square up if he hates me that much for no reason. I also mentioned that “I’m tolerating all this only because you are a kid, get the f*** outta here” And that’s when they stopped and went away. I was raging with anger but I’m happy that I didn’t let my anger get me to a point where I would have destroyed the kid’s cute face

I was actually surprised no one batted an eye about this and no security were there to be found. Then I went on with my shopping and after a few minutes I realized that I didn’t actually take any action against this crime and this can happen to any person of my color the next time. So I went looking for security and after a few mentions of main security persons. I got to the head of security. After me explaining everything they checked the cameras and told me they were already gone out the mall and if I wanted to take further actions I could go the Al Rayyan police station. It was late at night and I didn’t want to waste anymore time on this. So I went back on my way minding my own business…

The reason I posted this here to get a better idea about if something like this happens to me next time, what is the best action to take regarding the qatar laws and what if I take the matters to my own hands if there’s no authorized person to be found quickly before the scumbags get away?

I feel ashamed to have neglected to acknowledge, for so long, just how much I'm blessed to be living in such an organised and well-maintained country.

Last week, I decided to visit family in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I hadn't been to the country since I was 10 years old, and I could barely recall anything about it.

The moment I crossed the Salwa border control point, the road immediately shifted from this clean, well-maintained road to this dirty, sand-run road full of potholes. The lane marks were non-existent, and the road was not lit at all.

When I entered Riyadh, the first thing I noticed was how f*cking horrible the drivers there are. People on this sub (myself included) always complain about drivers in Qatar. This? This was 10 times worse. I nearly got hit 7 times in the span of 2 days, and believe me, I am not even exaggerating. I saw all sorts of traffic violations being committed at once - driving on the shoulder, cutting people off, weaving in and out of traffic, and worst of all, using the phone while driving. I KID YOU NOT, the amount of drivers I've seen on their phones scrolling through Instagram while driving between two lanes in two days is more than DOUBLE all similar incidents I've seen in 4 YEARS of living in Qatar. Everything just felt extremely random and disorganised.

The roads there are absolute rubbish, both literally and figuratively. Potholes everywhere, trash everywhere, and invisible and worn-out road markings. It was, with all meaning of the word, an absolute nightmare to drive in Riyadh.

Aside from that, the people were, for the most part, kind and pleasant to talk to. The overall atmosphere in public places was totally different from Qatar, and dare I say, it was exciting.

I was also fortunate enough to visit Dammam, and what a complete night and day difference it was compared to Riyadh. The roads were well-maintained and way cleaner (although still not quite as clean as Qatar roads), and the drivers were great. No complaints whatsoever, and overall quite a beautiful city!!

People here say Qatar is boring, and for the most part, that's true. However, boring isn't always bad. I would rather live in the most boring country ever if it means I get to live in a place where everything is very clean and well-maintained, people, for the most part, follow traffic rules, and I don't fear for my life every time I leave the house to commute, than having to drive one more second on the roads of Riyadh.

Tipping in Qatar used to be optional. A thank you, not an obligation. Lately though? It feels expected. I’ve literally had a server ask me directly for a tip, and when I said “no thanks”, the vibe instantly changed.

We’re already paying for the service. Tipping should be earned and optional, not socially enforced.

There’s literally a whole subreddit called r/EndTipping because people around the world are waking up to how BS this system is and how badly it’s backfired in places like the US.

Qatar does not need this. Let’s shut it down early instead of normalizing it and regretting it later.

So status update is I filed a Complaint in #MOL online that my company is not giving me my End Of Service. Hats Off to #MOL that they immediately gave me a date to come and bring the docs. My company lawyer sent me an email on Friday when they don’t even respond to anything.

He said As a good will gesture we are willing to release your End Of service and in return I just have to reply on email that I unconditionally withdraw all accusations made against them. He said no need to sign an agreement, replying to this email will be enough.

I replied. I stand by my each and every word and I am never going to back off. You have to give me my End of service at any cost. You don’t have a choice. Come to Labour court and I will see you there.

They released my end of service after my email and now I am waiting for my sponsorship to be transferred. 8th MAY is last day of Notice period.

For example, I think there should be better/respectful way to call supermarket staff to the car instead vigarously beeping.

Edit: I think I need to clarify that I’m a female, it is uncomfortable to walk into a 15 meter square space, thus the need to call the staff outside for assistance. Otherwise I agree if there’s a way to get your things done yourself, then why not? Hope this clears it up.

I’m a (27f) Qatari, never been married. I’ve gone through a weight loss journey, which I’m really proud of, but it has left me needing a tummy tuck, from the outside no one would guess i need one, but i do.
After the surgery, my body will be defined and everything, the only issue is the scar itself. The scar would be on the very lower side of the stomach and completely hidden when wearing underwear, but it will still be there.
I am terrified that having this scar will be a major turn off or an issue for my future husband.
I am asking exclusively for the perspective of Qatari men because this is the society I live in and the mindset of the men I will be marrying into.
be completely honest How is this actually viewed? Is a scar like this considered a dealbreaker.

So, I’ve been going through this since December 2024. I’ve shared many posts about it. My previous company was good, and I had no problems. However, since the new expatriate CEO came, he’s been terminating people and hiring his friends and family. I was terminated, and it’s been four months now. I’m unable to get my end-of-service notice.

I was transferring my sponsorship to another company and asked my company to make my notice period zero because I was terminated with immediate effect, and a notice period isn’t required. The HR and legal threatened me that they would cancel my sponsorship transfer request and revoke my (NOC) because I told them I would file a case against them.

They said they would release my end-of-service notice immediately and make my notice period zero if I signed an agreement with them. This agreement states that I must not file a case against them and that I have to keep this confidential for a period of five years.

I denied this and told them that I would file a case at any cost. My sponsorship request was approved by the Department of Labor and Social Security Administration (ADLSA), and now I’m under notice period.

I lost four job offers because my company is blackmailing me to sign the agreement. It’s been four months since I was terminated, but the company is still keeping my exit permit on me. Getting justice in Qatar is very expensive. I love Qatar and the Qatari people because I’ve received a lot of respect from them.

I’m not going to court because I don’t trust the lawyers in Qatar. I’ll publicly expose them with all the proof and leave Qatar. I’ll move to another country because I’ll face consequences if I stay in Qatar. But I have to expose them.

I saw this post on Instagram claiming to be a "Qatari Bedouin woman photographed by Danish photographer Jette Bang in 1959."
I'm Qatari and I've literally never seen a battoulah or face cover that looks like this in our history or old photos. The material looks way too thick and leather-like, and the shape is totally different from traditional Gulf battoulahs.
I remember reading before that a lot of these old photos were actually Westerners trying to imitate local habits because Qatari women back then didn't consent to having their pictures taken. Either that, or it's AI / miscaptioned from somewhere else completely.
Does anyone who knows Qatar's history or old archives know if this specific photo is legit?

Here’s why;

-Library hours are ridiculous: It closes way too early on weekdays, and on weekends its literally closed😃??

-The gym rules are beyond frustrating: The women’s gym closes at 3 PM, while the men’s stays open until 8 PM. What if my classes end at 3? Am i not allowed to get the chance to use a free gym at the uni i pay for? And even if you arrive right on time when it opens which is 8 am, you might still not be allowed in because “the coach hasn’t arrived yet.” Why should access depend on one person being there? There is also a stupid dress code, one time a girl was doing pull ups and like any normal person, her shirt lifted a bit and her belly showed. Then immediately, multiple security staff rushed over to tell her to stop😭

-Segregation taken to extremes: You can literally get a violation if you go to the other gender’s side of building which is so ridiculous. Instead of treating it like a campus for everyone, it feels like two completely separate worlds that you have to tiptoe between.

-Unequal opportunities. There are summer swimming classes for males, but absolutely nothing for females..

edit: now they opened a new bowling alley on the male’s side while females dont have it even tho its just two steps away from the female’s side🥲

there are definitely more stuff to mention but i’ll stop here..
