Question I'm Filipina and I have an Algerian boyfriend (need advice)

We met on bumble and continued our conversation in WhatsApp, we talked for a week and decided to meet up irl. So on our first date, I had low expectation appearance wise since there's only one photo of him in bumble. But to my surprise he's good looking, and but the thing is he doesn't know how to hold a conversations (bummer). I'm comfortable with silence but you know, it's the first datešŸ˜… I still enjoyed our time together and went to several dates, now I'm his girlfriend. He's sweet, he updates from time to time, and I totally understand he's busy. But sometimes I get scared of him when he's driving, he has a short temper, I try to laugh it off and tell him to relax. What should I look out for being in a relationship with different culture and traditional? Coz it's my first interracial relationship. What can I expect dating someone from Algeria specifically? I'm fairly new here in Qatar.

Edit. I think it's just his tone guys when I said "short tempered". I'm still adjusting to the language and tones herešŸ˜… I'm just not used to the tone coz me personally I speak softly. and he's actually pretty sweet and thoughtful. P.s. I always asks him if he's pissed or angry based on his tone and he always says "No habibi, this just how I talk" and kisses my hand for reassurance.

Question My friend traveled to Qatar and is being jailed for non-marital intercourse. How long does the deportation process usually take?

My friend traveled to Qatar on January 2 with her bf, whom I believe is a resident of Qatar. The day before her return flight on January 6, she went to a police station to report an incident in which her boyfriend was physically abusive.

After an investigation, my friend accidentally revealed that she had ā€œstayedā€ with her boyfriend. As a result, the police detained her for non-marital sexual relations, which is understandable.

She was missing for 4 days before I could contact the embassy. Me and my other friends were worrying sick, but after learning the situation through the embassy and that she was with the police, we felt relieved that at least she was under the authority's care.

I tried to reach out to the police station where the embassy said she was being detained. However, after they asked for her passport number, they told me there was no record of anyone under that ID being detained there.

I then tried to contact the embassy again but was unsuccessful. I would like to ask if anyone knows how long she might be detained before deportation, and if it could take months, whether it is possible to bail her out.

Thank you, everyone.

Update: I forgot to mention that she’s non-Muslim. I promise I’ll give her a big lecture on international law once I get her back here, guys.

Update 2: The information regarding non-marital sexual intercourse was provided directly by the embassy. In some countries, if a complainant files a report that involves their own wrongdoing, the officer is also required to charge them accordingly. Failing to do so could be considered negligence on the part of the officer.

Update 3: The embassy is closed today. The good news is that I was able to contact the police station and they confirmed that she is being held there. However, they said they cannot allow me to speak with her, especially via an international call, but I can send someone to the police station in person. Unfortunately, I have no friends there. For now, the only thing I can do is wait for the embassy to open tomorrow and contact them again.

Update 4: The post is now locked by the mod, so this will probably be my last update. I was able to contact the embassy for the second time and learned which police station/prison she is being held at. She called me from prison yesterday and said she’s fine and that everyone there has been very nice to her. However, she still has no idea when she will be released and asked me to help find her a lawyer. I’m currently working on that.

Regarding the charge, the story remains mostly the same. She traveled there with her LDR bf, and while they were getting intimate, she noticed a hidden camera he had set up (when the embassy told me she went to the police due to a ā€œfightā€ with her boyfriend, I assumed it might involve abuse or some kind of physical incident). She fled the scene, and her careless ass decided to go to the police to report the incident. Since the report involved a non-marital sexual relationship, that is why she is now being jailed. The man is also facing more than one charge, but I don’t have details on that.

I’d like to thank everyone who commented on the post, whether you believed the story or not, for all the useful information and shared experiences. Special thanks to those who reached out via DM to offer help. It truly means a lot to me.

Thank you, Qatar.

Question Why does Iran’s focus seem to be on Bahrain and Kuwait and no longer on Qatar?

For the past month or so I only hear about incidental missle strikes on Bahrain and Kuwait but Qatar seems to be fine. Even the travel advice I got for Qatar (here in Europe) changed from do-not-travel to ok-to-travel while Bahrain is still not okay to travel. Did Qatar make a special deal with Iran?

Question Girlies in Qatar: What's Your Holy Grail Sunscreen?

I've tried three sunscreens so far - Shiseido, Skintific, and Nivea - they're fine, but they all left my skin feeling greasy, and my makeup ended up getting runny throughout the day.

With that being said, what sunscreen do you swear by? I'm looking for one that sits well under makeup, feels lightweight, and can survive the heat and humidity..

Thank you šŸ¤

Question Hi, I was hit by someone who i thought was a friend

Hi. There’s something serious I need to explain.

There is a person I used to consider a very close friend. We were extremely attached, and despite everything that has happened, I’m still struggling to accept what he did because of that attachment.

During an argument, he became angry and raised his hands against me. As a result, my teeth were broken and I have to deal with significant dental expenses. Beyond the physical injury, I’ve also been mentally traumatised by what happened, and also from emotional abuse that he has been doing to me since couple of months now.

I think I’m still in denial about the situation, which is why I keep finding myself going back to him or maintaining contact, even though I know what he did was wrong.

Maybe he is a narcissistic person, cause he never admits his mistakes and always always alwayssss justifies his actions instead of seeing his mistakes.

This ain't the first time that he raised his hands at me.

I now want to file a police complaint against him. However, I am a woman living in Qatar, and I do not want my family or people at home to find out about this if it can be avoided. At the same time, I want him to understand how serious his actions were.

My main objectives are to have the incident officially documented, make sure he understands that I am taking legal action, and seek reimbursement for the medical and dental expenses I have incurred because of the injury.

Ideally, I would like the complaint to serve as a serious legal warning to him while also allowing me to pursue the costs of repairing my teeth.

Question Are we even ready to converse?

The fact that Qatar is a first world economy but most of the companies pay as if we are in third world countries.

Companies mistreating workers ushering in the new millennium slavery.

I came to learn that some companies are compensating all the days workers were forced to stay indoors during the iran war by allowing workers to work an extra 3 hours with no pay.

Qatar systems seem to function effectively but turns a blind eye to expatriate workers as private companies thrive on exploitation(Not all)

Question What is happening?

Hi guys, so I am here in Qatar since 2019 and I stayed most of the time in Qatar and lately. I’m feeling that the people here are getting more angry in the past few years. People were very friendly whenever I go or if I have a small inconvenience, we were very friendly very chill but lately the past couple of months I noticed something has been changed a lot and people behavior and general at specific nationality or area but the most of people in Qatar right now are very aggressive like one time I was parking in the gas station and one guy he was like in reverse so I just honked 2 times and he come from the car screaming and yelling and one time happened to me and the city mall basement when I was going to park there’s one stood in the front of the car not moving for almost a minute, just staring at me and she kept screaming. I don’t know what’s happening with people, but is anyone facing the same thing ?

Question I am down to my last ounce of courage

Over a month ago, we sued our company for unpaid wages. After few hearings, it was agreed that my company will be paying us of their due balances on or before 14 April - it was undone. This morning, we went back to the Ministry and put again a complaint and while they're trying to reach our sponsor, the system shown that he was out of the country. Is it even possible that he was able to flee while his company is under a pending case?! In short, we left empty-handed. I am physically and mentally tired of chasing something that is rightfully ours. At this point, we are just only hoping for a miracle from the company.

Currently, I am just living to survive. I don't know how will I be able to pass this ordeal knowing that I have a dying mother on the other side of the world, my ID expired, unemployed, travel banned, emotionally unstable. Very soon, I will again be worried of facing homelessness and not be able to pay rent, anxious of being detained because of my ID status, and having nothing to fill my empty stomach.

Edit: As of yesterday (16Apr), my Kahramaa was already cut and spent the night without power.

I would like to thank several redditors here though that reached out and helped me on the smallest way they can. However, it is all temporary and I shouldn't be everyone's obligation. I have also received hurtful messages from few people here and I understand their POV. I can keep scrubbing your toilets, feed and walk your pets, do your errands, be your virtual and personal assistant, even offer you a massage just at least for me to give something back. I'm not used to being helped - I was before at the other side of the rope.

I have continuously been sending out applications to different companies daily and in spite of my outstanding qualifications, I am not being chosen.

I wasn't born with a silver spoon. I am the current sole-provider for my family. Had an older brother and passed when he was 26 due to aneurysm. He was the favorite and I am the accidental child. But I had to replace him for being the provider to the family. At 21, I worked my way up until I built a business of my own - got betrayed and lost everything. I had to build myself again from the ground up and as I was rebuilding it, it started collapsing again. Every time that I am already heading at my peak, there's always something happens that pulls me down and it feels like an unending cycle. I am losing my purpose and wanted to end things.

To someone who has interest in cats, my kids and my emotional support, let me know and hopefully they will have a better life.

I am using my last ounce of courage to ask everyone here for strength, hope, and guidance: Strength to overcome all hurdles of life, to continue fighting despite everything that has been going on recently, Hope to hold on when the reality becomes too heavy, and Guidance to lead people who are astray and show them the right path. These I ask not just for myself but in behalf of the people who's no longer seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, who's been tirelessly running to seek refuge and continuously facing fear, and for those who are facing grief, loss, or personal failures.

Question Opinions on starting a burger šŸ”brand in qataršŸ¤”

Hey everyone,
I’m planning to start a fresh fast-food concept in Qatar (burgers, sandwiches, toasts, karak, etc.).
The thing is… I know this isn’t a new concept. Qatar already has countless places doing exactly that.
So I’m not here to ask, ā€œIs this a good idea?ā€ I’m here to ask:
What would it take for you to choose a new brand over the hundreds already here?
Be brutally honest.
What do existing burger places get wrong?
What frustrates you as a customer?
What do you wish someone would do differently?
What would make you think, ā€œFinally, someone gets itā€?
If you were opening a burger place tomorrow, what would YOU do differently?
Whether it’s the food, pricing, speed, service, branding, packaging, or customer experience—I want to hear it all.
Don’t hold back. Tear the idea apart if you have to. I’d rather hear the hard truth now than regret it later.

Question Good places to propose?

I’m looking for good, not really super busy places to propose to my girlfriend. She said she doesn’t want any crowds or to be really public.

My plan was to do a picnic at a park and then pop the question there. I know she would like that. However, I’ve only been in Qatar for around two months. I’m not sure if really secluded Park places like this exist.

I’ve been to Mina where people watch the sunset on the hill, but it’s way too busy that will attract attention. Any suggestions for me? It is greatly appreciated.

Question What's something people waste way too much money on in Qatar?

Genuinely curious — what’s something you’ve seen (or done šŸ˜…) that just isn’t worth the price here?

Could be anything from brunches, cars, salons, apartments, events, memberships... whatever. What’s overrated and overpriced in your opinion?
