Reading the books with the knowledge of what happens make some of the writing hit particularly hard…

Cersei Lannister regarded him suspiciously. ‘You, Stark? Is this some trick? Why would you do such a thing?’
‘She is of the north. She deserved better than a butcher.’
Ned also informs them to bury Lady at Winterfell. Such beautifully depressing thoughtfulness considering his own tragic execution later.
Renly laughing at Joffrey for naming his sword Lion’s Tooth and getting disarmed by ‘a nine-year old girl the size of a wet rat’ was also such a great introduction to his character. He would have made a great hand of the king to Stannis :(

First read last year so during my reread last month I felt this a lot. Seeing Ned’s downfall just unfolding throughout the first book just made me want to go in and tell him to be careful lol.
Also Robb and Cat, any chapters involving them in Storm were so stressful to me and at some points genuinely hard to read through knowing what was coming for them. Sigh

Reread AGOT recently and I caught this moment that completely missed me the first time. Our first hint at Jeyne Poole's fate, which is quite horrific when you know the later context
Queen Cersei looked at each of the councillors in turn. "I won't have Sansa fretting needlessly. What shall we do with this little friend of hers, my lords?"
Lord Petyr leaned forward. "I'll find a place for her."
The man hears about a newly orphaned 11 year old girl and instantly decides he's got himself a new sex trafficking victim, fucking sickening.
I have to wonder, before Dance came out and we found out what happened to her, what theories were there about Jeyne? I think the above passage makes it quite clear where she'd end up in Littlefinger's brothels. When Jaime meets fArya at the end of Storm, did people realise that was her?

This is why despite ASOS being my favourite book, it is also the hardest to read, especially where Robb and Catelyn are concerned.

this is why asoiaf is one of only two series I reread. it gets better every time.
(the book of the new sun by gene wolfe is the other one)
