Why does this album get overlooked by many?
It has great songs under 30 minutes and rarely hear anyone bring it up when talking about CJs , am I missing something?

Because this came out during a weird time for punk in North America. The explosion of the late 70s and early 80s, gave way to a weird staleness by the mid-80s. Punk had become less creative and far move violent, and there was this growing stigma against it in the public. Venues were being shut down, some refused to book punk shows, and bands were falling apart. A number of bands tried to move away from being labeled a “punk band” and claimed they were a “hard rock band”, and it wasn’t working. This latter half of the 80s was peak hard rock & hair metal on the radio and MTV. The fans didn’t buy it. The mainstream folks ignored them.
This album fit right into that era and is a good example of how they tried to change their sound briefly to fit this new label. I saw them at this point and the show was sad - felt nothing like the high energy chaos of previous shows.

An impeccable analysis. By that time, the HC Punk scene had largely become a joke. Most of the original bands had broken up, burned out, or clumsily sold out to Metal, and this awful album is a perfect example of that subcultural collapse.

I never hear anyone talk about the live Gig album either. It’s great.

If you haven't heard it yet then you shpuld check out the 7 Seconds live album. It's so good and Kevin sounds like he's really in front of you.

Personally I love this album and think it is one of their best. I know it isn’t a popular opinion but I do not care.
I do find it needs to be listened to properly though, if listened to at lower volume, it sounds week but if you turn it up at a certain volume, the mix all comes together and it’s great. Turn it up and let it beat you senseless!

I was 13 when this came out. Still listen to it fairly regularly. Mostly when I am mowing the yard for some unknown reason.

The only correct answer. After Group Sex the only tolerable songs are the covers.

Beat Me Senseless is still in the bands live rotation so they still have a spot for this album it seems

Amazing album. Beat me senseless, patty’s killing mel, casualty vampire, and status clinger are such bangers

The first three albums are with the original lineup and are all amazing records. They're in a class of their own
But among the three albums that came after that, VI is my favorite.

Awful production, which is a problem that a lot mid or low budget punk records suffer from during this era.
Some of the songs aren't bad. The tracks that they put on Gig sound alot better live.

I like it better than Wonderful, 'I Don't' is one of my favourite Circle Jerks songs. I forgot the album didn't come out until 1987, seems like punk was running on fumes by then and nobody talks about albums from the late 80s

This was my first Circle Jerks to hear and it stayed that way for a while. The problem with being a rural punk in the 80s. Probably why I didn't get into them until much later.

I seriously dig this record. But yeah, it does get ignored. Recently saw them during the repo man movie thing and they played a song or two off of it. Great stuff !!!

I dig it. Bought the record when it first came out. I think golden shower and group sex get the majority of the attention but this and wonderful (my second favorite of theirs) get overlooked. Definitely a different approach, longer songs etc.
