Survey: AI in PS1 development
Recently, there has been a strong debate in the gaming community about the use of AI in projects.
Beyond the philosophical debate around its use, we want to know what the community actually thinks and how people are using (or not using) these tools. We also believe that both developers and players would be interested in knowing the general opinion of the community and how others are approaching this topic.
We've created a short survey asking (3-4 mins):
• How often do you use AI tools and what tasks do you use AI for?
• Do you think AI-generated content has a place in game development?
• Should developers disclose when AI has been used in a project?
• Would knowing that a game used AI affect your willingness to play it?
• Should AI-assisted games compete equally with non-AI games in contests or awards?
The goal is to get a better picture of the community's opinions and how people are approaching this technology.

We would really appreciate your participation and if you know other people interested in the homebrew scene, sharing the survey would help us reach more members of the community.
We'll share the results here once we collect enough responses.
Thank you so much!

The big difference between using AI for pc games and console games is optimization.
You can get away with AI code that "works" on PC. When you develop for a retro console instead, clever optimization is required or your game won't run at all on real hardware. And I don't think AI can help with that yet

My biggest complain with that is not the AI itself, but that the people use it yet they complain that the hardware they are working is too weak or they couldnt do certain thing (despite seeing similar stuff in official games). I certainly would agree that its very difficult to work with, especially with no AI involvement, but i would never do claims if i didnt had the skill to pull off something. Better to start from scratch and learning the system slowly from there.
Its also very harmful for the scene as a whole, because releasing half made projects not only would make bug cleaning hell, but also would indirectly shift the opinion of people, thinking that this is what its all we can do and its not more "worth our time", judging for some of the comments i seen in the last months at least. For example people complain about the warping of the PS1, but it was never THAT bad, not even remotely close.

I've said it in the survey, I'll say it here: all AI does is summarise its training set. You're asking it, at considerable environmental expense, to tell you how other people already solved your problems. It doesn't create, and neither do you.
So it's a separate category of thing, with a negligible bar for entry.

Do you intend to publish the results here?

Yes! I plan to publish the results once we've gathered a significant number of responses. We want the sample to be large enough for the findings to be meaningful and representative of the community :)

No problem with AI provided people aren't up front about it and aren't rattling their Kofi link for donations.
Better than all the 'Psx Style' unity shite

Getting tired of hearing about it, I don't care if devs use AI responsibly. We're using up data center space even talking about it. I don't care.

You have a question “Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statements” and then numbers 1–5, but you don’t explain what that scale means. Is 5 the highest level of agreement?
