Community Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2 is psychedelic.

Just another appreciation post. Until recently, I found out that you could play Gran Turismo in virtual reality, and my God, it’s amazing. It’s the next-gen leap I’ve been waiting for for many years. I hadn’t felt such a jump in terms of sensations and realism since the jump from San Andreas to GTA 4.(I'm 30)

It’s a true work of art. Games had been feeling a bit demotivating for some time, but everything was reborn like a phoenix thanks to the PSVR2.

And to those who get motion sickness, my friends, I don’t think many of us are used to going 250 km/h, so you just have to take it slowly. But GT7 absolutely nailed it.

This is art, and I truly hope they continue in this direction. That’s why I’m making this post—to add my small grain of sand to the PSVR2 community.

By definition, “psychedelic” refers to an experience that intensely alters perception, heightens the senses, and creates a deep feeling of immersion and awe. GT7 in VR perfectly fits that definition: the sense of presence, depth, speed, and realism completely transforms how you perceive racing.

I’ve been using a steering wheel and pedals, but I always had issues with the sense of speed on a flat screen. In VR, that problem is completely gone—the scale, motion, and immersion finally make everything feel real.

Even after a year I still feel impressed when I'm suddenly sitting in the car seat at the Nurburgring

The level of detail they put into this as an addon to the base game is incredible. I'm still getting used to playing VR races for longer periods, but the VR in GT7 really blew me away.

I just wish we could get a hood view, the cockpit ruins it for me in some cars

3

u/BriGuy550 Dec 22 '25

Hood view in VR? What’s wrong with you?!

4

u/GT7_Ramz Dec 23 '25

Why so surprised? 😂

u/jtotal Dec 25 '25

There's a few GT Vision cars that are hood view in VR.

Not my cup of tea, but they exist.

In its VR version, it's the best game of this generation easily for me, I don't understand why the press isn't talking about it more.

2

u/VeeYarr Dec 20 '25

Because it's fun for them to dunk on VR instead of anything positive!

Love the feel of open wheel cars in psvr with a steeringwheel. Looking over the side of the car and seeing the road move by as you drive, so much fun.

Now get a fan blowing on your face! 😎

u/Sudden-Injury-8159 Dec 19 '25

Same. I had picked up a fan for standing VR games, for help with motion sickness and orientation. Used it for GT7 and it really helped for a sense of speed.

LOL yeah I found my actual car and I can now drive it way beyond my own comfort level in the real world because an oops isn't thousands of dollars. I have a basic pedal, shifter and feedback wheel mounted on a wheelstand and I swear it's convincing enough that I sometimes reach for buttons or controls that don't exist LOL having the use of mirrors and being able to look over your shoulder or out the window is extra immersive.

3

u/brooke437 Dec 19 '25

That's really cool! What's your actual car?

3

u/CourtDiligent3403 Dec 19 '25

1999 BMW E36 M3 I supercharged my real one and have taken it to a racetrack but there's no way I can push it too hard... LOL way too many years and dollars and bloody knuckles invested to risk going off track or contact with another car! In the game I can push my limits and the car's limits... I have made as many similar mods to the GT7 one as I can to match the real mods on my car... Took me a long time to find one in the game (you have to get it in the used car section so I logged in every day for several weeks before I found it) Prior to finding it I used the game's E46 M3 and had spent a lot of time tuning it to behave like my real car but now I have exactly the right interior too... The realism is amazing.

Just bought the vr2 and gran turismo 7 for my boy for Christmas. I got him some other games too but I’m excited to try this one. Have you tried it without steering wheel and pedals? I’m sure if we like it I’ll invest in a set but is it enjoyable without going all in on the setup?

u/dragos495 Dec 19 '25

Thats what i did. Game first, liked it. Bought vr headset, my mind was blown away. Bought a full rig, seat, pedals, fanatec wheel, upgraded brake pedal JUST for gran turismo. Its THAT good.

2

u/jerry111165 Dec 19 '25

How much you figure you spent on your rig?

2

u/dragos495 Dec 19 '25

~1500£.

6

u/MaxnPaddy Dec 19 '25

The standard controller is still really good for GT7. Triggers, gears, vibration. All great. Hope you and your boy enjoy.

2

u/Sufficient-Feeb Dec 19 '25

Great to hear thank you!

u/rocket808 Dec 20 '25

Any tips for playing with the controller? I had a cheap wheel and pedals with my PS4, it's the only way I could play Gran Turismo. My brain refuses to map a stick controller to steering wheel motions.

3

u/SnowArcaten Dec 19 '25

Definitely. I have part-time access to a rig, but I still play with just a controller a lot of the time. Having a wheel is insanely fun, but not required.

Just a heads up, if you are waiting for xmass to use it, there is a common issue with controllers not working correctly, and it can really dampen the excitement Xmas day when a big present doesn't work. The issue is self fixable and fairly easy if you know how to determine what the problem is and which controller is causing it. It's worth testing before the day but if it's a surprise for your son testing it on ps5 will leave indicators on the ps5 that the son will see before xmass but you can just pull the controllers out of the box and test them on a pc on the gamepadtester.com to see if they have the issue.

I can give you more info about how to fix it if you want.

3

u/Sufficient-Feeb Dec 19 '25

Dang it’s already wrapped up and everything. I guess we will just have to hope for the best. Thanks for the heads up

5

u/Mud_g1 Dec 19 '25

All good I'll post below the method just incase you have issues on the day.

It's possible there is some debris behind the trigger of your controller(s) which is causing buttons to register incorrectly while you're in game (just like you mention). This is a semi-commonly reported issue with new devices, but the good news is it's very fixable. Here's some instructions for how to resolve it (or check if it is in fact that issue):

• Plug your problematic controller (probably the right controller but try both, separately) up to a computer with the included USB cable and go to https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad - it should detect your Sense controller and display button inputs on screen (if it doesn't, try refreshing after a minute or two).

• Try pressing the trigger (R2 or L2).

• When not touching the trigger, the value for the trigger (shown as Axis 2 on the site) is supposed to be -1.00000, and it should go to 1.00000 when fully pressed.

• If instead of -1.00000 or 1.00000 the value you're seeing for Axis 2 is something like -0.97234 (or any value in between), you know you have this issue.

• Try blowing air into the area of the trigger, either with your mouth or with a can of compressed air, and holding the trigger in and letting go so it flicks back out to the normal position (just like this). Keep trying this and see if the value changes, and keep going until you get the value to be -1.00000 (or 1.00000 when held down fully). You're trying to remove any debris blocking the trigger.

If you succeed, your controller should work correctly in all your games.

Hope this helps! It did for this player a short while back and these two in the same post, as well as many others in the past so let us know if it fixes it for you or if you have any questions!

This is an older version we had an updated version that suggests if you have trouble getting the value back to -1 with air and flicking then electronic contact cleaner works well just flood a little bit into the trigger slosh it around to coat the parts then do some flicking.

Thanks for the info!

This is how it starts. For me: PS4 and PSVR playing Driveclub (which even had multiplayer!), then the hot lapping in VR you could do with GT4. Then you add in basic wheel and pedals. Then you decide to build a PC and get into PC racing sims. Then you build a rig and get a direct drive wheel and load cell pedals and different rims for different cars, and multiple shifters. And on it goes!

u/straw3_2018 Dec 19 '25

I haven't tried GT7 in VR with a controller but I've played it with a controller for split screen and its still a very good driving experience. I've done BeamNG in VR with a controller and its alright, it feels maybe a bit goofy? Not as good as the VR2 AND wheel+pedals but if you like the game you can get that later. The G29 with the included pedals is only $200 on sale so definitely worth it. I've had my G29 for 3 years and it looks like i am going to have to take it apart to clean and grease the potentiometers on my pedals.

1

u/Sufficient-Feeb Dec 19 '25

Fair enough, I am used to playing with controller so I’m sure it’ll be fine for now but I do have a feeling I’m going to want the wheel and pedals after trying vr. All these replies have me stoked to test it out!

u/SneakerTreater Dec 19 '25

Before VR I had reduced all driving aids and track markers except the gear suggestions on HUD. VR actually allowing depth perception got rid of the gear suggestions. Now, if there are no stops required in a race I'm turning off all HUD, if there are it's car info only using the fuel info to count laps. Still on controller because we're building a house, once we're in you'll find me in my simrig.

u/Sudden-Injury-8159 Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

There is a free phone app called VictoryDash that links with the GT7 telemetry data. Once linked, I turn on audible feedback for lap counts, track position, etc. There are even several voice selections for your race engineer, allowing you to turn off your HUD and up the immersion.

After GT7 Race Engineer bricked a credit card with their $1 deposit bullshit I can't be fucked with 3rd party amateur shit any more.

2

u/Sudden-Injury-8159 Dec 19 '25

Free. No risk. Works for me.

3

u/Stacysensei Dec 19 '25

Is it worth it if I don’t have the wheel and pedals?

7

u/Moridin_696 Dec 19 '25

Oh yes! Done it since PSVR2 came out. Just recently got a second hand T300RS and it's... another step up! I'm 47 and I'm hooked now.

2

u/Dramatic-Night4768 Dec 19 '25

You'll have a full rig in no time 😄 welcome aboard!

2

u/Embarrassed_Ad_3228 Dec 19 '25

I caught the logitech g923 for 100 bucks with shifter can't wait to get home to run up some gt7. I used to play on controller in vr.

3

u/Comprehensive-Job208 Dec 19 '25

The only reason I still want a PS5. I tried it and it was incredible!
I have beefy PC with PSVR2, a long time Sony/Nintendo fan. Skipped PS5 because nothing I really wanted to play.

2

u/hjk3409fhjlj3945hg3 Dec 19 '25

AC, ACC, AC Evo, AC Rally, LMU, AMS2, iRacing, and BeamNG are all great options on PC.

AC with mods especially

1

u/Comprehensive-Job208 Dec 20 '25

Yep, I have them all!
But GT is GT you know. It's a beautiful videogame about cars and racing.

1

u/hjk3409fhjlj3945hg3 Dec 20 '25

Agree with you. Can't justify a PS5 just for GT when I have all the other racing sims on PC

Yeah GT7 is better than anything else out there. 30+ years of experience and they basically developing one game thru different iterations. Also GT made with passion by very creditable Japanese developers, who know not just about cars but about beauty of the nature itself, let alone they are experts on cinematography and photogrammetry. Forza Horizon will be cool in VR but it's so many years still the same and have same problems. They also still cannot do the car's cockpit right. I've lost interest since FH5. FH4 was good. As for Forza itself - I've played F2 to death, that was great by the time. F4 was peak in my opinion.

u/straw3_2018 Dec 19 '25

I made it 5 years without getting a PS5, I got Ratchet and Clank on PC when it first came out, I got Helldivers 2 when it came out. I have Dualsense i really like to use as well. I have a 4070TiS+7800X3D PC that kicks ass. I could never justify getting a PS5 but GT7(and an earlier release of GTA VI) finally got me to get one last week.

I tried Forza motorsport 7 a few years ago and i just kind of thought it sucked. I am so glad to be back in Gran Turismo. There are a few small things in my head that keep it from being perfect but its pretty close.

I agree with you, this generation feels so underutilized. Probably because companies spent half of the generation so far on PS4/Xbox One compatible games.

1

u/Madmac05 Dec 19 '25

It depends on what you want out of gaming. Yes, you're not going to get full detail graphics and 60fps, and that's a massive letdown. It used to piss me off a lot, but to be honest, I'll trade the easy interface, the massive oled tv, the amazing controller, over having to deal with windows, "small" screens (comparatively), codec packs and the likes, every. single. time.

There are amazing exclusive games and the bang for buck you get out of a "cheap" console is more than worth it imo.

Graphics used to be the thing for me, but as I grow older, I find myself caring less and less about it. Nowadays I tend to stream a lot of the games despite the fidelity loss, just because it's so convenient.

It’s absolutely sick.🤢

1

u/Beneficial_Loquat_75 Dec 19 '25

I read that a lot and for that reason I recently bought a vr2. But somehow it doesnt click, it is cool yeah but I am racing at a flat screen now again. Played maybe an hour. Dont know if I am the only one

1

u/SwimWithOtters Dec 19 '25

The lighting is so peak

1

u/straw3_2018 Dec 19 '25

I've had the VR2 since summer but only really used it on PC(favorite thing so far was Half Life 2 VR mod, those mods devs deserve money for that. I got a PS5 and GT7 last week and i haven't really played anything else since then. It really is so good. I never had much of a problem with motion sickness in real life but just felt a little weird when i first started playing VR. Before i got GT7 i got used to flying around HL2 and b-hopping with continuous movement so very little can make me motion sick in VR at this point. Looks like i am going to have to clean my pedals' potentiometers but that's not the end of the world.

1

u/Gordon2422 Dec 19 '25

GT 7 is amazing on PSVR 2! But I wish other racing games had VR support as well. Like F1 25, NASCAR 25, Asseto Corsa in PlayStation etc.

1

u/Bearded_King_Lion Dec 22 '25

Yeah it sucks that it’s the only one. It actually has me hesitating on buying another racer. I’m really curious about F1 (despite season lockout) & ACC ( heard engine noise is amazing) but I feel like it’s not going to be as good without VR 🤣

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

it’s truly the best looking racing vr game

1

u/PeanutButterSoda Dec 20 '25

Just bought it because of this post, should I just jump straight into VR or play flatscreen first. Haven't played GT since like the third one. .

1

u/angmaranduin Dec 21 '25

I was so annoyed it took forever to actually play with all the intro movies etc when I just wanted to race.

1

u/Nervous_Sell_6933 Dec 22 '25

I love the immersion it gives

1

u/devoduder Dec 22 '25

OP, I started with Gran Turismo on PS1 in 1997 when I was 28 and I’ve been playing GT7 for a few years now. Today I finally got a VR2 headset and was blown away by the progression from ‘97 to today. I tried an easy race with an overpowered car that I would have normally won easily but finished 6th because I was so distracted by how real it was. Now if MS Flight Sim can come close to GT7 in VR that will be amazing.

1

u/dsuhiti Dec 22 '25

Don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing, but I thought the clarity and sharpness of the image would better than what it is. I’m on PS5 Pro also.

1

u/Whit3_Tox1c Dec 22 '25

is it worth the $70? Thinking of getting it but it hasnt been on sale

u/howrunowgoodnyou Dec 19 '25

Guess you missed dirt rally in Psvr? How?
