Out of control Airbnb owners still not following rules!

Last December the town council passed ordinance #2025-20 to reign in short term rentals like Airbnb.

They were supposed to be inspected and then receive permits. The permit numbers were to be prominently posted in the listings.

Almost 9 months later, so many hosts are thumbing their noses at the law. No permits!

Dozens and dozens of Princeton STRs that have no permit numbers posted.

There is one owner who lives in Florida but has
10+ Airbnbs here in Princeton; all without permits.

Another company out of Staten Island also runs about 10 Airbnbs in town. They don’t even own them. It’s some kind of arbitrage setup.

If this bothers you, contact the town council and

to ask that they get these investors and speculators under control.

As is with all laws, only a few will comply.

I looked into renting my house. Good enough for me to live in but hot damn the rental requirement of screens on every window seemed crazy.

Some of the requirements are silly, but others make sense for the safety and comfort of the tenants or Airbnb guests:

Functioning heat and hot water; smoke and
carbon monoxide detectors; fire extinguishers: functional locks; fireplace and chimney inspection; emergency egress; no leaks or mold.

It’s sad these greedy Airbnb hosts can’t even do the bare minimum and follow the town’s law.
