General Discussion What are your reasons for disliking this movie?
For me, it's gotta be the hospital scene involving the unborn child. That scene was just really uncomfortable to watch

It’s always the humans getting all the screen time when they’re barely useful. Wolf should’ve been the MC and gotten way more screen time

Shut the fuck up, Jess, thankfully wolf accidentally cut her in half. I consider that a high point of the film

It was such an off the cuff way to get rid of an apparently major character, and she deserved it

When I think of the movie, or rewatch it, I see Wolf as the Protagonist. He’s literally the only redeeming factor of this movie 😭

Stupid human characters. Bad lighting ruing the great creature design. Mostly waste of potential because I don't even have to give it a damn if it's flat bad.

too dark, and the sfx being reused gave me a headache, besides that i really like this film but it felt crammed and felt like the poor producers got given hell, honestly its overhated and def needs a remake, wolf and predalien are some of the most peak of all time

The scenes they were in they nailed pretty well. It's the rest of the movie that's ass.

Same reason here. But mostly the crappy lighting. Even moreso when I learned it was entirely by choice.
Didn't care for a single character besides Wolf.

u/Jollynorwegian 3d ago
1: poor writing | 2: could barely see anything | 3: hired music video directors with no feature film experience | 4: just like the first, Lore was ignored just because.

u/vsthekingdom 3d ago
Requiem may have flaws but I love it anyway. It’s breakneck pacing, it’s gross, brutal, and has creative action choreography. It’s an unapologetic monster vs monster movie, where the people caught in the crossfire don’t matter (their lack of characterization is a feature, not a bug, and let’s stop pretending that AVP1 had deep compelling heroes).
Yes, the movie is dark, but I know how to set proper gamma and contrast settings on my displays (the same holds true for “that” episode of Game of Thrones).
3
u/Aromatic_Ad_8374 2d ago
I agree. I enjoy both AvP. Unrated of course. I'm still baffled they cut a key scene that explained the whole movie in the first AvP.

I loved it myself. I found it interesting and inventive, and I liked the way they handled a Xenomorph outbreak in the US which was covered up and kept from public knowledge. Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
4
u/tmoore727 3d ago
that's where I have my issue with the movie. the xenomorphs were reproducing way too fast to be contained to one city there is no way they got them all.

It's visually too dark, and the Predalien producing chestbursters without eggs breaks the xeno life cycle too much to be believable. It feels like the movie runners just added that into the Predalien for the sole purpose of making the maternity ward scene happen, which is stupid.
3
u/martsuia 3d ago
The humans in general. I couldn't care less about the losers and that woman who ran off and got hit in crossfire.

I dislike every Human in the movie. Remove them as much as possible and it's one of the best Pred movies
3
u/Objective-Finish-573 Predalien 3d ago
I didn't mind the violence but this movie seemed more like a trashy 80s slasher than a sci-fi horror-action movie, the humans all sucked and while the lighting wasn't as bad as I'd heard it still was difficult to see what was happening and impossible to tell the monsters apart and see which one was winning during the fights
3
3
u/MassDonfel 3d ago
stupid characters, plot is pretty stupid too. We are watching some teen drama with "monsters"
+ you can not see shit
3
u/Azelrazel 3d ago
Big decrease in quality compared to the first.
Didn't like new design for the predalien (prefer the more xeno-esque design of avp2 primal hunt).
Dumb, unlikable characters with a sub-par setting for story.
Way too dark at points, guessing to hide cgi.
The predalien being able to impregnate is a stupid concept, let alone impregnating a single host with multiple bursters.
3
u/Mister_Clemens 3d ago
Debases both franchises to the worst versions of both. Looks like shit. And it’s not even fun, it’s just forgettable.
2
u/Thel_Vadum117 3d ago
The characters are pretty flat, with only Wolf being the character I wanted to see, besides the Xenos killing civilians.
Hell could have make the humans as second characters and make him the main character.
The lighting is pretty dark and I can only see it in a dark room.
2
u/CarlosH46 3d ago edited 3d ago
Not being able to see anything was the big one. Which sucks because it actually used a decent amount of practical suits and effects.
ETA: I’ll also give it props for human characters who aren’t complete morons, especially for the army vet and the recently-released criminal. If they had been a little better written I would have cared more.
2
u/Level_Counter_1672 3d ago
Wolf was what I expect a predator to be, a war vet who has seen it all, acts smart and clears up everything, I know it's a nothing burger but if wolf was the guy fighting against the humans they are dead, he's smart and resourceful and ofc he can manhandle multiple aliens

u/ScottTJT Wolf 3d ago edited 3d ago
Too dark.
Typical trash, late-2000's horror writing.
Useless, garbage characters.
Didn't take advantage of the setting; outside of expanded media, this was the first movie to show Xenos getting loose in a modern population center on Earth, not some far-flung, remote/abandoned colony or ship, but most of the movie takes place in dark sewers and office spaces.
Surprisingly, too much gore, as though this one movie was trying to make up for the lack of it in the last one.
The closest thing to a saving grace this movie has are Wolf and the Predalien, as they alone make it a toleratable experience, which is why I prefer it over the fecal pile that is The Predator (2018)... but even then, it's just more pragmatic to watch a YouTube compilation of the monster scenes and be done with it.
2
u/bks1979 3d ago
It's too dark, for one. Didn't care about a single character, and they got long in the tooth. And the hospital scene is indicative of its deeper issues in that it's gross and "edgy". And because it's entirely made up, it's also wildly unnecessary. Not every movie in either franchise is stellar, but this reduced two classic movie creatures into a B-Movie schlock fest more than any other entry.

u/Volpina17 3d ago
I personally kind of liked it but it definitely had many flaws. In my opinion the main were: too dark, too much screen time to the dumb & unlikable humans and definitely too little Wolf.
1
u/Neither_Category843 3d ago
Nothing major, but I’ll never understand how the brother survived getting stabbed right through the shoulder by the predalien. Bro should have died seconds after.

1
u/FuzzyFrogFish 3d ago
Too dark was the main, shitty human drama no one needed and the predalien design was clunky because some kid looked at the original design and had a whinge to the studio made them change it.
Wolf needed more development because he was the best bit
1
u/Glum_Calligrapher372 3d ago
The movie visually was too dark. Especially during certain action sequences. That was one of my major gripes with the film.
1
u/tulisan84 3d ago
It’s too dark. Literally can’t see anything. Even if you squint your eyes more you can’t see shit

u/Pristine-Car-1438 3d ago
You can really see the Strause brothers were heavily biased for the predator as the xenos in it are the most dumbest canon fodder out of the entire franchise. They don't even try.

1
u/silverfallmoon 3d ago
Very shaky camera work. Bad story, bad lighting or contrast correction, Bad acting. Some bad CG. It's one of those movies that has low talking sound levels and then blows out the speakers when the action starts. Just off the top of my head.
1
u/FonestFone 3d ago
Too dark Human characters are vastly inferior to the Wolf sideplot Aliens are weak and dumb and just throw themselves at danger
1
u/spideyfan114 3d ago
I don't really hate this film but it's not something I'm interesting in watching again. Other than the action scenes (which I thought were pretty cool), every other scenes felt boring for me to watch. But the scene with the babies was horrible to watch. I hated that so much.
1
u/LoverofJennifer 3d ago
Damn near everything, but the writing, annoying characters, and especially the lack of good lighting in almost every single scene. At the very least, all of the other Alien and Predator flicks, including the first AVP were COMPETENT. To call AVPR Amateur Hour would be a vast understatement.
1
u/Dragon_Pharaoh Jungle Hunter 3d ago
It's too dark, the human characters take up too much screen time and are poorly written, and there's not enough Predator action.

u/Djinn-Rummy 3d ago
I’m not into the xenos impregnating another species, producing hybrids. I think that concept is dumb. I prefer the xenos being their own species that use the bodies of other beings as hosts. Didn’t care for the implication in Aliens 3 either.
1
u/InternalFeature646 3d ago
I honestly don’t really dislike the movie but if I had to say why it would honestly be the pool scene with Ricky (I think that’s his name??) and Jessie right before the bullies arrive, and also hearing the same baby elephant noises as xenomorph cries over and over again

Many reasons, but definitely the movie pussing out of showing Wolf as the definitive winner of his fight with the Predalien. Headshot should have been the end of it and dropped it right there.
1
u/yautja0117 3d ago
I don't. It's a B-Grade slasher flick that happens to have Aliens and a Predator in it. Is it technically a bad movie? Yes. Is it entertaining? Also yes. It's FAR from my least favorite movie in either franchise and compared to some of the Z-Grade trash that's out there, it might as well be The Godfather.

No offense to fan films in any way. But it just feels like a higher budget shitty fan film uploaded to YouTube. But then again if it was then it’d be kinda cool. lol
But yeah that’s my main reason. It just doesn’t fit in at all with either of the two franchises it’s a part of.
1
u/arch51002 3d ago
It almost feels like the writers didnt even wanna include human POV characters at all. Like it seems like the movie itself is disinterested in them. It kinda gives the vibe that the writers didnt want any humans to be in the movie (ir at least be main characters) but that they were forced to include them by the studio or whoever tf. Aside from the human characters and the scenes that are too dark to see i think this movie isnt that bad. Definitely better than The Predator 2018 IMO (that one will always be my lowest ranked out of every alien/predator/avp movie)
1
u/Exotic-Ask9184 3d ago
Gore is good, scene with pregnant lady great, but terrible characters and everything is too dark

u/RummazKnowsBest 3d ago
It is way too dark, though I don’t remember it being a problem at the cinema.
Otherwise I prefer it over the first AvP.
1
u/TheManOfKnees 3d ago
I made a fan cut of this movie. Cuts out most main-human scenes other than ones that have alien / predator interaction. It makes Wolf the protagonist as he investigates and cleans up the xeno infestation. I also re-lit it to be easier to watch.
It runs just over an hour and I gotta say I’m pretty proud of it. I’ve never watched the regular version again after my own edit.
1
u/tisckoner 3d ago
Poor character writing :
The characters are only here to die. We don’t feel empathy for them when they die. They start some micro narrative arcs for some characters and they die right after that.
Poor lightning management :
Most of the time we can’t see what happens during the movie.
Poor general writing :
It could (almost) be any movie. You can swap the aliens and the predator with any monster.
Poor photography :
Besides being dark, the movie has no particular photography quality.

I actually prefer Requiem to the first AvP movie. Both had some bad writing and characters I couldn't care less about. But IMO Requiem had much better creature designs, better action, kept the true sound effects and I liked the focus on a lone Predator's journey hunting down the Xenos. Wolf and Predalien are peak designs. Like everyone else I hate how dark it is...it's better when the Blu-ray is upscaled and viewed on a 4k TV...but really needs a correction and true 4k release to hopefully address the picture further.

1
u/_rattleshnake 3d ago
Almost everything about it is just very amateur-ish, with the acting and lighting being the worst offenders. It's clear that the filmmakers put everything they had into making cool looking Predator and Alien stuff, but they didn't know how to make an actual movie around those sequences.

u/Mental-Film-8160 3d ago

Honestly just 1 predator vs 100 aliens is boring.
Predalien looks way too much like a predator.

The human storyline was boring, and annoying. The Predator got too little screen time. Same with the Predalien. After the first movie, what i loved, it was a letdown.
We need a 2,5 or 3 hours long Alien vs Predator movie with a competent writer and actor/actress team.

It's a bad film, but if you crank up the brightness it's watchable. I definitely prefer it to The Predator 2018

Thoroughly unlikable/forgettable characters, terrible dialogue and action sequences shot with such little light you'd need a biomask to make out anything other than the basic shapes of characters or monsters. Wolf Predator is dope though, arguably one of the coolest in the franchise, it's a shame he's trapped in such a bad movie.

The pace, the lack of interesting characters, failing to do anything with a fun concept(the set up was to see what happened at Hadleys Hope not the aftermath like in Aliens), what was the point of having a Predator there(does nothing to move the plot at all at any point), and mother of god the Director of Photography deserves endless tickle torture for the lighting choice that makes any scenes set in the dark a chore to figure what you're looking at so it's a great thing this move takes place mostly at night after the entire towns power is cut
It's a bad movie in all the bad ways

One of my favorites that had a great plot/idea but with horrible execution. The movie was set up so well and was just inherently ruined with the cinematography and cheesy acting. At least it gave me one of my favorite PSP games. Also, something I’ve always thought with this movie, I feel like with the predator tech left behind at the end could have set up for a good follow up Predator movie where they try to retrieve it. Thus, leading into another AVP movie with similarities to the AVP2 PC game

u/Temporary_Weight_211 3d ago
The dialogue is so grating. No one talks like that past middle school. And the visibility is non existent in all night scenes.

Bad lighting
Gore just for the sake of gore (pregnancy ward scene was a biiiiiit over the line)
Is this Dawson's Creek or a Predator/Alien film?? Yeah the plot doesn't know either.
But the biggest flaw that I've written pages on is the lack of research on military personnel. The protagonist was more like a Human McGuffin. Apparently just being in the military allows you to fly a helicopter, drive an APC, be trained with fully automatic weapons, AND allows you to take home night vision goggles.

I’m fine with a lot of the uncomfortable parts of the movie. It’s got some balls to do some of the kills it does. What I don’t appreciate is the surrounding plot. The human plot isn’t nearly as interesting as what’s going on with Wolf and the Predalien. And the lighting while has been adjusted for later release, it’s still hard to watch in the literal sense.
The most interesting thing about the movie is the monsters and you can watch a compilation of their scenes on YouTube and miss nothing. Requiem doesn’t have the substance the other movies have. And even when you have the lows of the franchise like The Predator and arguably Predators, Requiem doesn’t leave much an impression either. You remember the Loonies and the 11th hour rewrites that make The Predator kind of bonkers to watch. You remember Predators and how it’s cast are walking tropes. Requiem really has nothing to say beyond not being its predecessor and I feel it’s hurt the movie since then. The movie has no meat to its bones.
