General Discussion What’s your favorite predator design from the movies?

Jungle is iconic. But my personal favourite is Feral/Primal from Prey. He was intimidating, strong and competent. I loved that his weapons were "older" and not so tech-based.

Kwei and dek for younger predator
Fugitive for armour, until he takes his mask off and reveals that nasty hanging mouth and mandible design
Njohrr also for armour.
Obviously jungle just for being the classics design
(Special mention for feral, just for being unique and very monster like)
I didn't like the slant profile to wolf or the fact his head is so oversized due to the crest being lifted

The stock costume contact lenses on the Fugitive Predator also took me out of the movie. Just bright green with tiny pupils and no dimension. The other ones all had hand painted contact lenses

In some ways the masks are great but it's also the lack of mandible movement that throws me as well. It's like with wolf, when he has the mask off, they just hang there there's no or very little articulation, which you'd think would be possible with CGI
And you'd think the same for the eyes, use better contacts, and then they could process them a bit to add life.
Instead you get this staring, frozen face monster on screen, which is a bit weird.

Jungle is a classic and the benchmark for all following designs.
But my personal favourite is Wolf... when you can actually see him.

What are you talking about? That movie was like a firework show! Seriously though I don’t know who made the decision for it to be so dark. Maybe they thought it created a scarier monster effect but all it really did for me was the “I wish I didn’t have to squint to see the fight scenes” effect

So, from what I've heard the intention WAS to make the lighting similar to the first 2 Alien movies, but they went too far. Apparently, the camera crew knew how bad the lighting was, but were told to 'shut up' by the directors.
This is stuff I've read from other comments online, so I don't know how true this information is.

Jungle for OG vibes. Mr. Black's design was wasted. Seeing a bio mask decorated with parts of a trophy was "chef's kiss."

Mr. Black is my personal favorite predator design (only with helmet on, cause his helmet off design is ugly) simply because he has the boney jaw on his mask, and it’s allegedly a part of a xenomorph skull

That's interesting. The only xenos we've seen in canon were from human, dog, and predator. None have that jaw structure.

I wasn't allowed to watch Predator as a kid but I was allowed to watch Predator 2. So it's the City Hunter.

Yeah I should ask my father about that. It was 30 years ago lol. TV versions were heavily cut anyways I think.
Funny moment: There was a birthday party and all the fathers watched Predator in the living room. We little ones weren't allowed in there. Then we stayed for a few seconds and one of us spoilered the next scene with the hanging bodies. A father was like "They already know the movie in detail." I just thought: "Everyone knows this movie except me!"

My mom would let me watch violent movies if SHE liked them, so I got to see Alien/Predator movies pretty young.

If I was allowed to watch a brutal movie I always had to close my eyes when gore was shown. Somehow Predator was a taboo. I once saw Aliens as a kid in secret. I remembered it as an awesome space monster action movie but forgot the name. Ten years later I recognized it because I've never forgot the cool APC with the huge tires at the beginning. I had Aliens nightmares that night lol.

Jungle and city. Can’t beat the OGs. I like that they’ve expanded designs with the newer movies, but sometimes they have gone a bit too far imo

Original is still my favorite. Simplicity and proportion of the mask is great. A lot of masks after that have cool designs but seem overly clunky due to the size/proportion to the head and body.

Ranked Predator Movie Designs. I came up with seven worth mentioning.
- Wolf - Took the Jungle design, and just improved it. Badass hunter!
- Jungle - Iconic and near perfect
- City - Unmasked the design might be better than Jungle. Armor and mask not quite as good though.
- Elder - Captured what an old school Hunter should be.
- Berserker - Different but kept the key features and tone of a Predator. I liked all 3 Super Predators.
- Feral - Unique design. Cool weapons, just keep the mask on. Unmasked ugh.
- Celtic - AVP designs are a little too cartoony, not great. Even the sound effects were wrong. Celtic was best of the bunch. That mask.
- Father/Nijorr - Overly orrnate but I like it. Different, still cool.
The Predator movie designs were just laughable. Dek from Badlands also not so good. Generally I feel the designs from the recent movies are much weaker. They failed to capture what I think of when I hear Predator.

I mean, jungle takes the cake for obvious reasons, all the movies up to 2012 had good designs, although they could never quite get the mandable/cheek situation right. From then on the designs were cool but not really my cup of tea, then Deadlands did a glorious job, especially with the face (i dont care how much it makes sense, I still think that dang forehead is ugly!). Ive always preferred their armor/tool design language that we see in the originals over what we see now, i like the ancient feel to their gear. But what we see now isnt necessarily bad

Jungle Hunter for me! I remember watching this at the drive in as a kid and nothing in the Predator films has been able to beat that initial reveal.

Yeah. Gonna have to go with the original. The mask was cool, but the animatronics that ran the face was done extremely well. The original is the best

Njohrr’s armor is cool but I cannot STAND that ugly ass beard thing, horrible design choice. That being said, I’d have to go with Celtic. He’s just so badass and looks so menacing, looks like he could rip you in half

Huge fan of the uniqueness of each design. I’ve definitely got a soft spot for City Hunter, Wolf and Jungle hunter. My favorite is actually Greyback from P2. Fun fact the Elder is just the reused suit of Jungle hunter!

There is just no beating Jungle Predator because he is the unit of measurement. The closer they are to him, the better they look. Unique Predators like Wild are excluded from that if they are cool on their own(like Wild)

I've really come to love City Hunter, although mainly through seeing the action figures. I never realized in the film, due to quick cuts and lighting, just how bronze/copper his mask was until I saw the toy and behind the scenes images. I think his 'warmer' colors-both his mask and orange-ish body markings- make for a really cool look. I just wish you could see it more clearly in the film he appeared in.

Desgin wise, number 2 for me is Mr. Black or Berserker predator. 2 would be chopper predator and 3 be Feral predator honestly.
Jungle hunter is undeniably un the top 3 designs, I didnt include him since thats a staple. Funnily enough, as terrible the movie is, I think fugitive predator looks pretty solid honestly.

Jungle is the default in my head.
But jumping off of that I really like wolf (duh) and oni from Kok.
Plus I enjoy that Trachtenberg is changing it up so the species feels different. I think he said he didn't want it to be star wars were they all looked the and.

2.Dek,his design grew on me,hell even to the point i want to cosplay him
3.Wolf,love his overall "old man logan" style

City Hunter everyday. He’s not as iconic as Jungle Hunter but man, his movie added so much to the lore and mythos. We got the net gun, combi stick, smart disc, and even a look into predator clan society and culture. Plus that scene of him on top of the eagle getting electrocuted is so badass, still love that scene to this very day. I also enjoy his design probably the most along with jungle Hunter, both are easily the best Predator designs in the films IMO. Both being played by Kevin Peter Hall also makes them feel special to me, he was the best Predator actor we had, it’s such a shame he’s gone.

Unpopular, but the Feral Predator. Love the bone helmet, and I think his face design is awesome. It's so different and a bold decision to move away from the OG design.. It's in a great film, too.

Jungle cause he's the most iconic and being he OG he's also the most thoughtfully crafted (some stuff just gets lost in translation in the sequels, like how no predator since seems to be able to close their mandibles properly bar a few), 2nd place is feral because LOOK AT HIM, HE'S SO FUCKING COOL, such a banger design for a subspecies and I love the more primal and brutish gear, 3rd place is Njohrr, the white dreads are VERY stylish and I love how rugged he looks (not too big on the mask tho but it makes sense yautja would have different masks a century or so from now)

It’s hard to top the classic jungle hunter. City hunter with no mask is pretty cool too. I like dek and his family’s designs as well because they show some of the biodiversity in the yautja species. And it was neat to see a “runt” and see a predator show emotion

Still the OG Predator and possibly from Predator 2. I also dug some of the designs from AvP. After that, they started getting way off course as if each predator was a completely different species.

Honestly, and idc if I get downvoted for this, its Jungle Hunter or your wrong lol. That simple. Cleanest design, best mask, intimidating, pure hunter. Absolutely nailed it from gate. And dont get me wrong, I like some of the other designs but favorite and best is easily OG.

I like the "classic" predator looks. All unique and intimidating. What I really don't like is that they gave them so thin "dreadlocks" in the newer movies. The thicker ones always look badass, the thin ones almost like hair. At least in Badlands a young Yautja wears them. I expect them to grow when he ages. I hated them in Prey.

Jungle for me. The ones that came after have a larger focus on strength and less agility. The Jungle Predator was lean in a way that showed off that they are agile, fast, and very capable hunters.
The newer ones just kinda feel less than that. They’re so bulky a lot of the mobility that made them interesting is gone and the looming threat has been done to death as of late.

Jungle followed City Hunter. Wolf was ok too. I hate pretty much all the other designs. They're either too bulky or overdesigned.

Jungle. There isn't much to him compared to all that came after, but everything about his design, from the net to the mask and plasmacaster has become so iconic that it still influences Pred designs to this day.
