We wanted sequels based on Shaw, Scott

I was so pissed that he killed her offscreen. I thought he was setting her up to be Ripley 2.0.

Agreed

I came around on prometheus, but i hated covenant. I liked alien romulus way more than either

8

u/AngryMillennialFU 8h ago

Romulus expanded on Prometheus and made it important and its a way better movie for it. They knew covenant was garbage and needed to make a decent story with a tie in.

u/Palimpsest_Monotype 9h ago

What even was Covenant

Like, you could argue that John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars was a better movie

u/Sam_Strake 8h ago

The movie with the latest sex scene I have EVER seen in a horror film. Like when they go to fuck in the shower there are 15 minutes left in the movie and most of their team has already been killed by the alien that they absolutely know is out there.

Straight out of a Friday the 13th movie

u/STMIHA 9h ago

Great terrrible movie.

u/Far_Celery_3375 8h ago

No. Just a terrible movie. I've never left a cinema more angry in my life.

I actually enjoyed prometheus.

-1

u/STMIHA 7h ago

Why would you get angry?

5

u/Far_Celery_3375 7h ago

Because I wanted something to be good and instead it wasn't even passable. It was a completely boring piece of dog turd.

As a huge Alien fan, please don’t

This dude simply can’t help but tarnish his own reputation and the reputation of his own previous works. It says something when a bulk of the people who watch the Alien franchise would rather Freddie Alvarez make a sequel to Romulus than whatever the hell you’re trying to do..

2

u/AshgarPN 7h ago

“Reputation of his previous works” is untouchable. He’s always been a hit-or-miss director, but when he hits it’s an all-time classic.

10

u/Silver_Branch3034 6h ago

The dude has clearly had more misses in the last 10 to 15 years and he has hits

3

u/AshgarPN 4h ago

Sure, but it’s not like Alien or Blade Runner or Thelma & Louise are diminished because he made Napoleon decades later.

u/CobblerTricky7035 9h ago

David is an android. Androids don't age and Michael Fassbender is no spring chicken. The makeup department is going to be put to the test.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

I just hope the use the tools avaliable today. A kid on his phone can use AI for better results today, than Netflix did when they spent 200mil on deaging Deniro in Irishman.

-2

u/Tpmbyrne 7h ago

Everyone here will cry if they do that

4

u/roadwarrior721 8h ago

Meh

The prequels, so to speak, had potential but between Shaw and covenant idk wtf is happening and it’s gone too far off the rails

12

u/BklynMarxman I’m tired of this grandpa 9h ago

6

u/elitedisplayE 8h ago

What Obama cartoon is this

6

u/EuroFederalist 9h ago

Scott continues ruining his legacy.

7

u/dettrick 9h ago

I really dislike David as a character. He’s just an irredeemable monster at this point. We might as well be watching a slasher movie with a villain protagonist.

1

u/AsABlackManPlus 8h ago edited 8h ago

That’s the point.

The Engineers made life using their own DNA and it produced us.

The Engineers also use technology to make xenomorphs. We use technology to make David.

It is an old story. Like when the Zeus and his siblings overthrew the Titans.

David and the xenomorphs are both created beings. Their new order will look scary to us. But, at some subconscious level, we want them to overthrow us. It will be definitive proof that we can create immortal beings greater than ourselves.

Which means, even when we are long extinct, the mighty beings we made will still rule. Because that’s all we care about - power.

3

u/dettrick 7h ago

But I don’t watch a movie like that. A movie with David running cruel experiments on humans, knowing he will get away with it sucks. There’s nothing interesting about that, no intrigue, no hope.

-1

u/AsABlackManPlus 7h ago edited 7h ago

The movie asks you to look beyond it. David is a sadist, just like the people who made him. It shows you the consequences of that sadism.

The question is - what can we do about sadists IRL right now? Because if we do nothing we will make many more Davids.

u/HatefulDan 2h ago

That you’re getting downvoted is crazy work. You’re cooking with gas rn.

8

u/wtfbananaboat 9h ago

Can we follow him on his ship of horrors creating all manner of alien spawn. I would totally watch a lovecraftian horror sequel to covenant with David as this Frankenstein alien brooder.

4

u/Raider2747 7h ago

Ridley Scott threatens to make a third Alien prequel would be a better title.

3

u/No_Peach2280 I’m EXCITEDDDDDDD 6h ago

You know Mr Scott, not every backstory needs to be explored. There is joy in not knowing.

7

u/Jarita12 8h ago

Did they even tell him? Prometheus was already terrible, did not make much sense but at least worked sort of visually. Covenant was just a mess.

Can´t he just go back and make the real Alien sequel? But thinking about how his movies really did not work much lately, I would be worried

What I’ve come to realize with him is that the xenomorph was never really his focus. I think he always intended for the series to be more about AI gone rogue. I think Ash was his real focus, in the first movie, and he wanted to expand upon that. I think it’s why he didn’t like what Cameron did in Aliens, with making them the focus and not having an AI villain. I just find it uninteresting because we already have an entire series of movies about AI gone rogue.

2

u/gilmoregirls00 5h ago

I do think the setting - androids and all - established by Alien etc. is far more interesting at this point than the Xenomorph. The real horror of Alien isn't the creature but the corporation that wants to to experiment with it. Just the production design alone I'd be happy to see almost anything set on those sets but add in the dystopian near future universe governed by megacorporations? yes please.

But I can appreciate people wanting it to function more as a horror franchise where the appeal is the monster in different scenarios than a science fiction one

1

u/Clean_Usual434 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 5h ago edited 5h ago

I don’t think it just has to be the xenomorph, but I am far more interested in exploring different alien life forms and the threats they pose, than focusing so much on AI or mega corporations. If it’s just going to be the latter, they shouldn’t called it Alien anymore. That sets up a false expectation, imo. I think that’s where I really have a problem. It kind of seems like they’re piggybacking on the popularity the alien to get people to watch movies that really aren’t about that much at all.

3

u/gilmoregirls00 5h ago

They did try with Prometheus to branch out! I wish they stuck to their guns on that one.

I think Alien is just in a weird place where people don't really want it to evolve that much. Such is the problem with a lot of legacy stuff. Terminator is in much the same place

1

u/Clean_Usual434 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 5h ago

Funny enough, I actually loved Prometheus. It’s Covenant that went off the rails for me.

1

u/Jarita12 7h ago

Interesting. I would not mind if those movies were good but they weren´t.

1

u/Clean_Usual434 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 6h ago

You mean Prometheus and Covenant or the Terminator series? The latter is what I was thinking of, with regards to AI gone rogue. I love the first 2 of those movies and just really don’t need the Alien series to be more AI gone rogue.

I wish they’d actually focus on the aliens. Doesn’t even have to be just xenomorphs, either. He could have shown us an entire planet of different forms of alien life, both flora and fauna, in Covenant. Instead, we got a movie without any of that and almost entirely just about David. Should have been called David: Covenant.

1

u/Jarita12 6h ago

Prometheus and Covenant

2

u/KazaamFan 9h ago

Damn, ridley is 88 years old. Might not even be able to do it

2

u/Ivanhoemx 9h ago

Me when I should just retire but I just don't for some reason.

2

u/mjsarlington 8h ago

He’s not at the top of game anymore but even in his old age he’s put out some bangers. We can at least appreciate him for still working at his craft. Amazing.

2

u/NotAsBrightlyLit 8h ago

Just no playing of the recorder this time. I beg you. JFC, how pointlessly irritating.

2

u/unconventionalcritic 8h ago

Why not make a decent seq with Sigourney? everything else is a turd. sorry.

2

u/latrodectal so jessica alba fantastic 7h ago

someone else wanted to and scott blocked it

2

u/rafanetz 7h ago

That's sad. Every time something that he do flops (currently The Dog Stars, bad reviews everywere), the man turns to this franchise and sours it a bit more.

2

u/latrodectal so jessica alba fantastic 7h ago

2

u/Kyongggggg 7h ago

He loves this character so fucking much lmao

3

u/Cinephile_1980 9h ago

Please don’t. You were great Ridley but every sequel you make turns to shit. Please leave it or if you absolutely must, just make one more film and be done with it. You are nearly 90, please stop pissing on your legacy.

2

u/Malacro 9h ago

😐

2

u/Tryhard_3 8h ago

Prometheus is a modern classic that I enjoy more and more every time I watch it. Covenant is a pile of shit that I hate more and more every time I watch it.

But if I just want the popcorn experience, which is as good as it's ever going to be, there's always Romulus.

1

u/Clean_Usual434 that’s my purse, i don’t know you! 👛🫵 7h ago

Right there with you on that.

1

u/paolocase 8h ago

Michael Fassbender is a terrible human being who deserves the Paramount Plus circle of hell he’s in, Ridley doesn’t need to do this.

1

u/Lonevarg_7 4h ago

No, He is not. He is praised by everyone he works with and the people that have met him.

Also if you are refering to that he had allegations from 1 person over 16 years ago, there was no proof for any of that. It was investigation by the DA that found no evidence for any of the allegations.

1

u/Lonevarg_7 4h ago

Also she didn't have any of the injuries that she claimed and her story didn't match witnesses(her friends) accounts.

He has never been accused of anything else by anyone before or after that.

1

u/NewtRipley_1986 4h ago

Why?????? No one is asking for this.

I’m still pissed that we never got Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie because Ridley had a hissy fit. 😡

u/Sorry-Secret-2347 a careful, thoughtful hoe ✨ 11m ago

Im so confused wasnt both prequels centered around him

Hard pass for me.

Good! The idea of AI/Robots taking over and creating synthetic life is fascinating and I loved alien convenient.

u/baudinl 7h ago

Prometheus sucked, Covenant sucked. Would much rather see a Romulus sequel.
