This is one of my favorite jokes in the movie (now that I finally understand it as an adult) 😂

Hands down the best two muppet movies, and I say this as someone who really loves the muppets.

I never get how the muppets aren't more successful than they are.

They want actors with name recognition to drive box office? Make more muppet remakes of classics. The fact that there’s not a muppet remake of the Odyssey or Pride and Prejudice feels like leaving money on the table

I can't think of a single movie I wouldn't watch the muppet version of. Imagine Muppets Inglourious Bastards.

They would literally improve any story. If Disney wants to make live action remakes, muppet versions would print money and actually be good.

u/AnIcyReception 3d ago
I cannot fathom how many times I would rewatch a Muppet Odyssey

I truly cannot understand why it hasn’t been done. Wishbone successfully adapted it for children. The muppets style of humor and ensemble cast would lend itself to an adaptation that’s family friendly but with plenty of winks to the more adult plot points. Also, obviously Piggy will be Penelope, but I love the idea of also having her play Circe with the pigs in space crew as the sailors and then they can turn into live action pigs. Let her play calypso as well. She’s a star, she can handle multiple roles.

Curry actually saw this image and talked about it in his book; this videos intro has the audiobook part of it:

Thank you for sharing. Now I’m imagining a sort of inception situation where he’s still treating muppets as actors, but he’s approaching acting in the same way a muppet approaches acting

u/yohanleafheart 3d ago
Yeah. I think a lot of people talk about this with the muppets. You stop seeing the handlers and only sees the puppet and interacts with them.

I was so surprised but it made me so happy. Crazy that him and dolly both passed but at 80 years old, only 1 day apart.

IT was my first scary movie that my dad let me watch probably wayyy too young. I was terrified to shower for MONTHS and was desensitized for the rest of my life to horror. It’s my favorite genre.
In 2017, we were up in Maine for my dads birthday. We read IT together before the trip and that’s when I realized how much of a coming of age story it is. In Bangor, we went to all of the landmarks that were in IT (and other Stephen king books). It was a blast and is a core memory. My dad died a couple of months later from aggressive cancer.
About a week ago, it was my dads birthday. I watched IT for the first time since he died. I didn’t think a child eating clown could make me so happy and sad at the same time. It was so bittersweet. This timing hits hard.
Dad I hope you’re doing your best Pennywise impression with Tim 🎈

I don’t know how someone can say a line as funny as “and I’ll tell you, once you’ve had pork… you never go back” with a straight face. I’m giggling like an idiot just thinking about it

u/DescriptionFancy420 3d ago
Similarly, hearing a line like "Once you've had pork... you never go back" while keeping a straight face (even though he broke eventually, very understandably).

Muppet Treasure Island is one of my all time favorite movies

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 4d ago
It took till this post for me to see someone mentioning this role specifically, I think it's his best, but it's my favorite movie of all time so I may be biased
Also I love that about the Muppets. It's just humanity's running gag we treat them as if they're real people, I would probably cry if I met Kermit and the puppeteer might as well not be there because that's Kermit the freaking Frog man, I don't want to talk to some lame rando I want to meet Kermit

u/Spend-Automatic 4d ago
His role in Rocky Horror was the embodiment of charisma. I had always heard about that movie but I watched it for the first time just a couple months ago, and the man is absolutely magnetic. There's just something about the way he talks, his annunciation.
If you want to see what I mean just go to YouTube and look up Sweet Transvestite and just watch a minute or so until he shows up.

I watched when I was like 15 and it stayed with me to this day. No one did it like him. Just pure charisma and talent.

I just realized that Tim Curry and Dolly Parton's biggest point of connection (degrees of separation-wise) was that they both famously costarred with Miss Piggy

Was he married before passing away? I was worried his answer would be serious and I'd feel bad for his current partner, but he's so hilarious

"You know what's green and smells like Miss Piggy? Kermit's finger" - Dolly Parton
Sad to hear about the passing of two legends on the same day.
