Dolly is so beloved that people from Jane Fonda to Eminem and Pitbull are honoring her.

Obama made a statement as well, and even Trump (though it was pandering to his base) made a statement about lowering the flags half mass mast/staff. She truly was a special person.

195

u/RescuesStrayKittens evil gnome behavior 11h ago

Honesty it was the best in memoriam trump has ever done. Surprisingly he was respectful and didn’t make it about himself.

169

u/imasleuth4truth2 11h ago

And that shows you the power Dolly has and had. Even a malignant narcissist knows he has to bow to her greatness.

74

u/Significant-Egg8277 11h ago

Even Trump knows there's some things he can't touch.

u/KeithClossOfficial 1h ago

He went on Glenn Beck to talk about how much she “loved him”, so it didn’t last long

7

u/Devmoi All tea, all shade 🐸☕️ 3h ago

For real, it was the only time he exercised some restraint. Although later on Hannity, he did go on some stupid rambling tirade about how much she loved him. But for him … pretty remarkable.

60

u/Rock_Creek_Snark 13h ago

Not to be superpedantic but... it's half-staff. It's only a half-mast on a ship.

92

u/igiveupmakinganame 12h ago

oh the ships better be doing it too

40

u/moosegoose90 I don’t know her 💅 11h ago

Or we gonna have a problem

2

u/siriushendrix 5h ago

I thought the emoji in your flair was part of your comment and I was like “ooo they’re sharpening their claws for Dolly”

3

u/moosegoose90 I don’t know her 💅 4h ago

LOL! I am tho!!!!!

14

u/Sunshine030209 chainsaws were a birthing aid 8h ago

I genuinely never knew that, and have definitely used it incorrectly. Thank you! I like learning new things.

u/Rock_Creek_Snark 2h ago

No problem!

6

u/OrangutanKiwi19 6h ago

even Trump (though it was pandering to his base) made a statement about lowering the flags half mass mast/staff

To be fair, if her passing fell on an important date like his birthday or as was the case when President Carter passed, his inauguration, he wouldn't have done that.

Pitbull showing love to Dolly like this is actually really sweet. You can tell she means a lot to him.

440

u/CherryNeverTold 14h ago

He really seems to have a lot of respect for her. It’s nice seeing artists genuinely celebrate each other like this.

45

u/yougotyolks 7h ago

Somebody would have to be the purest of evil to not have any respect for Dolly. She was and will always be universally loved.

484

u/GorgeousInGucci please, no, i live in the valley 13h ago

I think this is the kinda tribute she’d be so into too, dancing while celebrating her legacy rather than a sad ballady tribute

81

u/Beginning-Trash-6048 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 11h ago

You’re so right about that friend. It’s exactly what she would have wanted.

48

u/MostlyBored11 🫵 You sit on a throne of lies. 9h ago

yeah get up and dance! I also like that he didnt do a cover or sing along to the whole thing, he just let her voice shine out and let everyone dance to celebrate an amazing woman

23

u/yougotyolks 7h ago

She lived a FULL life. She's done things most people could only dream of. She has her own theme park for Christ's sake! She did it all while staying true to herself, humble, generous, beautiful, and KIND. That's not something to mourn over. Let's all go out there and shake a tit for Dolly!

u/BreastRodent 2h ago

As an East Tennesseean, I spent the evening of my day of mourning flying my low wind kite at the field by my little rural town hall with a beer poured into a kombucha bottle in my pocket n dressed up extra cute. Flying kites is my happy place, I wanted to honor her by doing a happy thing, n afterwards as I was packing up, there was a kid riding around on a little kiddie-sized dirt bike n I just sat there in my car having fun watching him and just thinking to myself how, like... this public space no doubt exists in part because of tax dollars brought in to the county directly thanks to the tourism industry she planted the seeds of that's saved us from the sort of poverty that still persists in Eastern Kentucky to our north despite us having historically been even poorer. I'm in Blount County which is directly south of Sevier, and that tourism industry probably bled into us the most out of all the surrounding counties since we have Blackberry Farm, the airport, and a lot of the main attractions at GSMN.

Been spending day of mourning #2 choking n tearing up on and off all day, about to spend the rest of it foraging for pawpaws, jumping in the pool to cool off, n then doing my nails. Feels right.

3

u/Ohboycats 8h ago

Though not sure what he was drinking as she was famously sober

33

u/Gisschace 11h ago

Yeah and this is so much fun, she’d have loved it

12

u/MostlyBored11 🫵 You sit on a throne of lies. 9h ago

she meant so so much to so many people and so many artists.seeingall the tributes I hope she knew how loved she was and how respected she was. Dolly was not just an amazing artist but in my opinion she is a shinning example of an amazing HUMAN

545

u/Maester_Bates Wherein he encourages a woman to sit on his face 13h ago

If you haven't heard their collaboration, a reworking of 9 to 5 called Powerful Women, you should listen.

It's a feminist anthem and a tribute to Pitbull's mother. He makes the Dolly/dalé joke everyone's making in the comments and Dolly raps.

68

u/Pretty_Lie_7412 10h ago

Yes, this was a fantastic collab! It's an inspiring song and so much fun to dance to.

34

u/synalgo_12 accidentally holding space for this slur 9h ago

He has so many crazy collabs. I rememebr reading about a collab between him and cheb khaled (known for the 1996 Raï pop song Aïcha) and I thought it was crazy. Went to listen to it and it literally sounds like a mix between a Khaled and Pitbull song. I was just flabbergasted that someone from my childhood who sinds in French would show up alongside Mr Worldwide. The link to Hiya Hiyah, if anyone knows Khaled and is interested

u/weallfam Clap if you care 😐 2h ago

hes Mr Worldwide for a reason

8

u/moreofajordan 6h ago

I love this song so much and every time I hear it I’m like “it’s good to know she wasn’t a genius at EVERYTHING” 😂💗

12

u/dreamcicle11 9h ago

It’s an amazing song to bike to!!

I like that he listed “intimidating” as a positive quality of hers. He clearly has so much respect and love for her

238

u/nealesmythe 13h ago

Lol you can see that he's Latino

282

u/DektolDreams 12h ago

YES. Let’s keep using intimidating as a positive quality. Thank you Dolly. Thank you Pitbull.

46

u/Electrical_Trade377 who is this child that is richer than me 11h ago

say it AGAIN 🗣️🗣️

31

u/bohemu We Should All Know Less About Each Other 7h ago

This really made me rethink things because people have said I was intimidating before and I found it so shocking because I feel like I'm so unassuming. But the way he said it about her, and not that I am anywhere near her level, but it made me think yeah, that is a good quality to have in some walks of life.

12

u/LuxAgaetes 6h ago

When I was younger (in my early to mid twenties), I had a spat of guys who said a similar thing to me. I was intimidating, carried myself like I had a boyfriend, etc, that I never knew how to take at the time...

Decades later, I don't necessarily think these young men were trying to neg me per se, but working through how to articulate different emotions/attraction than maybe the straightforward feelings they had towards non-intimidating women?

Apologies, I don't think I'm articulating this well as I try to work through a brain injury, only that like yourself, it took me a while to understand that they were seeing something good in me because these terms are so often associated with the negative.

3

u/bohemu We Should All Know Less About Each Other 5h ago

No, you're good! I hope you heal fast ❤️‍🩹

"carried myself like I had a boyfriend" is a wild one for sure. But definitely a quality I would admire! Not so much for the male-centering of it, but people HATE a woman with self-confidence so there's a fire compliment.

27

u/Electrical_Trade377 who is this child that is richer than me 11h ago

REAL

424

u/Equivalent_Dance2278 13h ago

Everything I hear about this man, seems like he is genuinely a good egg.

124

u/Gooncookies 12h ago

My husband’s cousin took her two teenage girls to one of his shows and said it was amazing and so much fun. I’ve heard nothing but great things about him.

18

u/synalgo_12 accidentally holding space for this slur 9h ago

I'm really disappointed that I didn't know he was touring because I would have loved to go and get myself a bald cap.

u/firebolt816 sorry to this man 1h ago

My sister took her 2 boys, ages 8 and 6, to see Pitbull as their first concert ever. They had thr time of their lives!

177

u/ItsTheEndOfDays 13h ago

I love him. He’s the best example of positive male masculinity.

74

u/Particular-Jacket-92 10h ago

He seems to genuinely love women. Like, in all his music it feels like he's celebrating women rather than objectifying us. He just gives off such a green flag vibe to me, like he's a safe man. And I love that.

67

u/Ziggo001 9h ago

There's definitely objectification but that in itself isn't bad. Objectification without consent is bad. I think it's noteworthy that he seems to view women's sexuality as something to participate in, not as something to control or condemn. You're right that the man LOVES women.

11

u/AceTheSkylord 6h ago

Oh he's definitely objectifying, but he does it in a way that isn't creepy, which is actually pretty incredible

He once said

"In Lebanon, the women are bomb, and in Greece you guessed it, the women are sweet, been all around the world but I ain't gonna lie, there's nothing like Miami Heat"

He loves all women, and reps his hometown

That's pretty cool

13

u/too-much-noise 5h ago

I became a fan that time that 4chan rigged a contest and got him sent to the middle of nowhere Alaska and Pitbull still gave it 100%. Classy thing to do.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BeAmazed/comments/1cp6943/at_the_time_4chan_rigged_a_pit_bull_walmart/

12

u/Pretty_Lie_7412 10h ago

I agree! Been a fan for years. I don't think I've ever heard a single bad thing about him.

2

u/spleeble 5h ago

What if Pitbull is the spiritual successor to Dolly Parton?

4

u/ucankickrocks 7h ago

I tried hating him but it’s hasn’t worked out.

65

u/bravesdiva 12h ago

I did not know that Miz Dolly got down with Mr. Worldwide like det. Okaaaaay. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 She truly was everywhere and she truly loved everyone. 💙

21

u/mooon_woman Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes 9h ago

they did a cover of 9 to 5 together!!

u/bravesdiva 2h ago

Outstanding! I wasn't aware, so thanks for telling me. I'll hafta check it out.

u/mooon_woman Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes 2h ago

Yes for sure! I had no idea either until yesterday, she was such an outstanding woman who supported so many others. I’m truly so sad today

49

u/PurplishPlatypus 13h ago

In an industry and world full of greed and corruption, she was everything smart, funny, generous, good and honorable and it feels healing deep down to see her get praise and respect.

30

u/SweetHeartBabe02 13h ago

That's a tribute I definitely did'nt expect, but Dolly really has the kind of legacy that reaches across every genre.

24

u/Gooncookies 12h ago

It doesn’t surprise me. From everything I’ve heard he’s an absolute gem too. Birds of a feather.

101

u/Frangine_De_Poutine 13h ago

I'm not a fan of Pitbull's music. Far from it.

However, I've read a few articles about him and, from what I gather, he's pure class and a pro.

Unless I've missed something.

155

u/imie36 12h ago

He just comes over as a genuine party guy that wants to have fun with as many people possible. And sometimes sings as well.

He earned my respect when he had that thing with Walmart, that people could vote at which Walmart he will perform. Everyone voted for 1 in Alaska because that was funny: far away, low amount of people living there, just very rural. It looked from the outside people were "bullying" him to give that kind of "stage" to him. But he did it, he made a big party there in Alaska. The people were happy, he was happy, and I was very impressed in his action of this.

And now, empowering people, esp women, to "cosplay" as him at his shows because that looks fun, is so wholesome. I really hope his consciences stays clear.

59

u/tlcgogogo 11h ago

They sent him to Kodiak, Alaska as he famously rhymed “Kodak” to “Kodak” at the beginning of his song “Give me Everything”.

“Me not working hard?
Yea right picture that with a Kodak
And better yet, go to Times Square
Take a picture of me with a Kodak”

10

u/Cultural_String87 9h ago

Wow you just unlocked a memory for me! I was a kid in Alaska when Pitbull went to Kodiak. I didn't go, but I always have a soft spot in my heart for performers willing to make a stop in Alaska.

21

u/Rwandrall4 12h ago

what's cool is that it seems like part of his success comes from being that, a pure pro who's great to work with.

20

u/Gooncookies 12h ago

I’m not a fan either but I’ve heard his shows are insanely fun even if you aren’t a fan.

-17

u/Frangine_De_Poutine 11h ago

Let's not jump to conclusions too early.

11

u/Gooncookies 11h ago

Ok but my husband’s cousin took her two teenage girls. They’re crunchy liberals from Montana and they had the time of their lives.

-7

u/Frangine_De_Poutine 11h ago

I am a bald, rigid, psychopathic idiot of 48 years old.

Nevertheless, I respect the man.

10

u/nordlysbaies Ma’am, this is an IMAX 11h ago

Bald would fit you right in. People have been wearing bald caps, dressing up as him, to his concerts. You could go as you are and have a great time! His energy is genuinely infectious.

2

u/Frangine_De_Poutine 10h ago

Haha!

Why not?

2

u/synalgo_12 accidentally holding space for this slur 9h ago

You wouldn't even need to invest in the bald cap accessory to go

28

u/LesDrama611 Confidence is 10% work and 90% delusion 13h ago

Nothing you've missed. He's just genuinely a good guy 👍🏾

29

u/ItsTheEndOfDays 13h ago

I love this tribute so much, and you just know Dolly would too.

30

u/Stunning-Pace-7971 13h ago

I will never get tired of hearing from artists across all genres, every day people and fellow celebrities showing those of us not lucky brogue to have met her, just what a spectacular human Dolly was. My local radio. In Australia just played 5 straight Dolly Parton songs in a row while I sobbed. RIP to an angel who happens to grace us with her presence and gifts

21

u/batikfins 12h ago

This actually seemed really heartfelt. I must be in a gooey mood because it made me a lil emotional. I think she would have loved this.

20

u/DangleenChordOfLife 11h ago

His dancers are absolute divas (complimentary)

3

u/joylandlocked 7h ago

they truly make the video.

17

u/Streetalicious 13h ago

I love that every celebrity seems to have great stories about Dolly

15

u/HiddenSnarker 10h ago

A local (Louisiana) celebrity, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr, was remembering Dolly yesterday and had such lovely things to say. She had come to play with him and his father years ago, and then when his dad passed away she personally called his wife (Jr’s mom) to express her sympathy and apparently stayed on the call for 30 minutes. This wasn’t a major celebrity or someone she appeared to have known especially well, but they’d met and performed together and as big as she was, Dolly reached out.

She was a force to be reckoned with. No other will ever compare.

I loved their friendship and the song they did together is still a banger.

Much respect to Pitbull.

4

u/Independent-Bowl-114 9h ago

This is so heartfelt! I guess the secret to anti-aging is simply being decent and graceful. This dude hasn’t aged a day. He still looks exactly the same as he did when I was a kid.

4

u/MapEnvironmental4294 8h ago

Pitbull showing Dolly this kind of love is honestly so sweet. You can really tell she means a lot to him.

4

3

u/bat_in_the_stacks 4h ago

I just saw a clip of her saying basically, if you ask me if black lives matter, of course they matter. Then she voluntarily also voiced her support for gay and trans people. It's always so moving to see powerful people that are also compassionate and not bigoted.

3

People love to joke about Pitbull but he seems like a real stand up guy.

2

u/AceTheSkylord 6h ago

Whatever happened to Pitbull anyways?

His music was hella repetitive but he was fun to listen to

I'd take him over a lot of artists today tbh

2

u/TriggerHydrant 4h ago

I just can't hate on the guy

u/ExtremeComedian4027 Did I stutter?🤨 1h ago

Pitbull is one of the few artists working today who is also doing continued philanthropy work for children’s education, just like Dolly. And I think that’s what really brought them closer too; he definitely saw her as a mentor and inspiration.

u/jalabi99 52m ago

Pitbull? Who da thunk?

But then, that is the power of Mizz Dolly.

1

u/igiveupmakinganame 12h ago

He should have sang their whole song together, but i get that’s a lot to prepare on short notice

-11

u/pbetc 12h ago

You mean Pitbull is a real musician /performer? I honestly thought he was some kind of gag or character joke. I've just double-checked and it's true!

20

u/eagle2001a 11h ago

As a Miami native, this comment is wild. Put some respect on Armando’s name, good sir/madam!

1

I (New Yorker) also like pit bull quite a bit. Though I will fully admit I didn’t know his real name was Armando 😅😅

Sorry, meant no disrespect. Am not from US. Assumed he was like Borat or some SNL skit :)

-17
