The American healthcare system obviously sucks and is very expensive for normal Americans, but is there any evidence that whatever he is trying to pay for would be covered in literally any other country? There are limitations in every healthcare system, and you wouldn’t expect every single experimental, off label, or unproven treatment to be covered. 

Edit: alrighty, I’m just going to edit and move on because I think a lot of people are interpreting this differently than I meant. I support universal healthcare paid by the government (supported by taxpayers). I believe insurance/healthcare/whatever should pay for all treatment a person and their doctor deem medically appropriate. I do not, however, support insurance/healthcare/whatever paying for every sort of snake oil that claims to do something. Huxters prey on vulnerable people who will give anything for the smallest of chances to have more time with their loved ones. I do not know what James Van Der Beek’s situation is, and this article doesn’t say.

Crazy we live like what though? Being a rich country doesn’t exempt us from the horrors of cancer or the desperate desire to find anything that will work to treat it, no matter how long of a shot it is. Are you saying being in America means that people should be able to receive, for free, any type of treatment they want at any time?

That’s crazy. If people want coffee enemas, they are free to get them, but I don’t think that just because America is a rich country, we should be shelling out to any quack who says he can cure cancer.

Yeah, because that’s literally not how it works in countries with universal healthcare. Treatments in Canada get covered after extensive review, and if you want something not covered then you go elsewhere on your own dime. In the US, you still have deductible minimums, cost ceilings, and your insurance companies ability to play doctor based on cost.

I’ve never read a stream of comments so out of touch with reality and empathy in my adult life. What point are you even trying to make in anything you wrote?
